The specific objectives are to explore the FSCs for high-rise students’ housing facilities and assess the level of importance and satisfaction with the FSCs provided in high-rise students’ housing facilities in controlling fire outbreaks. Design/methodology/approach The study uses an exploratory sequential design with an initial qualitative phase followed by a quantitative data collection phase. Twenty FSCs were identified through the qualitative phase via semistructured interviews. Their importance and satisfaction were revealed through survey questionnaires with 168 respondents who stayed in or were involved in the operation of high-rise students’ housing facilities. Data from the qualitative phase were analyzed thematically, and those obtained from the quantitative phase were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. Findings The study’s findings revealed that all the 20 FSCs identified via the qualitative phase and confirmed through the quantitative phase were perceived to be very important in fighting fires in high-rise students’ housing facilities. However, only 9 out of the 20 FSCs received some satisfaction among the respondents in fighting fires in the facilities. Originality/value This study offers insight into a rare study area, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. In addition, it grants insight into the occupants’ perspective regarding which FSCs they consider essential and their level of satisfaction with such FSCs in fighting fires in high-rise students’ housing facilities.

This study aims to reduce the human and financial risks associated with gas transmission by regularly monitoring pipeline performance, controlling situations and preventing disasters. Design/methodology/approach Facility managers can monitor the status of gas transmission lines in real-time by integrating sensor information into a building information modeling (BIM) 3D model. Using the Monitoring Panel plugin, coded in C# programming language and operated through Navisworks software, the model provides up-to-date information on pipeline safety and performance. Findings By collecting project information on the BIM and installing critical sensors, this approach allows facility manager to observe the real-time safety status of gas pipelines. If any risks of gas leakage or accidents are identified by the sensors, the BIM model quickly shows the location of the incident, enabling facility managers to make the best decisions to reduce financial and life risks. This intelligent gas transmission pipeline approach changes traditional risk management and inspection methods, minimizing the risk of explosion and gas leakage in the environment. Originality/value This research distinguishes itself from related work by integrating sensor data into a BIM model for real-time monitoring and providing facility managers with up-to-date safety information. By leveraging intelligent gas transmission pipelines, the system enables quick identification and location of potential hazards, reducing financial and human risks associated with gas transmission.

The exploration of churches’ features follows three main disciplines in building maintenance according to the Jabatan Kerja Raya Guideline for as-built buildings in Malaysia.\u0000\u0000\u0000Findings\u0000The findings of the study have then been tabulated to form a maintenance framework to recommend suitable maintenance practices on specific building components based on different materials. The paper argues that as places of worship, the assets of religious facilities are intangible compared to any other types of building that serve a tangible function (i.e. shelter, commercial or industrial operation). Throughout the exploration of their maintenance practices suggested by vast sources of literature, it is proven that the maintenance of churches is not as straightforward as merely remedying the defects, but it requires the maintenance to radically minimise any disturbance to their aesthetics, thus making maintenance a more challenging task at churches.\u0000\u0000\u0000Originality/value\u0000This paper proposes a maintenance framework for Anglican churches in Malaysia by categorising building disciplines and their corresponding building components, which supports future research to improve the maintenance practices of religious facilities.\u0000

The study aims to contribute to a better understanding of the direct and indirect linkage generated between these variables. Design/methodology/approach The research was designed under the quantitative approach, and an empirical study was carried out by applying a questionnaire to 300 companies located in Arequipa, Perú. Data processing was conducted using partial least squares structural equation modeling using Smart PLS software. Findings The results demonstrate the existence of a positive and significant direct relationship between cognitive social capital and innovation capacity. Furthermore, it was found that adaptability moderates this relationship, improving the results. The study shows that shared goals and culture facilitate the transfer of knowledge, which allows the exploration of new opportunities, and that the accommodation of business resources enables companies to respond quickly to new market requirements, promoting the capacity for innovation. Practical implications Organizations operate in an environment of intense competition. Therefore, developing the capacity for innovation is essential to stay competitive. Managers must strengthen cognitive relationships by sharing objectives and culture with their contacts, in addition to developing the ability to respond to market changes. This will stimulate the creation of new products and services. Originality/value This document adds value to the literature on social capital and innovation, demonstrating the importance of adaptability and its moderating effect on the relationship between cognitive social capital and innovation capacity. This has not been explored before. The research shows how these three variables act synergistically in a model, improving results, which is essential to achieve the competitiveness of companies in the tourism sector of an emerging country.
