The integration of efforts from both fields promises progress through acquisition of information from tissues, cells, and organs through non-invasive methods of assessment. Here we investigate the ability of a hyperspectral device in extracting data from tissues through the wavelength spectrum, in foreseeing its potential in clinical diagnostics by simplifying methods of examination by clinicians in detecting corneal injuries. Hyperspectral imaging using 400 to 1000nm visible wavelength was used to scan five porcine eyes (injured and non-injured). Images were saved in three dimensional images of rows, columns, and depth slices at 1200 to 1300×804×604 and were processed. All laboratory works were performed in accordance with the general risk assessment of University of Strathclyde. In our results, analysis of the images reveals significant cue between 500 to 800nm bands in differentiating between injured and non-injured parts of the eye.","PeriodicalId":448668,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114753190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Still, the boarder on maximum number of signatures is limiting. Quasi orthogonal complete complementary codes allow higher maximum number of signatures in exchange for a slight loss of some ideality of correlation properties. This article focuses on the analysis of these codes and identifies the shifts of broken ideal correlation properties as these vary for different element dimensions.","PeriodicalId":448668,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125337015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike the majority of existing approaches for road GPR data processing that are mainly used for extraction of layer profile information, the proposed method focuses on automated identification of significant deviations in subsurface structure and material properties. It is based on the detection of variations in intensity trends of longitudinal lines of interpolated B-scans that are characterized by deviations above a defined threshold. The outputs include mapped defects and deterioration areas together with the locations of detected changes in road structure design.","PeriodicalId":448668,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134224132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In such scenes, a halo can be produced by gradient reversal, and color information is easily damaged. In this paper, we propose an exposure fusion algorithm that does not suffer from any artifacts in extremely high dynamic range scenes. Using the HSV color model, gradient reversal is suppressed in the Value component, and color information is preserved in the other components. Experimental results show that these two artifacts are effectively avoided, and all of the scene's details are preserved.","PeriodicalId":448668,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115691165","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we propose an optimization algorithm that maximizes the energy efficiency. We apply the proposed optimization algorithm for both indoor- and outdoor users. The energy efficiency optimization is carried under various network conditions such as maximizing the bit rate, minimizing the transmit power and minimizing the interference. We use the dual decomposition technique to find the optimal solution in terms of energy efficiency, under the condition for optimal power allocation. Our results reveal an increase in terms of energy efficiency by applying our algorithm. Furthermore they show a higher energy efficiency achieved under the dynamic power allocation compared to a static power allocation.","PeriodicalId":448668,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121876022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent high profile MOOCs have shown that e-learning approaches can attract large numbers of students to study subjects such as electronic circuits. However, high dropout rates and concerns about quality mean that it is unlikely that e-learning techniques alone can meet the industrial demand for high calibre engineers. The aim of this work was to understand if the use of a blended learning approach would be a better option and enhance student abilities to analyse electrical and electronic circuits by providing them with additional e-learning resources. It was found that was possible to match the format of e-lectures to lectures to capture well known teaching methods that increase student learning. Student engagement with the e-lectures was very high and they have given good feedback about their experience of using them.","PeriodicalId":448668,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130395820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The developed technical approach uses thermal images to detect humans based on their body heat. A special focus was on the behaviour of the system placed under attack when an intruder tries to overcome the system. The performance was evaluated in empirical testing with a test group, selected according to their physical characteristics. The test scenarios cover changing appearances of individuals and possibly carried objects into the mantrap. Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curves show how the developed system performs. This work concludes with a discussion about a number of challenges and gives an outlook for possible solutions.","PeriodicalId":448668,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130257822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
