LOF was produced by treating the organic waste with Urine-Single Orifice Diffuser (USOD), Urine-Coarse Bubble Diffuser (UCBD), Urine-Fine Bubble Diffuser (UFBD), Slurry-Single Orifice Diffuser (SSOD), Slurry-Coarse Bubble Diffuser (SCBD), and Slurry-Fine Bubble Diffuser (SFBD) in a bioreactor equipped with a water pump and an external aerator unit. The pump circulated and agitated the biomass at a discharge of 10 L/min. Meanwhile, the external aerator unit pumped air into the bioreactor, which the biomass absorbed at a discharge of 45 L/min. The discharge of biomass and water also caused agitation of the fermented biomass. Several variables were observed during the fermentation process, including temperature, acidity (pH), total dissolved solids (TDS), C/N ratio, electrical conductivity (EC), biological oxygen demand (BOD), microbial population, cation exchange capacity (CEC), and other chemical properties. LOF produced had a pH, temperature, total organic matter content, EC, TDS, BOD, microbial population, and CEC values of 6.3–6.8, 28.0–37.0°C, 20.77–22.46%, 54630–62369.24 µmS, 7543–11700 ppm, 1.2–2.6 mg/L, 3.2–7.5 log CFU, 12.3–14.1, and 29.98 me/100 g, respectively. The macro and micro nutrient contents of bio-urine were 12.72–12.96%, and 3.09–3.25%. Meanwhile, those of the bio-slurry were 12.35–12.99% and 2.39–2.72%. These characteristics of LOF were in accordance with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI).

This has led to a diversification of electricity sources including environmentally friendly energy sources such as solar energy. Off-grid PV systems have gained some traction due to their cost-effectiveness for rural communities. However, the intermittent nature of solar is the main challenge to developing the off-grid PV system. Moreover, the high capital cost of PV systems as well as the storage batteries becomes the main concern for all PV users. Thus, this study aims to optimize the size of the PV system and battery simultaneously and design a cost-effective off-grid photovoltaic system considering various aspects such as battery power, solar irradiance, and PV panel selection while ensuring system reliability. The proposed system was optimized using improved Differential Evolution (DE) and its effectiveness was tested by comparing the results with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Genetic Algorithm (GA). The Improved DE algorithm provides the highest average cost savings compared to other algorithms, which is $500 per year. It is recommended that this method is very useful in the optimization of off-grid PV systems, considering other uncertainties that affect PV system performance.\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000

Typhoid fever is a neglected re-emerging infectious disease that is transmitted through fecal oral route. Nevertheless, non-typhoidal Salmonella outbreak has been increasing globally with large number of cases involving immunocompromised individuals. The clinical diagnosis of typhoid is difficult due to the overlapping symptoms of typhoid fever, non-typhoidal Salmonella, and other associated febrile diseases, which causes to delayed treatment. Herein, this study aims to provide a reproducible, discriminative protein fingerprint of two different Salmonella serovars using a differential extraction procedure comprising of whole cell protein (WCP), cell surface protein (CSP) and surface-depleted whole cell protein (sdWCP) derived from whole cell bacterial protein of Salmonella Typhi (S.Typhi) and Salmonella spp (S.spp). In the present research, we perform comparative analysis to characterize protein profiles of two differentially extracted Salmonella serovars by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and dendrogram analysis. The findings showed that the proteins were reproducible in optimized concentration. Separation of protein into three different extractions revealed discriminative protein profiles with major and micro-heterogenicity. We observed the diverseness of differentially extracted proteins between two strains which provided an effective adjunct that can be used in identification of Salmonella strains. The results achieved when differential extraction procedure was applied, provides a promising, future opportunity for further immunoproteomic classifications.

It was developed specifically to detect strain changes that occur including flex changes. Some issues in conventional strain measurement are found to be less suitable due to the inaccuracy to measure the strain for an elongation using a flexible curve ruler, especially strain related to angle changes. Therefore, a study on the development of a stretchable conductive sensor is required. This initial study will focus on characterizing the suitability of fabric materials and thread patterns to develop a sensor that will be used to measure stretch more accurately. In this study, conductive yarns were constructed with two types of stretchable fabrics having different percentages of spandex elements. The thread will be sewn to the side of the fabric in two of the fabric states, namely course (horizontal) and wales (vertical). For both conditions, five (5) similar samples were sewn for 8% and 15% spandex fabric. Preliminary results found that the best sensor performance was a fabric containing 15% spandex material with conductive threads sewn along the horizontal orientation of the fabric. In a study on resistance varying with the tension applied to the sensor, model D showed the best performance when stretched up to a force of 4 N. The resistance shown by the sensor varies from 47MΩ to 66MΩ relative to the applied force from 0 N to 4 N. The results of this preliminary study are expected to be used in widespread measurement applications.

The aim of this study was to assess the level of noise pollution from road traffic noise in Seri Kembangan, Selangor. Therefore, this study included measurements of traffic noise level, evaluation of the percentage traffic volume between residential and construction areas; and identification of the correlation between traffic volume and traffic noise level. An EXTECH 407764 sound level meter was used to take noise level measurements for 1 hour and 30 minutes in one-minute intervals at both study sites. The parameter collected in the noise level monitoring was average noise level (LAeq). The traffic volume study was conducted using manual counts for 30 minutes. Four types of vehicles were counted, namely cars, vans, motorcycles, and heavy vehicles. Based on statistical analysis, it can be concluded that both sites had high traffic noise levels which exceeded the maximum permissible limit of 60 dBA during daytime, according to Malaysian guidelines, due to several factors. The findings show that road infrastructure such as noise barriers need to be further implemented, especially in residential areas. Mitigation of noise pollution must be further carried out by contractors. Additionally, further investigations need to be conducted by the relevant authorities to reduce the level of noise which may affect the quality of life for the communities in the area.

The welding parameters are crucial in determining welding quality, cost, and productivity. In this study, mild steel with a 10-mm-thick sheet was welded by gas metal arc welding under predetermined parameters of welding voltage, wire feed speed, and groove shape. The analysis made by Taguchi’s design to investigate the effect of these parameters on tensile strength and Vickers micro-hardness of welding. The microstructure of the fusion zone and heat-affected zone is analyzed to monitor their change concerning the mechanical properties. The results showed that tensile strength decreased with decreased hardness. Also, the tensile strength and hardness were higher (a maximum of 305 MPa and 2170 HVN) at welding made at a lower voltage (20 volts), lower wire feed speed (5.9 m/min), and V-shaped base metal groove. The increased precipitation of perlite structure was shown during welding, which has lower tensile strength and hardness. Widmanstatten ferrite and coarser α-ferrite were presented for welding with a lower cooling time. Taguchi’s design showed that voltage at 20 volts has the highest effect on tensile strength, followed by wire feed speed at 5.9 m/min and V-shaped welding.
