The focus is on the analysis of the political system, especially on government fragmentation as one of the main features of proportional electoral rule and clientelism. In addition to political variables, economic factors are analysed as well. The obtained results show that reforms in Croatia were implemented during crises, that coalition governments are not conducive to reforms and that clientelism and corruption present significant obstacles for reform implementation in Croatia. Moreover, the results show that political cycles also have a significant effect, with reform activity slowing down as elections approach. This article contributes to the burgeoning debate on reform implementation (in the post-socialist societies) from the political economy perspective.","PeriodicalId":45161,"journal":{"name":"Drustvena Istrazivanja","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2021-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83569396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The book provides the reader with an overview of economic perspectives on sustainability. It establishes a social-ecological framework and an economic framework. Through the three temporal spectra, it integrates the past, the present and the future into the said framework, covering economics, ecology and other interdisciplinary studies and research necessary to ensure sustainability. The book \"Economics and Sustainability: Social-Ecological Perspectives\" offers a broad base of the knowledge of the social, economic, political, cultural and ecological transformation processes necessary to achieve sustainability. The necessity of carrying out the collective actions of the entire society and formal institutions in the form of global governance, which above all requires a knowledge of modern society and how it interacts with nature, is also pointed out in the book. The book is primarily intended for researchers in the field of sustainability and economics, students in master's studies and PhD students, as well as experts in sustainable management. Karl Bruckmeier is a professor at the Department of Sociology of National Research University – The Higher School of Economics, Moscow, Russia. Before this position, he was a professor at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, where he taught human ecology. The book is organised into three parts with 10 chapters. The core chapters of the first part of the book entitled \"The Sustainability Process: Context and Scope\" are \"The Policy Context of the Sustainability Discourse\" (Chapter One), \"The Historical Context: Sustainability in Modern Society\" (Chapter Two), and \"The Knowledge Context of the Sustainability Discourse\" (Chapter Three). In this part of the book, the author introduces various themes by which he shapes the base of the knowledge needed to understand the concept of sustainability and creates the platform of economic, ecological and interdisciplinary research. The policy context of sustainability addressing its political and historical context is given in this part of the book. The second part of the book entitled \"Economic and Ecological Knowledge in the Sustainability Process\" is structured into the following chapters: \"Economics Outright: Management of Natural Resources\" (Chapter Four), \"Environmental Economics: Orthodox Perspectives\" (Chapter Five), \"Ecological Economics: Critical Perspectives\" (Chapter Six), and \"Conflict, Relapse and Failure in the Sustainability Process: Neglected Problems\" (Chapter Seven). This part is dedicated to the presentation of an overview of the core economic subject matter important for sustainable development, such as natural resource manage","PeriodicalId":45161,"journal":{"name":"Drustvena Istrazivanja","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2021-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85934170","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first part of this research is dedicated to bibliometric analysis of DI since its conception in 1992, while the second part discusses the internationalisation of scientific journals in Croatia, relying on the critical analysis of relevant literature and the bibliometric characteristics of DI. The results of this research call into question the relevance of the existing scientific publishing policy to contribute to quality research papers and their internationalisation. The research provides implications for both editorial and publishing policies, as well as science policies in general.","PeriodicalId":45161,"journal":{"name":"Drustvena Istrazivanja","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2021-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84981019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sample consisted of 744 first-year high school students from the City of Zagreb. Quality of life was measured with an adapted version of the Kidscreen-27, and exercise motivation with the EMI-2. The results suggest that adolescents experience positive quality of life and their exercise motivation derives from intrinsic and extrinsic motives. Higher levels of male adolescents' quality of life, compared to females', predominantly result from a greater sense of physical well-being, more pleasant emotions and moods, more positive school and family environment, and the ability to plan and spend leisure time. Normal-weight adolescents are more satisfied with their physical activity and health than overweight ones. Male adolescents are more driven by enjoyment, challenge, competition, strength, and social motives (belonging, pressure, and recognition), unlike females, who exercise more because of weight control. Normal-weight adolescents are more motivated for exercise by enjoyment than overweight ones, who are more driven by weight control. The implications of these findings were discussed.","PeriodicalId":45161,"journal":{"name":"Drustvena Istrazivanja","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2021-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73691509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our research demonstrates that the ability to manage one's emotions is associated with lower levels of materialism and compulsive buying. We also show that materialism functions as the mechanism underlying the emotional intelligence – compulsive buying relationship. Similarly, the ability to understand one's emotions was found to be negatively related to compulsive buying. Contrary to expectations, the path between the understanding of one's emotions and materialism was found to be non-significant, suggesting that the link between emotional intelligence and materialism might not always be direct. As expected, materialism was positively linked to compulsive buying. Our research contributes to the relevant literature with a new antecedent of materialism, namely emotional intelligence.","PeriodicalId":45161,"journal":{"name":"Drustvena Istrazivanja","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2021-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90985045","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data were collected by questionnaire, using a convenient sampling method. The results of structural equation modeling show that employees are more likely to identify with the organization if they perceive it as fair and prestigious, and are therefore more engaged at work. Perceived organizational justice and external prestige shape positive experiences of the organization and meet the employee’s need for the development of a positive self-image, thus leading to identification of the individuals with the organization and, indirectly, to a greater employee engagement. In addition to the theoretical contribution, this study's findings can also be used in organizational development interventions planning.","PeriodicalId":45161,"journal":{"name":"Drustvena Istrazivanja","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2021-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74936934","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The quantitative data was derived from the base Scopus, and they were complemented with structural interviews conducted with 10 scientists. The purpose of the research is to describe the co-authorship of the addressed groups of scientists and to determine the repercussions of the published articles in the scientific community. The results warn about insufficient representation of international co-authorships and about the low representation of authors from post-socialist countries in internationally relevant journals, which reflects on their low citation and visibility in a wider scientific community.","PeriodicalId":45161,"journal":{"name":"Drustvena Istrazivanja","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2021-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81433002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data was collected online from 1621 first-year university students in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania and Slovakia. The AUDIT, self-regulation questionnaire and questions regarding DNB were used. DNB were found to be positively associated with drinking across all the samples. The associations between DNB and alcohol use as well as between alcohol use and negative consequences were stronger among students with lower SR. The protective effect of SR on alcohol use and consequences combined with the theory of social influence may improve intervention accuracy and make it a promising target for intervention among young adults.","PeriodicalId":45161,"journal":{"name":"Drustvena Istrazivanja","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2021-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84288435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was conducted on a sample of 44 participants aged 32 to 80 years who participated in the multidisciplinary program for chronic pain management at the Institute for Pain Management of the Clinical Medical Center Osijek. Pain intensity was measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS); the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) was used to measure anxiety and depression; while catastrophizing was measured using the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS). There was a moderate positive correlation between anxiety, depression, and pain intensity in patients with chronic non-malignant pain; a positive correlation between anxiety, depression, pain intensity, and catastrophic factors; and a reduction of anxiety, depression, pain intensity and catastrophization at the end of a multidisciplinary chronic pain treatment program. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the relation between emotional distress, cognitions and pain intensity in patients with chronic non-malignant pain.","PeriodicalId":45161,"journal":{"name":"Drustvena Istrazivanja","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2021-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72527139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
