The paper raises critical questions as regards the concepts of an African sexuality ranging from; what constitutes the grounds for a conceptualisation of African sexuality? To what extent do the viability or non-viability of such ground answer the deep challenges as it relates to alternative sexualities? How does the question of sexuality play a role in determining the ideological framework upon which intra-socio-cultural interrogations are properly built? To this end, the baseline argument of this paper, seeks to create a point of synergy between the concept of African sexuality and the dynamics of sexualities in Africa, by presenting a moderate call for the decolonization of African minds, most especially as it pertains to issues of sexuality, through an analysis of the diverse patterns within which sexuality has been conceived within the African setting. Furthermore, in reclaiming the sanctity of an African perspective, this paper argues for cultural conservatism as both a historic African phenomenon, and a more pragmatic approach towards attaining a mentally decolonized post-colonial Africa.","PeriodicalId":472401,"journal":{"name":"African journal of social sciences and humanities research","volume":"124 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140474998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can also be used to incubate hatred and fan violence. A man’s health can affect his peace and how he relates and function in the world. Social media ensures the swift flow of information between people irrespective of geographical borders. It is therefore pertinent that accurate information and data be corroborated swiftly so as to prevent misleading information dangerous to the health, peace and wellbeing from spreading to the general public. The research looked into how the social media and smartwatches impact on healthcare management and personal wellbeing. The study was conducted among the postgraduate students of Afe Babalola university Ado Ekiti, Nigeria. The selected sample size for the study comprised of 60 participants who were purposively selected and issued survey questionnaires. The study found out that the social media has led to the rise of false information about health practices among graduate students. The study also found that smartwatches has a positive significant effect on health management among graduate students in ABUAD.","PeriodicalId":472401,"journal":{"name":"African journal of social sciences and humanities research","volume":"31 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139452123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study evaluated the impact of good governance on health outcomes, education output and economic growth among selected African countries using panel data from 2000 to 2020. The Panel unit root tests indicated that real gross domestic product, health outcome, and indicators of good governance are stationary at a level. In contrast, education output, education expenditure, health expenditure and foreign aid are stationary at first difference. The Generalized Method of Moment (GMM) results show that good governance indicators have positive and statistically significant effects on real gross domestic product in the selected African countries. Education expenditure has a positive and statistically significant effect on real gross domestic product in the selected African Countries. Primary school enrolment has a positive and statistically significant effect on real gross domestic product in the selected African Countries. Life expectancy has a positive and statistically significant effect on real gross domestic product in the selected African Countries. Health expenditure has a negative but statistically significant effect on real gross domestic product in the selected African Countries. Foreign aid has a positive and statistically significant effect on real gross domestic product in the selected African Countries. The study recommends that African countries should ensure an adequate supply of medical facilities at the level, minimise the incidence of insecurity challenges, and have a good standard of living to increase the life expectancy of African people. All things being equal, the economic growth will increase.","PeriodicalId":472401,"journal":{"name":"African journal of social sciences and humanities research","volume":"7 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139452691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was anchored on agency theory. The correlational design was adopted. The probability sampling technique was used in selecting bank employees across eleven (11) commercial banks. Also, structured questionnaires, in-depth interview (IDI) and key informant interview (KII) were used in gathering primary data. In the same vein, content and face validity type were adopted while Cronbach Alpha (0.81) was used to determine the reliability of questionnaire, 83.6% (337) copies of questionnaire were retrieved and analyzed with simple percentage, Chi-square (x^2) while the study adopted thematic analysis for qualitative data. The study established that bank employees in the Yenagoa metropolis were committed, met daily targets, with high sales growth and low turnover rate. The study recommends that commercial banks in the Yenagoa metropolis should evaluate the minimum salary requirements for bank staff. The study also suggests that in order to maintain improvements in job commitment, sales growth, service quality, targets, and low turnover intentions, commercial bank employees should be motivated by economic and non-economic incentives to carry out their mission. In order to better understand how to enhance service quality in Yenagoa metropolis, Bayelsa state, the study also suggested that commercial banks should conduct self-assessment surveys among bank employees.","PeriodicalId":472401,"journal":{"name":"African journal of social sciences and humanities research","volume":"72 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135373094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The researcher used a mixed research methodology as her research instruments contained both questionnaires and interviews. A qualitative research methodology was used in carrying out the study as this enabled the researchers to explore on the topic hence giving vivid information as well as an in-depth understanding of the issues at hand. The researcher used a phenomenological research design. The target population comprised twenty-seven people, who included twenty-two children and five caregivers. Systematic sampling was the sampling technique used. Ethics in research were also considered, which included confidentiality, privacy, anonymity and informed consent. Data was presented using tables, smart art and also descriptions. Major findings were that all the children at the orphanage faced psychosocial problems and they used a variety of ways to cope with the situation. The orphanage however tries to offer psycho-social support (PSS) though they pleaded for the government to help them implement and improve their PSS services. The overall recommendation was that the Zimbabwean government should ensure that children living in orphanages’ psycho-social problems must be addressed and dealt with.","PeriodicalId":472401,"journal":{"name":"African journal of social sciences and humanities research","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136019322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It employed FDI as the dependent variable, while business freedom (BF) and trade freedom (TF) are the independent variables. FDI data were sourced from World Development Indicator (WDI), while BF and TF data were sourced from Index of Economic Freedom. Descriptive statistics were used to reveal behavioral tendencies of the data; both Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) and Phillips-Perron (PP) unit root tests established mixed series of I(0) and I(1). F-bound test and Nayaran table showed long-horizon nexus between the series. The study found that in the long-horizon, the coefficients of both BF and TF have positive nexus with FDI, but are not statistically significant at 5% level of significance. Consequently, it was recommended that policy makers should improve on the openness and transparency with which businesses and trade are carried on within the economy, and interaction with other business people and government at the global level. In addition, deliberate efforts should be made to remove institutional rigidities and bureaucratic impediments to trade and investment.","PeriodicalId":472401,"journal":{"name":"African journal of social sciences and humanities research","volume":"46 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136376838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was therefore conducted to establish the effect of this cultural and social institution called polygamous marriage on children education. This qualitative study used a case study design to collect data from 20 individuals from polygamous families. Data was gathered using an interview guide and analysed thematically. From the data analyses, it was found that polygamous marriage has both positive and negative effects on the education of children from those families though the negative consequences seem to have outweighed the positive. It was therefore concluded that polygamous marriage has the potential of influencing children education positively or negatively depending on the character or attitude of the spouses involved.","PeriodicalId":472401,"journal":{"name":"African journal of social sciences and humanities research","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135825371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is often seen as a way to initiate young males into adult society and convey societal expectations of masculinity. Based on the Ubuntu philosophy, the study employed a qualitative exploratory design and semi-structured interviews that were analyzed using thematic decomposition analysis. The study purposively sampled 30 respondents from Bukusu (Kenya), Aembu (Kenya) and Lemba (Zimbabwe). Data was collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed thematically. Findings revealed that traditional circumcision of men served as a mechanism for imparting societal values, beliefs, and responsibilities to young boys, reinforcing cultural norms and expectations of masculinity. Through this process, boys were educated about their roles and responsibilities within their specific community, which may include aspects such as being a provider for their families, protecting their communities, and upholding cultural traditions. This study recommends engagement in respectful dialogue and collaboration between western perspectives and African communities for a better understanding of the cultural significance of circumcision while addressing health and safety concerns.","PeriodicalId":472401,"journal":{"name":"African journal of social sciences and humanities research","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135766948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It made use of inter-disciplinary methods specifically: historical approach and ethnography. The study is designed to address the significance of history in the following areas: that history provides identity, promotes and encourages good citizenship, serves as a guide to improve society and avoid past mistakes, and history also fosters national cohesion. This paper discovered that some people believed that history is obsolete or irrelevant. Thus this paper revealed that the study of the past will help us to learn from mistakes that were made before us so that we do not repeat them. It can help us to solve problems that we face today by seeing the solutions that were tried in the past. History provides a sense of identity. However, if we believe that studying history is useless, we admit that we are living lives which will become useless in future. Therefore, studying history should be encouraged at all costs.","PeriodicalId":472401,"journal":{"name":"African journal of social sciences and humanities research","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135407057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
