A volunteer working group of employees evaluated current safety conditions at NT-faculty and beyond, and found a wide range of issues with many overlapping causes. This report contains their findings related to three overarching problem areas: communication, accountability, and training; as well as a range of topical safety areas such as chemicals, fieldwork, and biohazards. The report concludes that significant reform is needed from the top and at all levels to prevent both physical injury and further damage to the working environment.","PeriodicalId":471526,"journal":{"name":"Septentrio reports","volume":"59 24","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140675700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Senteret inngår som del av UiTs humaniorasatsing fra 2021 initiert av HSL-fak, UMAK og UB, og er et tiltak for å bidra til å nå målene i utviklingsavtalen med KD når det gjelder styrking av kunnskap i og om Arktis. Den bygger på stortingsmelding Humaniora i Norge (2016-2017), UiTs humaniora strategi (2021) og UiTs strategi Eallju- Drivkraft i Nord: Forskning på arktisk & nordområder, de store samfunnsutfordringer, talentutvikling & mangfold (2022). The reason for this inquiry stems from the escalating recognition that contemporary food systems are increasingly linked to adverse environmental and socioeconomic repercussions, contributing substantially to approximately 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. This imperative for change is driven by numerous factors, including the climate crisis, rapid urbanization, evolving dietary preferences, and the expansion of the global population. Consequently, a foundational shift towards food systems characterised by diminished environmental impacts and carbon footprints becomes imperative. Furthermore, aligning with the Agenda 2030, there is an urgent call for expeditious adoption of a more resource-efficient bioeconomy within the world's food systems. Within this context, the integration of sustainable blue food systems, particularly in food producing sectors such as aquaculture, emerges as a critical facet of the solution. Despite the prevailing inclination towards augmenting sea-based food consumption through diverse blue growth strategies, it is crucial to ensure that unsustainable practices inherent in land-based food systems, are not replicated in marine environments. To actualize sustainable blue food systems in the aquaculture sector, the realization of resilient, equitable, and enduring solutions is paramount. The anticipated outcome of this investigative endeavour is rooted in the understanding that the application of legal and regulatory mechanisms can wield substantial influence in the transition process. Such mechanisms are integral to the formulation of comprehensive aquaculture management strategies that strike a judicious balance between safeguarding, rehabilitation, and utilization. The workshop constitutes a key touch base activity and outcome for the project SECURE, UiT The Arctic University of Norway.","PeriodicalId":471526,"journal":{"name":"Septentrio reports","volume":"17 17","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139822344","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The journey aimed to assess the midterm results of the ECOCARE research and education, fostering connections with various partner institutions and key individuals. Objectives included evaluating the research and educational outcomes and engaging with members from partner institutions such as professors Rodrigo Tavares (Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, UFRRJ), Giulia Parola (ECO_CARE Coordinator for Brazil and Research Fellow at the Department of Law, University of Turin), Margherita Poto (ECO_CARE Principal Investigator), and exchange students Cecília Campos (UNIRIO) and Aline Wennerstrom (UFRRJ). Additionally, the ECO_CARE midterm program developed with the Chiquitano community members, our ECO_CARE non-academic partners, were pivotal in shaping the project's direction. The journey featured diverse activities, including co-led sessions on indigenous knowledge (at Vila Nova Barbecho), major events presenting co-created project results (Vila Nova Barbecho, Aldeia Central, Aldeia Acorizal,  Terra Indígena Portal Do Encantado), field trips to river courses and waterfalls (Rio Nopetarch - Vila Nova Barbecho Tarumã River, Cachoeira do Barbado Aldeia and Fazendinha), and informal meetings with community members, teachers, family members and children. Additional external funding from EGU Public Engagement Grants 2023 facilitated the presentation of an educational toolkit to the school pupils involved in water and ocean literacy activities, integrating materials from the Ocean Senses project (Akma2, coordinated by Giuliana Panieri), to children and teachers.","PeriodicalId":471526,"journal":{"name":"Septentrio reports","volume":"3 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138595414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This event, organized at UiT The Arctic University of Norway on the 19th and 20th of September 2023, served as a pivotal platform for the convergence of various project outcomes. It synergized the achievements of Akma2 Ocean Senses, which advances ocean literacy through multisensory toolkits, alongside the endeavours of ECO_CARE and Follow Your Heart, dedicated to fostering emotional and ecological education and research. This event marks the kick-off of The Ocean Incubator Network, a newly established network funded by UArctic. Moreover, this workshop welcomed insights and contributions from other projects and departments, including the School of Business and Economics at the UiT The Arctic University of Norway, The Deep Network Project, and The Thalassophile Project. Together, we aim to create a dynamic and comprehensive platform for the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and collaboration in the realm of ocean-related education and awareness.","PeriodicalId":471526,"journal":{"name":"Septentrio reports","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135351353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
