In addition, we investigate the direction of causation between environmental degradation and its drivers and the technological effect of banking sector development on environmental degradation. We rely on a balanced panel dataset of 11 ECOWAS nations from 1990 to 2019. We present the following conclusions using the AMG estimator and the Driscoll–Kraay panel regression model. First, banking sector development reduces environmental degradation. Second, banking sector development has a deleterious technological effect on environmental quality. Thirdly, population and affluence were found to significantly promote environmental degradation, while the impact of technology was inconclusive. We further demonstrate a unidirectional causation association between the development of the banking sector and environmental degradation using the Dumitrescu and Hurlin causality analysis. Based on the study conclusions, numerous policy ramifications have been suggested for the ECOWAS nations to mitigate environmental degradation.
","PeriodicalId":44859,"journal":{"name":"Future Business Journal","volume":"75 4 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.4,"publicationDate":"2023-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138629612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

People freely express their views, moods, activities, likes/dislikes on social media about diverse topics. Rather than surveys and other structured data gathering methods, text data mining is now commonly used by businesses to go through their unstructured text in the form of emails, blogs, tweets, likes, etc. to find out how their customers feel about their company and their products/services. This paper reports upon a study using Twitter (recently renamed to “X”) data to determine if meaningful and actionable information could be gained from such social media data in regard to pandemic issues and how that information compares to a traditional survey. In early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and forced colleges to move classes to an online format. While there is considerable literature in regard to using social media to communicate geo-political issues and in particular pandemics, there is not a study using social media to explore public sentiment in regard to COVID’s forcing online education upon the public. In this study, text data mining was used to gain some insight into the feeling of Twitter users in regard to the effect of COVID-19 and the switch to online education in colleges. This study found that Twitter data mining did produce actionable information similar to the traditional survey, and the study is important since its results may influence organizations to explore the use of Twitter (and possibly other social media) to obtain people’s sentiments instead of (or in addition to) traditional surveys and other traditional means of gathering such information. This paper demonstrates both the process of text data mining social media and its application to current real-world issues.
","PeriodicalId":44859,"journal":{"name":"Future Business Journal","volume":"280 1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.4,"publicationDate":"2023-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138572534","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results show that the research focused on four thematic research clusters, namely (a) entrepreneurship and crisis management (b) social entrepreneurship and collaborative networks (c) entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial intentions, and (d) entrepreneurship and adaptation measures to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our analysis shows that while the COVID-19 pandemic has had significant negative impacts on entrepreneurship, innovation, digital transformation, resilience and adaptability, dynamic capabilities and organisational learning, collaborative networks, government support and customer-centric approaches enabled entrepreneurs to navigate the crisis. The review highlights the role of digital technologies, self-efficacy, organisational resilience, social entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education in promoting small business development in the post-pandemic era.
","PeriodicalId":44859,"journal":{"name":"Future Business Journal","volume":"14 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.4,"publicationDate":"2023-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138568322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In pursuing this goal, the literature has relied on different models, estimators, and data sets. One such application is spatial models to estimate growth, but it remains rare in the literature. Such models allow us to determine whether the interaction among countries is significant. Additionally, it is possible to observe efforts to mimic different variables among countries thanks to indirect (spillover) effects. Therefore, using spatial models and data sets on founding OECD countries for the period 1996–2019, this article tests alternative weight matrices to clarify the mutual relationship among countries. The findings reveal that spatial models contribute to estimations by improving parametric results. Empirical evidence found that there are spatial interactions among countries. The spillover effect of technology growth is insignificant, while the direct effect is significantly positive. Investment growth is significantly positive except spillover effect. Human capital growth is significantly positive in any sense.
","PeriodicalId":44859,"journal":{"name":"Future Business Journal","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.4,"publicationDate":"2023-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138564125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among the key findings, the causal order between wholesale and retail commodity prices flows unidirectionally forward from the wholesale to the retail level across all markets. Wholesale and retail prices for Uganda’s staple foods are interlinked in all markets, and spatially separated markets are also well integrated. The Wald test revealed asymmetric price transmission (APT) in speed alone for the pairs wholesale and retail prices of matoke in Kampala, and wholesale prices of matoke in Mbarara with Kampala retail prices, both APT in magnitude and APT in speed for the pairs wholesale and retail prices of beans in Kampala, wholesale and retail prices of maize in Masindi, and wholesale prices of beans in Masindi with wholesale and retail prices in Kampala. We also found that in the long run, retail prices respond more strongly to wholesale price increases than decreases, an implication of positive APT in the marketing supply chain of Uganda’s major staples. This may be linked to information asymmetry between traders and consumers, traders’ adjustment costs, production levels, inventory management, and the market power of retailers. We thus concluded that final consumers are more likely to experience an increase rather than a decrease in the prices of staples at the retail level, while retailers are more likely to benefit from price decreases at the wholesale level.
","PeriodicalId":44859,"journal":{"name":"Future Business Journal","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.4,"publicationDate":"2023-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138539958","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Policymakers account for the provision of quality service in terms of subscription numbers. However, little explains the impacts of these dynamics. Drawing up the service quality model, theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and customer loyalty model, the study examined the influence of service quality, technical quality (TQ), functional quality (FQ), and reputational quality (RQ) on customer loyalty (CL). Specifically, the study focuses on moderating gender differences to enhance robustness. Data were collected from 379 respondents and analysed using structural equation modelling (SEM) with smart PLS (partial least square). The results suggested that customer assessment of reputational quality was vital in m-payment services for both males and females. Female customers depicted a more significant positive relationship than male customers, meaning the former are more loyal than the latter. Technical quality negatively influences attitudinal customer loyalty, while functional quality affects behavioural loyalty. The study contributes towards understanding the role of the dimensions of service quality (dSQ), customer loyalty and gender differences. Theoretically, the foundation of this research adds up to the consideration of the moderation effect of gender and their differential assessment of technical and functional quality as predictors of customer loyalty. Implication to managers is improving marketing strategies, and policymakers provide a more enabling environment for m-payment service.
","PeriodicalId":44859,"journal":{"name":"Future Business Journal","volume":"22 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.4,"publicationDate":"2023-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138539989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research methodology employed in this study adopts a descriptive and analytical approach, aiming to comprehensively examine the multifaceted phenomenon of corporate governance within the context of private banks. The purpose of this study was to assess the comprehension of banking governance and its effectiveness in achieving important objectives. This investigation was undertaken to gain insights into the current state of banking governance, its implementation, and the challenges it faces. By conducting this research, we aimed to provide a clearer understanding of the issues surrounding banking governance and offer recommendations for improvement and finding solutions. The findings of our study indicate that the sample participants have a clear comprehension of governance as an efficient system. However, we identified significant obstacles in the implementation of governance and its objectives, primarily stemming from legal challenges and the overall environment. We also noted that success for private banks is contingent on meeting governance requirements, but the banking sector faces challenges both internally and externally, which render control systems less effective. Furthermore, we found that the Basel standards for banking supervision, through the implementation of supervision and control procedures, seek to enhance solvency and risk management, along with prudential measures. These findings are crucial as they provide a roadmap for strengthening governance practices in the banking sector, which is vital for its stability and effective operation. By addressing the issues identified in this study, stakeholders can work toward achieving a more robust and effective banking governance framework.Please confirm if the author names are presented accurately and in the correct sequence (given name, middle name/initial, family name).
