Therefore, it is an urgent task to study the problem of optimal scheduling of flow shop. In this study, the problem of optimal scheduling of the flow shop was taken as the main research subject, the machining sequence and maximum completion time were taken as the key points, a method of optimal scheduling by genetic algorithm (GA) was proposed, and a mathematical model for optimal scheduling of the flow shop based on GA was established. The optimal processing sequence of the six jobs in the production was obtained: 2–1–6–5–4–3; the average completion time was 381.6[Formula: see text]min, and the optimal solution frequency was 0.8. Moreover, the total processing time of the GA-based flow shop was shorter than that of the traditional flow shop. This work provides a new route for the optimal scheduling of flow shop.","PeriodicalId":44935,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"1-13"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46009797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

High surface energy of nontextured surface limits its wettability. Texturing of a surface imparts low surface energy which proves to be favorable for enhancing the overall surface hydrophobicity. Research and analysis done to fathom an optimum method by which surfaces accomplish superhydrophobicity is still miniscule. It is challenging to fabricate superhydrophobic surfaces by micro-machining due to the expansive range of the features involved. To minimize the exorbitant costs incurred due to trial-and-error-based experimentation, a mathematical model with [Formula: see text]90% accuracy has been developed in this study, which would help determine the closest ranges of values of parameters like micro-dimple diameter and areal density responsible for inducing superhydrophobic properties on a micro-dimpled specimen. The exceptionality of this study lies in the fact that though mathematical models are available for textures like micro-grooves and micro-pillars, but miniscule research is available for micro-dimpled surfaces with hardness greater than 55 HRC.","PeriodicalId":44935,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Systems","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42694172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although many methods are available to compute the AS/RS throughput rate, the method recommended by the Material Handling Institute (MHI) is more suitable for real or practical cases. This method assumes (i) randomized storage with constant vertical and horizontal speeds of the S/R machine, and (ii) simultaneous travel in both directions. We consider a new simplified and more efficient approach for MHI’s method to predict the throughput performance of the AS/RS.","PeriodicalId":44935,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Systems","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45447803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To bring the proposed model closer to real applications, the possibility of occurring several types of assignable causes during the production cycle is taken into account. Besides, a noncentral chi-square chart is used for simultaneous monitoring of the process mean and variability parameters. Moreover, it is assumed that both time-to-failure and time-to-shift are Weibull distributed random variables. In other words, the system may suddenly fail and goes to an out-of-control condition with two different increasing rates including the failure rate function and the shift occurrence rate function. Hence, to improve the system reliability, a nonuniform sampling scheme is developed in which a same integrated shift occurrence rate is obtained for all intervals. The goal of the model is to minimize the expected total cost per time unit, subject to some statistical constraints. Ultimately, three comparative studies are given to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed model. The first one indicates that a nonuniform sampling scheme reduces the expected total cost and the length of out-of-control period. The second one confirms that considering the system failure not only increases the length of in-control period but also improves the economic feature of the production system. The third one shows that using chi-square chart decreases the quality loss cost which in turn decreases the expected total cost.","PeriodicalId":44935,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Systems","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44945944","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
