Operating room staff are particularly susceptible to experiencing low back pain due to the nature of their work. Objectives: We conducted a study to investigate the prevalence of low back pain and the factors associated with it. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 323 operating room staff from five hospitals affiliated with Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences. Data was collected using a questionnaire developed by Tavakol et al. This questionnaire included demographic information and assessed the prevalence and dimensions of low back pain. The data was analyzed using IBM SPSS v.26. Results: The results showed that the prevalence of low back pain (LBP) was 74.3%. In this study, 64.8% of the personnel were women, 63.5% were married, and 72.4% had a bachelor's degree. Additionally, 87% had no history of smoking. The average age was 33.83 ± 7.02 years. There was a significant relationship between the prevalence of LBP and gender (P = 0.044), marital status (P = 0.0001), BMI (P = 0.008), age (P = 0.0001), shift work (P = 0.001), work experience (P = 0.0001), and the average number of shifts (P = 0.037). Conclusions: We found a high prevalence of LBP among operating room personnel, which is related to both individual and occupational factors. Our recommendations for nursing managers include modifying work shifts, allocating less physically demanding tasks to senior personnel and females, and implementing educational programs that focus on improving ergonomics and reducing physical strain.","PeriodicalId":471457,"journal":{"name":"Jundishapur Journal of Chronic Disease Care","volume":"33 16","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141814320","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The quality of valve repair is typically assessed using transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and saline injection tests intraoperatively. However, TEE is not universally available, particularly in resource-limited settings. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of saline injection tests as the sole method for assessing cardiac valve repair quality. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients who underwent cardiac valve surgery without intraoperative TEE assessment. Preoperative transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) was performed on all patients. A consistent team performed all valve repairs, and the quality of these repairs was assessed intraoperatively using the saline injection test. Postoperative TTE was also conducted to evaluate valve function and compare it with preoperative measurements. Results: The study comprised 16 patients (mean age: 63.8 ± 10.6), predominantly male. Mitral valve (MV) repair was performed on 11 patients, with nine showing improved function (P-value: 0.006). Seven patients underwent tricuspid valve repair (TVr), all of whom exhibited improved function (P-value: 0.01). Four patients received aortic valve repair, with three showing improved function (P-value: 0.10). Additionally, significant improvements were observed in left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDd), left ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDV), inter-ventricular septal diameter, posterior wall thickness (PWT), tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE), right ventricular peak systolic myocardial velocity (RVSm), pulmonary artery pressure, tricuspid regurgitation (TR) gradient, and right atrium area. Conclusions: The saline injection test can be a valuable tool for assessing the quality of mitral and tricuspid valve repairs, particularly when TEE is unavailable. However, its reliability for aortic valve repair remains uncertain.","PeriodicalId":471457,"journal":{"name":"Jundishapur Journal of Chronic Disease Care","volume":"118 28","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141819851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objectives: This study conducted in Rasht aimed to determine the utilization of outpatient health services among older adults covered by comprehensive health service centers and the factors associated with it. Methods: This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on 384 older adults aged 60 years and older covered by comprehensive health service centers. The sampling method was stratified random sampling based on consecutive sampling. The information required was collected through a researcher-made two-part questionnaire, including individual-social characteristics and outpatient services, via interviews. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 21 software. The significance level of the tests was considered to be P < 0.05. Results: The results showed that 82.8% of the older adults required outpatient services and 90.9% of them actually received these services. Out of the total, 65.1% went to private sector facilities, 17% to public facilities, and the remaining 18% visited facilities in both sectors. The main reasons for not utilizing outpatient services were the lack of money and the inability to pay. Factors such as place of residence (P = 0.014, OR = 2.417), the presence of chronic disorders (P = 0.047, OR = 1.689), health status (P = 0.012, OR = 0.619), and education level (P = 0.05, OR = 0.763) were found to be associated with the utilization of outpatient services. Conclusions: Two-thirds of the sample had chronic diseases, most of them received outpatient services from the private sector, and about 75% of those who did not receive the service could not afford the costs. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the quality of outpatient services in the public sector and enhance their accessibility. Some individuals were unaware of health screenings for older adults in the comprehensive health services centers, so informing them about these services can be useful in promoting their utilization by older adults and reducing the costs of outpatient services.","PeriodicalId":471457,"journal":{"name":"Jundishapur Journal of Chronic Disease Care","volume":" 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141829232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the survival rates and identify mortality predictors among hemodialysis patients in Qazvin Province, Iran, over a five-year period from March 2015 to March 2020. Methods: This historical cohort study involved 378 hemodialysis patients from seven hospitals in Qazvin province, including Bu Ali Sina, Velayat, Razi, Alvand, Valiasr, Bueen Zahra, and Avaj, covering the period from March 21, 2015, to March 20, 2020. The study was based on data extracted from the patient's medical records, offering a detailed overview of their medical history and treatments during this timeframe. Results: The study revealed a median survival time of 38.5 months, with survival rates at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 years being 84.3%, 68.1%, 53.2%, 39.8%, and 18.0%, respectively. Cox regression analysis identified several key predictors of mortality. Mortality rates increased with age, higher levels of blood urea nitrogen, and when hemoglobin levels fell below 10 g/dL or calcium levels exceeded 9.5 mg/dL. Conversely, patients who underwent hemodialysis three times a week had higher levels of education, used fistula access, and experienced significantly lower mortality rates. Conclusions: The study highlighted the need for targeted interventions to improve both the survival rates and quality of life for hemodialysis patients in Qazvin Province. It emphasized the importance of careful monitoring and effective management of factors such as age, blood urea nitrogen, hemoglobin, and calcium levels, as well as the patients' educational background, frequency of dialysis sessions, and type of vascular access. By focusing on these aspects, healthcare professionals in the region could significantly enhance patient outcomes and prognoses in hemodialysis care.","PeriodicalId":471457,"journal":{"name":"Jundishapur Journal of Chronic Disease Care","volume":"22 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140722403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most commonly employed revascularization method for treating ischemic heart disease is percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). An improvement in the patient's quality of life frequently serves as the primary measure of PCI's success. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of an educational program grounded in the information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model on the quality of life of patients who have undergone PCI. Methods: This quasi-experimental study involved 84 patients selected from those referred to the Cardiovascular Clinic of Razi Hospital in Birjand city, located in eastern Khorasan. Participants were required to fill out a demographics form and the Short Form of the Quality-of-Life Questionnaire (SF-12). They were then divided into an intervention group (n = 42) and a control group (n = 42) through the use of the permuted block method. Those in the intervention group participated in a 6-week educational program (meeting once weekly) designed around the IMB model. The control group received the standard care available at the Cardiovascular Clinic. Both groups were asked to return to the Cardiology Clinic 6 weeks after the initial test to complete the SF-12 (posttest). All participants were surveyed again one month after the second questionnaire completion (follow-up). Results: The intervention group showed a significant increase in the mean score of physical health immediately and one month after the intervention, compared to the pretest scores (P = 0.001 and P = 0.004, respectively). Furthermore, the mean posttest score for psychological health in the intervention group significantly improved compared to the pretest (P < 0.001), and their follow-up score improved significantly compared to the posttest score (P = 0.02). There were no significant changes in the mean scores for physical and psychological health in the control group over time (P > 0.05). Conclusions: This study indicates that the quality of life for patients post-PCI can be significantly improved through participation in an educational program based on the IMB model. This research provides a foundation for the development of interventions with more enduring effects on post-PCI patient outcomes.","PeriodicalId":471457,"journal":{"name":"Jundishapur Journal of Chronic Disease Care","volume":"47 39","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140231572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
