A proper set of similarity transformations simplify the Navier-Stokes equations to non-linear ODEs with boundary conditions. The homotopy perturbation method is an efficient and stable method which is used to get solutions. Further, the results obtained are compared with the solution computed through an effective and efficient finite difference approach. The purpose of this analysis is to study the four different cases arise viz: suction, injection, mixed suction and mixed injection in this problem, along with magnetic effect and heat transfer characteristics. The results obtained are used to analyse the fluid velocity and temperature profiles, and the skin friction at the upper and lower plate by using both methods are displayed in the form of figures and tables. The semi-analytical solution obtained is in good agreement with the numerical solution.","PeriodicalId":46200,"journal":{"name":"Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2023-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84029257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The utilization of phase change materials (PCM) in the cooling system is a potential solution for minimizing active power requirements as well as for reducing the size of components of a vapor compression refrigeration VCR system. A prototype of an Air-PCM (T25™) heat exchanger was fabricated and tested in actual environmental conditions. Experimental trials using a salt hydrate as PCM have shown the maximum cooling effect of 2.05 kW when 75% of the PCM was solidified. Based on the results, it is found that PCM-based passive cooling has the potential to reduce the size (cooling capacity) of the air conditioner (AC) in the range of 13 to 46 %.","PeriodicalId":46200,"journal":{"name":"Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2023-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80753759","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experimental drying of carrot by RF assisted HP drying method was conducted to evaluate the effect of RF power on drying efficiency including drying rate and heating rate. The input drying parameters were drying air temperature of 45 o C, drying air velocity of 2.5 m/s and RF power of 0, 0.5 and 1.5 kW, in which, RF power of 0 was corresponding to HP drying method. The experimental drying results showed that in RF assisted HP drying method, the drying rate and heating rate were improved as compared to HP drying. The drying time was 480, 375 and 335 minutes corresponding to RF power of 0, 0.5 and 1.5 kW. The temperature of drying material reached the drying air temperature in about 25 and 30 minutes corresponding to RF power of 1.5 and 0.5 kW. While in HP drying, the temperature of drying material reached nearly the drying air temperature value in about 310 minutes. Besides, the comparison between the heat and mass equations solving results and experimental drying data was also carried out with the analysis results confirmed that the predicted data by numerically solving the heat and mass transfer equations could be used to predict the experimental data accurately.","PeriodicalId":46200,"journal":{"name":"Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2023-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85108657","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Khalid Naciri","doi":"10.5098/hmt.20.23","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5098/hmt.20.23","url":null,"abstract":"This paper presents an exact analytical solution to the extended Graetz problem in microchannels and microtubes, including axial heat conduction, viscous dissipation, and rarefaction effects for an imposed constant wall temperature. The flow in the microchannel or microtube is assumed to be hydrodynamically fully developed. At the same time, the first-order slip-velocity and temperature jump models represent the wall boundary conditions. The energy equation is solved analytically, and the solution is obtained in terms of Kummer functions with expansion constants directly determined from explicit expressions. The local and fully developed Nusselt numbers are calculated in terms of the Péclet number, Brinkman number, Knudsen number, and thermal properties of the fluid. The constant pressure drop along the streamwise direction per unit length is imposed at a constant value and independent of the flow parameters, unlike the usual practice of fixing the average velocity. This solution can be used as the reference solution for optimization problems to enhance heat transfer using a fixed pressure drop. It is found that for no viscous dissipation and negligible axial heat conduction, the local Nusselt number is larger for imposed pressure drop compared to imposed average velocity. The thermal entrance length increases as the Knudsen number or the degree of temperature jump increases for imposed pressure drop, while it is approximately unchangeable for imposed average velocity. The quantitative differences between the cases of imposed pressure drop and imposed average velocity in the average Nusselt number over the largest thermal entrance length are reduced with the increase of axial heat conduction or viscous dissipation effects. The fully developed Nusselt number is the same for imposed pressure drop and imposed average velocity.","PeriodicalId":46200,"journal":{"name":"Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2023-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81607240","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
