Such a conceptualization excludes sexually active single individuals, while confusing sexual and relational satisfaction with sexual well-being as both determinant and outcome. In this research, we propose an intrapersonal perspective focused on cognitive sexual and relational mental representations as determinants of sexual well-being. Based on behavioral systems theory, we suggest that a high level of integration of sexual and relational mental representations should be associated with sexual well-being indicators, whereas a weaker level of integration should correspond to a lower level of sexual well-being. We developed a novel codification scheme to measure the cognitive integration of sexual and relational mental representations in narratives of sexual autobiographical memories. We examined its associations with sexual well-being indicators (satisfaction, passion, and sociosexuality). In a sample of 142 students, results showed that integration of sexual and relational representations in memories was positively associated with sexual satisfaction and harmonious passion, and negatively with obsessive passion and sociosexual desire. Results suggest that an integrated cognitive organization of sexual and relational mental representations in autobiographical memories can reflect a greater sexual well-being. Clinical implications are discussed.Lay SummaryAutobiographical memories are rich systems formed by the association of mental representations (e.g. images, words, scripts) that may reflect individual’s personality. Measuring organization of relational and sexual mental representations in sexual memories– an innovative method – provides an individual indicator reflecting sexual well-being. This is a wealthy avenue for having a new comprehension of mechanisms associated with sexual well-being, beyond relationship status or the type of personal relationships.Keywords: Autobiographical memoriescognitive integrationintimacymental representationssexual satisfactionsexual well-being Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the authors.Additional informationFundingThis work was supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada under Grant 435-2017-1358.","PeriodicalId":47131,"journal":{"name":"Sexual and Relationship Therapy","volume":"33 14","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135682729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several studies also draw attention to the positive outcomes that pornography consumption can have. The current study investigated associations between the context of internet pornography use and sexual desire in a sample of 1742 individuals in romantic relationships. Having used an online questionnaire, we compared shared pornography consumption, concordant solitary consumption, discordant consumption, and no consumption. The study centred on the frequency of intercourse in relationships and partner-focused dyadic sexual desire. Results showed that shared pornography consumers and non-consumers had the highest frequency of intercourse per month compared to discordant consumers and solitary concordant consumers. In terms of sexual desire, shared consumers and discordant consumers had the highest sexual desire. However, the effect is caused more by the influence of gender than by the context of pornography consumption, as males showed higher sexual desire than females. Implications, significance, and limitations of obtained results in the present study are also discussed in relation to moderating variables included. It is suggested that the associations of these factors are investigated in future studies. Several directions for further research are discussed in light of these findings.LAY SUMMARYThe research examines the connections between pornography and sexual desire in relationships. We compare individuals from relationships in which pornography is consumed together, separately, by only one of the partners, or not at all. Shared pornography consumers and discordant consumers had the highest sexual desire.Keywords: Pornographyromantic relationshipssexual activitysexual desire Disclosure statementThe authors did not receive support from any organization for the submitted work. Sociodemographic and religious data from this sample are provided. Frequencies of Satanists’ engagement in different sexual behaviors are also explored. Furthermore, two aspects of Satanists’ sexual self-concept, sexual self-esteem and sexual anxiety, are assessed along with these variables’ relationships with the strength of Satanists’ group identity and the length of time identifying as a Satanist. Results indicate that the strength of Satanists’ identity impacts both their sexual self-esteem and sexual anxiety. Limitations and directions for future research on Satanism and sexuality are discussed.LAY SUMMARYThe purpose of this study is to examine the sexual behaviors and attitudes of modern Satanists. It is also an important point of view to what extent body image and sensation seeking will have an impact. This research was conducted to determine the relationships between proactive personality and sexual satisfaction and body image and sensation seeking and the mediating effect of body image and sensation seeking on the relationship between proactive personality and sexual satisfaction. Data were collected from a convenience sample of 320 participants. Data analysis was done with regression and Pearson correlation coefficient. A proactive personality was positively related to sexual satisfaction, and sensation-seeking was negatively related to body image. As a result of the mediation analysis based on regression to determine the mediating effects concluded that body image and sensation-seeking had a mediating effect on the relationship between proactive personality and sexual satisfaction. These results improve our understanding of the underlying mechanism between proactive personality and sexual satisfaction, considering the roles of adults’ body perceptions and exciting activities.LAY SUMMARYThose in managerial positions are expected to have a proactive personality. To have a dynamic structure in the workplace and to be more productive, individuals’ sexual satisfaction levels should be at a sufficient level. In this study, it was revealed that individuals with high levels of proactive personality also have high levels of sexual satisfaction. In addition, the level of negative perception of body image, which is negatively related to sexual satisfaction, is also negatively related to proactive personality. In addition, among the factors related to the relationship between proactive personality and sexual satisfaction, sensation-seeking has a positive effect, while negative body image has a negative effect.Keywords: Proactive personalitysexual satisfactionbody imagesensation-seeking AcknowledgmentsThank numerous individuals who participated in this study.
