Panopticism takes the form of medical regime authority aimed at surveillance, regulation, and discipline to frame the thoughts and actions of individuals in line with modern health standards. The issue is that panopticism doesn't always work effectively according to the desires of the medical regime. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the mechanisms of panopticism and identify the spectrum of resistance to the modern healthcare system. Using an applied method, the study found resistance in modern health practices, namely: (a) accessing modern treatment but accompanied by skepticism and criticism of modern medicine; (b) developing a pluralistic or combinative medical orientation; (c) opting out and constructing alternative discourses about the healthcare system following autonomy of will and power. Buddhist Kampong has experienced minimal COVID-19 exposure, demonstrating a proficient response to the pandemic. However, this success story remains largely unknown to various stakeholders, necessitating comprehensive research to delineate and elucidate the intrinsic value of local wisdom and its assimilation process. Using an ethnographic approach, this two-year research project was carried out in Sodong Hamlet, Gelangkulon, Sampung Ponorogo, East Java, Indonesia. Primary and secondary sources were tapped, with research informants identified as traditional, religious, and community leaders. Data collection encompassed interviews, observations, and document recordings, all analyzed using an interactive model. The findings revealed a distinct value system within the Buddhist Kampong, shaping their approach to COVID-19 mitigation. This value system revolves around the principles of Memayu Hayuning Kulawarga, Memayu Hayuning Sasama, and Memayu Hayuning Bawana, influencing the community’s engagement in check-in rituals, care for sasomo and cooperation, and the restoration of padasan and diyang. The figures embodying this local wisdom guide community members in internalizing customs, religion, and parental teachings. Abundant local materials and skilled human resources are two major strengths that need to be optimally managed to increase the selling value of design products. The pandemic has significantly impacted the welfare of furniture and handicraft artisans in Java. This paper aims to demonstrate the process and role of interior product designers (IPDs) in improving the socio-economic welfare of artisans after the pandemic. IPDs collaborated with Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), artisans, private entrepreneurs, governments, exporters, and associations to deal with vulnerabilities after the pandemic to achieve the development of policies and strategies toward sustainable community welfare. This IPDs role mainly focused on utilizing water hyacinth and rattan as the material for interior products to be accepted in local and global markets. The IPDs faced challenges in collaboration and unification of aspirations and interests between each party. The research used Kelley’s design thinking method, implementing the empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test stages. The latest information on commodities produced by SME artisans, the existing advantages and disadvantages, and in-depth studies of developing market issues in Indonesia, Asia, and Europe were explored. The resulting design was then adjusted to the availability of raw materials, the production capabilities of the artisan, as well as the support of tools and technology used. The production process involved the government and industrial assistance in supporting the needs of machinery and production technology. Market tests at home country and abroad were conducted to determine the market response to the product.
