Within an hour, it reaches its lowest point, which can be as low as 20 to 25 mg/dl. All healthy newborns experience this low point and have lower than average blood glucose levels. These are just temporary, and they gradually increase in the first few days of a newborn's life. : To determine the proportion of asymptomatic hypoglycemia in at risk newborn babies. To study plasma sugar level at various time, point during first 48hr of life and the effect of risk factor associated with asymptomatic hypoglycemia. : A Hospital-based longitudinal observational study was conducted among 303 patients at Department of Pediatrics of tertiary care Hospital during June 2021 – July 2021. : Total 159 were males and 154 were females. Among the study participants, 203(83%) cases were from Urban area, while 50(17%) were from Rural area. No. of 114(37.6%) babies had asymptomatic hypoglycemia, identified by routine screening. In total various risk factors was found in which among 29% cases had LGA, 41% had preterm and 30% had weight less than 2 kg. : Screening of at risk newborn helps in the early detection of asymptomatic hypoglycemia which will help in the prevention of adverse neurodevelopmental outcome. Routine screening helped to decrease morbidity and mortality due to hypoglycemia. The first 24 hours of life is a crucial part, at - risk babies are more prone to hypoglycemia hence routine screening is recommended in high-risk babies.","PeriodicalId":472741,"journal":{"name":"IP international journal of medical paediatrics and oncology","volume":"136 21","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140976893","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This deficit poses a significant challenge to the delivery of healthcare services, particularly in the context of intensive care units (ICUs) where the use of advanced medical technologies, such as ventilators, is paramount. For nurses with limited experience in ICU settings, navigating the complexities of invasive positive pressure ventilation (IPPV), a principal method of mechanical ventilation for critically ill patients can be daunting. This article aims to serve as a comprehensive guide for nurses less familiar with the intricacies of managing patients on IPPV, offering insights and strategies to enhance their competence and confidence in this critical aspect of patient care.","PeriodicalId":472741,"journal":{"name":"IP international journal of medical paediatrics and oncology","volume":"135 33","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140977178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most common cause of death in children worldwide is pneumonia. Due to the general non-specificity of the signs and symptoms, clinical history and physical examination cannot reliably distinguish between the causes of respiratory cases. As a result, accurate diagnosis frequently requires medical imaging, but two-thirds of the world's population lack access to diagnostic imaging, which lead to increasing the consequences of respiratory illnesses. : To know the characteristic of pneumonia in x-ray and ultrasonography. To compare X-ray chest and USG for early diagnosis. : A Prospective observational study was conducted among 100 paediatric patients diagnosed with pneumonia and admitted in paediatric ward, at New Civil Hospital, Surat. : Out of total, 52.7% and 47.3% patients were Males and Females, respectively. 87.2% cases were fully immunized, while remaining were partially immunized. In present case report, a 14-year-old girl presented with clinico-laboratory and imaging evidence of acute pancreatitis but did not respond to the standard line of management for pancreatitis. Later, the laboratory investigations pointed to the diagnosis of MIS-C. She responded well to a pulse doses of methylprednisolone therapy. Acute pancreatitis as a lone manifestation of MIS-C poses a diagnostic challenge for paediatricians, and one should suspect MIS-C in acute non-responding pancreatitis.","PeriodicalId":472741,"journal":{"name":"IP international journal of medical paediatrics and oncology","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140976213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, the research aimed to analyze the clinical progression of these infants throughout their NICU stay.Conducted within the NICU at IGIMS, Patna, Bihar, this study encompassed term and late preterm infants admitted with serum bilirubin levels exceeding 12 mg/dl. The primary focus was on identifying risk factors, etiological factors, and the clinical profile of these infants during their NICU tenure.The study examined birth weight distribution and concurrent medical conditions. Parameters included the initiation of phototherapy based on bilirubin levels and treatment methodologies. Out of the 210 infants studied, 27.14% and 47.62% weighed between 2001 and 2500 grams. The most prevalent causes were physiological (129 cases), fetal prematurity (30 cases), birth asphyxia (7 cases), and prolonged labor (18 cases). Idiopathic causes were observed in 28 instances, ABO incompatibility in 7 cases, and Rh incompatibility in 7 cases. G6PD deficiency was identified once. At the commencement of phototherapy, 19.52% had bilirubin levels between 12 and 15 mg/dl, 58.57% between 15.1 and 18 mg/dl, 11.91% above 20 mg/dl, and 10% between 18.1 and 20 mg/dl.Physiological causes emerged as the most frequent contributors to neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, followed by septicemia and idiopathic factors. Infrequent causes included blood group incompatibility. Phototherapy was established as a cost-effective and efficient method for reducing bilirubin levels in neonatal jaundice. Exchange transfusion proved to be a safe therapeutic measure in cases of severe hyperbilirubinemia. Blood group incompatibility was the main determinant requiring exchange transfusion.","PeriodicalId":472741,"journal":{"name":"IP international journal of medical paediatrics and oncology","volume":"53 16","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140972113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can be single and discrete or it may present as multiple lesions at different anatomic sites. There is a correlation between the frequency of cutaneous metastasis and the type and prevalence of primary cancer. Head and neck squamous cell carcinomas are aggressive tumors with metastasis occurring in up to 15-20% cases. However, they rarely metastasize to skin and the reported incidence is about 0.8-1.3%. Although children may not experience severe physical symptoms of the disease, their psychological well-being can be greatly affected. The primary objective of this study was to examine the psychological impact of COVID-19 on children residing in the Kashmir valley in terms of evolution of autistic traits in them. Cross-sectional study was conducted amongst 300 family members of children aged between 4 to 16-years. Data was collected through an online questionnaire using Google Forms and purposive sampling technique was used to assess autism. The sample for the study consisted of children in the 4 year to 16-year age group. A self-designed validated questionnaire in Google Form was used to collect the information. Chidhood Autism Rating Scale-2 (CARS-2) was used in those with excessive mobile phone usage. The results of the study revealed that only 3% of the children were infected with COVID-19. 7% of the sample reported that a close family member of a child was infected. Furthermore, 76% of the sample reported that they discussed COVID-19 with their children. In terms of behavioral changes, 54% of the sample noticed a change in their child's behaviour during the COVID pandemic. Additionally, 51% reported a change in their children's learning patterns, and 48% reported that their child had become possessive about new things since the pandemic. Furthermore, 35% of the sample reported a change in their child's sleeping cycle, 22.7% reported a loss of appetite, and 56% reported that their child imagined and talked about COVID-19 with others. It was also found that 80.3% of the sample had adhered to COVID-19 precautions. Only 4.3% reported negative thoughts expressed by their children since the pandemic, while 88% reported that their children were ready to discuss in future COVID-19. In the 4 to 6 year age group, out of 12 children with excessive mobile phone use, it was found that two were having symptoms consistent with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Other common symptoms noticed in this age group were found to be clapping, single verbal sounds, inability to express needs, moderate abnormal listening response, echolalia and video dialoguing. Most families reported that their children were possessive about new things and most of them were not sitting at one place for a long time. A large percentage of families reported that they found changes in the sleep pattern and duration of sleep was more than 9 hours. It was also found that screen time during COVID-19 increased among school-going children.","PeriodicalId":472741,"journal":{"name":"IP international journal of medical paediatrics and oncology","volume":"175 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140455706","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
