Based on linear arterial system models, the authors evaluated commonly used time and frequency domain methods for the calculation of compliance. The model is used as a means of gaining insight into a therapeutic intervention with this population. Optimization techniques are used to adjust model parameters, such that model data fit actual data. Actual data is taken from a set of triplets, two of which have varying degrees of spastic: cerebral palsy and one is without disability. The author compares five sets of data, one from the normal triplet and two each from the subjects with spasticity. Data from the subjects with spasticity is taken before and after vertical stimulation similar to that which one would receive while on horseback. The model parameters show several trends. First, the amplitude of the active forces are reduced to more normal values after vestibular stimulation. Second, the duration of these forces is longer after stimulation than before.","PeriodicalId":448427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 21st Annual Northeast Bioengineering Conference","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128370572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After analyzing the standard methods for complex impedance measurements, a new system realization was proposed. The approach is based on the four electrode impedance measurement method, using synchronous sampling demodulation with one analog channel. Realization of this method, based on the newest generation of highly integrated electronic components for generating sinusoidal signals of arbitrary frequencies, is simple and provides accurate measurements. This approach enables complete microprocessor control of measurements. It has the potential to be fully integrated into a hand-held instrument.","PeriodicalId":448427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 21st Annual Northeast Bioengineering Conference","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128377623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most reconstruction methods presented so far, first define a three-dimensional matrix representing the final volume. In this volume the measured 2D data sets are placed. Then the object is reconstructed by filling the \"empty space\" using different types of interpolation. The results obtained this way are satisfactory, if the 2D data sets are parallel to each other, i.e. if each measured data point can be identified with one element of the 3D matrix. This corresponds to identifying each element of the matrix with one cubic voxel in space. However in some applications the acquired data does not come in parallel slices. In this case the measured points have to be fitted into cubic voxels by interpolation. This however introduces some non-quantifiable error. Furthermore it is not very efficient in terms of CPU time and use of memory. This paper describes a new approach to 3D reconstruction based on non-cubic voxels. It is well adapted to the specific properties of our data acquisition system in echocardiography but can be used with any acquisition system that is based on a rotation.","PeriodicalId":448427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 21st Annual Northeast Bioengineering Conference","volume":"251 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133674365","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The power density spectrum of the myoelectric signal undergoes a compression towards low frequency as a function of time during a sustained contraction. This compression has been measured using the spectral parameter, median frequency. Normal median frequency values were established for the biceps, triceps and deltoid during a pilot study. The triceps has a lower median frequency slope with fatigue which suggests that this muscle may have more type I fibers (fatigue resistant) than the biceps and deltoids.","PeriodicalId":448427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 21st Annual Northeast Bioengineering Conference","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133488168","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
