Based on a multi-theoretical stance and covering eight different topics linked to team functioning (e.g., shared values, team cohesion, team confidence), the PRO-TEAMS was perceived to be beneficial to the frisbee team. In what follows, we provide a detailed description of the workshop sessions and the program evaluation. Practitioners interested in adapting the PRO-TEAMS to other teams and levels of play are first encouraged to reflect on the context of their work.","PeriodicalId":45448,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sport Psychology in Action","volume":" 38","pages":"212 - 226"},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2023-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72380758","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, an elite coach usually experiences intense emotions requiring real emotional labor, which can influence the daily activity. The notion of emotional labor, stemming from sociology, is increasingly used in a psychological setting to understand the impact of emotions on the coach's activity. Based on a collaboration of three consecutive seasons during the Covid-19 pandemic with an elite handball coach, this article formulates recommendations for revaluing the place of emotional labor in the practice of sport psychology. Conversely, some scholars hold the view that organizations “are” the culture and are consistently and dynamically shaped by members. Drawing from 20 months of organizational culture work in a military sports team, we illustrate how SPPs might go beyond a functionalist approach to organizational culture work. We establish our own stance on the organizational culture debate and describe our work across five phases. We conclude by offering several recommendations for practitioners working on organizational culture.","PeriodicalId":45448,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sport Psychology in Action","volume":"366 1","pages":"158 - 169"},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2023-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74019642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sports psychology practitioners (SPPs) can form mentoring programs to foster supportive relationships between athletes. We authored this manuscript to showcase the development of a constellation mentoring program (CMP), a form of mentoring where student-athletes had multiple mentors, integrated within two Canadian varsity soccer (football) sport contexts. We begin by situating our university context and why the CMP, underpinned by the athletic career transition model and constellation theory, was needed to support first-year student-athletes’ transitions. We then introduce the stages of the program, beginning with its development, spanning its implementation, and ending with an evaluation to gauge its effectiveness. Each stage was informed using student-athletes’ experiences of their demands in their university contexts. We conclude with reflections on mentor training, preparatory planning, team-building activities, and making time for reflective practice to help guide SPPs interested in adapting this program for use within further contexts.","PeriodicalId":45448,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sport Psychology in Action","volume":"120 1","pages":"181 - 192"},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2023-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80699744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, more research should explore applying contemporary skill acquisition approaches, such as Nonlinear Pedagogy (NLP), to MI for skill development. From a NLP perspective, skilled behavior is predicated on coupling perceptual information and actual movement. This presents a challenge for stimulus-absent modes of practice such as MI. Recent findings indicate that although MI is stimulus-absent, suggesting it is incompatible with a NLP approach, it may also be sensitive to stimuli, potentially allowing for coupling to the environment. This paper aims to provide an alternative ecological dynamics explanation of MI to support the application of NLP principles to MI. Specific examples of NLP applied to MI are also outlined and discussed for practitioners.","PeriodicalId":45448,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sport Psychology in Action","volume":"84 1","pages":"170 - 180"},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2022-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89732452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
