The Multiple sclerosis patients need for family caregiver increasingly grows due to the progressive course of the disease, which worsens the symptoms over time. Family caregivers of this group of patients are subject to various challenges and needs in the area of patient care. Therefore, the present study was conducted to explain the social supportive needs of family caregivers of Multiple sclerosis patients. Methods and materials: This qualitative study was conducted in MS Society of Isfahan, Iran, through a conventional content analysis approach in 2019-2020. The participants were selected using a purposeful sampling method. The data was gathered using semi-structured interviews about care-related social supportive needs of Multiple sclerosis patient. After obtaining informed consent, interviews were conducted with 8 patients, 13 family caregivers, and 4 medical staff for approximately 30 to 60 minutes at the place agreed upon by the participants. All interviews were recorded using a recorder. After the interviews were reviewed several times, they were simultaneously transcripted, coded, and analyzed. Finally, Graneheim and Lundman (2004) conventional content analysis approach was used to analyze the data. Results: Findings of this study with regard to social supportive needs of family caregivers of multiple sclerosis patients were classified into 4 main categories, including \"providing interaction opportunities to reduce isolation\", \"empathetic interaction with peers and treatment team members\", \"financial aids and attracting support from charities\", and \"family support\", and 14 subcategories. conclusion: Findings of this study showed that among fundamental needs of these caregivers to be considered by health providers are providing interaction opportunities to reduce isolation, empathetic interaction with peers and treatment team members, financial aids and attracting support from charities, and support from family. Findings also showed that most of the family caregivers of multiple sclerosis patients do not receive adequate social and systemic support from health care providers and do not have access to support resources. In addition to providing access to proper support and social and systemic resources, the policy makers, health care providers, and nurses can, according to the findings of the present study, provide the required support programs to prepare these caregivers to play a more desirable role in caring for their patients, especially at home environment.","PeriodicalId":46374,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF REHABILITATION","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80353704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effect of various types of prosthetic feet has been analyzed in several studies during running. The purpose of this study was a biomechanical analysis of the influence of SACH and Dynamic-Response foot on several kinetic variables in the stance phase of running in individuals with unilateral transtibial amputation. Materials & Methods: In this semi-experimental study, 8 left foot transtibial amputees were included in this study using an available or easy sampling method. The target population was unilateral transtibial amputees who were able to run and the available population included left transtibial amputees who were referred to Kosar Rehabilitation Center in Tehran from 2008 to 2012. To adapt to the foot, each foot was used by the subjects for at least one week before the experiment. All subjects participated in 3 running evaluation sessions; 1 session involving the use of their own foot (familiarization session), 1 session involving the use of SACH foot, and 1 session involving the use of Dynamic foot. Only data from the 2 last sessions were used to compare both feet. Each subject runs in 12-meter walkway 3 times at a speed of 2.5 meters per second. The same running speed was chosen for the comparability of kinetic variables. Sport shoes were used to bring the test conditions closer to the actual running conditions. In each session, 3 successful trials were performed so that the foot was in full and perfect contact with the force plate. Kistler force plate and three-dimensional motion analysis Vicon system were used to collect kinetic and kinematic data, respectively. The motion and the force plate data were sampled simultaneously at 200 and 1000 Hz, respectively. The trajectories of the markers and analog data were filtered using the predicted mean square error adaptive filter in version 1.7 of the Vicon software package. The Kinetic variables were generated using the dynamic model of the Vicon Plug-in-Gait. The vertical ground reaction force was normalized for body weight. In the present study, 5 variables were selected for biomechanical analysis of feet. The maximum vertical ground reaction force, power, spring efficiency, ankle moments at the amputated leg, and the symmetry ratio (percentage) of the maximum vertical ground reaction force between the amputated leg and the intact leg were calculated. All values in each trial were averaged for each subject with each foot. A paired t-test and a Wilcoxon test were used to analyze the data based on normality (P ≤0.05). Results: In examining the normality of the data distribution, the results showed that the data of maximum power absorption of the ankle with the SACH foot and the maximum power absorption of the hip with the Dynamic-Response foot did not have a normal distribution and other variables had a normal distribution. Materials & Methods: In this cross-sectional study, cross-cultural adaptation was performed according to the international quality of life assessment protocol in three stages: standard forward translation, translation synthesis, and backward translation. The Persian UCLA, tegner activity scale (TAS), short-form health survey (SF-36) and international physical activity questionnaire (IPAQ) were completed by 103 participants (candidates for knee replacement surgery). The Persian UCLA questionnaire was re-completed by 66 participants in the retest session with an interval of 3-7 days. An intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to evaluate test-retest reliability. The standard error of measurement (SEM) was used to determine smallest detectable change (SDC) in scores. To evaluate convergent validity of the Persian UCLA, its correlation with TAS, SF-36, and IPAQ was assessed using Spearman’s correlation test. The ceiling and floor effects were also calculated. Results: In the Persian version, no special changes were made and no problem or ambiguity was reported by the respondents based on a pilot study. The type of activities mentioned in the original version was not changed either and none of the participants had difficulty understanding the items. The Mean±SD of UCLA scores were 2.98±1.37 in the test phase and 2.89±1.32 in the retest phase. Psychometric tests results showed acceptable test-retest reliability of the Persian UCLA (ICC=0.96, 95% CI=0.93-0.97). Given an SDC score of 0.50 at 95% confidence interval, it can be said that if the UCLA score be above or less than 0.50, there is an improvement or decline in the activity level of patients. Based on the results of Spearman correlation test, the Persian UCLA showed a strong correlation with TAS (rs=0.71, P<0.001), a moderate correlation with IPAQ (rs=0.58, P<0.001) and physical health summary component of SF-36 (rs=0.59, P<0.001), and a weak correlation with the mental health summary component of SF-36 (rs=0.39, P<0.001). The Persian UCLA questionnaire had no ceiling or floor effects. Conclusion: The Persian version of the UCLA questionnaire has acceptable reliability and validity for Iranian candidates for knee replacement surgery.","PeriodicalId":46374,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF REHABILITATION","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91032120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first few years of life are particularly important because vital development occurs in all domains. Early detection of developmental delays is essential in planning for early intervention. The aim of this study was to standardization of the Bayley scales of infant development in 1- 42 months old Iranian children. Materials & methods: The standardization sample for this study included 1700 children divided into 17 age groups. Each age group was composed of 100 participants. The normative information was based on a national sample representative of the Iran population for infants 1 through 42 months old in Iran Statistical Center. For each age group, the total raw scores of each scale including; cognitive, receptive and expressive communication, fine and gross motor, were converted to scaled scores with a mean of 10 and a standard deviation (SD) of 3. The composite scores (cognitive, language and motor) derived from sums of scales scaled scores. The composite scores are scaled to a metric with a mean of 100 and a SD of 15, and range from 40-160. Growth scores (range from 200-800, with a mean of 500 and a SD of 100), percentile ranks (range from 1-99, with 50 as the mean and median) and developmental age equivalent determind. Confidence intervals for all five scales and the relevant curves were drawn. In order to compare the level of development of the United State (normative sample) and Iranian children, their mean raw scores in five scales were compaired for difference in scores. Results: The Bayley was performed on 1744 children aged 0-42 months. The number of girls and boys were 908 (52.1%) and 836 (47.9%) respectively. Comparing the level of development of Iranian children with the US sample, the mean scores in 28 age groups were different (Pvalue<0.05). In seven age/scale, the US scores were higher than in Iranian sample (less than 6 months age band), and in 21 age/scale, the scores of Iranian sample were higher than the US (above 6 months age band). Their negative attitude towards blindness puts them at high-risk developing loneliness, social isolation, depression, anxiety, decreased life expentancy, no participation in group activities, and low levels of social support. Lack or no social skill reduces social acceptance and real feeling about themselves, which in turn reduces self-esteem in students with visual impaiments. Using appropriate therapeutic intervention with the aim of ensuring mental health as well as promoting self-esteem can prevent many psychological problems in these people. The acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is one of the third wave approaches to behavioral therapy that aims to control effectively the pain, suffering and stress that a person faces in the life. The acceptance and commitment therapy helps the person increases her psychological relations with herself and her feelings, trying to adapt to the environment and community instead of changing her cognition. The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the acceptance and commitment group therapy on self-esteem of students with visual impairment in Tehran City.
