A steel pipe is studied that has 3 m length, 52.3 mm diameter and 3 mm thick wall. Few examples of joint shapes are proposed. The first of them uses two extra plates that are perpendicular to the circular section. They are both in the shape of an isosceles triangle with 100 mm long and 3 mm thick sides. The second option uses four of those triangle plates. The next step is to provide perforation only in the joint area as well as along the whole element. The last option is to use a short smaller pipe inside the base pipe. Results have been compared to each other and conclusions are summarised.","PeriodicalId":448014,"journal":{"name":"Computer Assisted Mechanics and Engineering Sciences","volume":"45 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127991362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Design variables are discrete and/or continuous. The design of truss structures is optimized by an efficient optimization algorithm called Jaya. The main feature of Jaya is that it does not require setting algorithm-specific parameters. The algorithm has a very simple formulation in which the basic idea is to approach the best solution and escape from the worst solution [6]. Analyses of structures are performed by a finite element code in MATLAB. The effectiveness of the Jaya algorithm is demonstrated using two benchmark examples: planar truss 18-bar and spatial truss 39-bar, and compared with results in references.","PeriodicalId":448014,"journal":{"name":"Computer Assisted Mechanics and Engineering Sciences","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132998131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Numerical integration for higher-order finite element approximation was chosen as an example algorithm. To perform computational tests, we use a non-linear geometric element and solve the convection-diffusion-reaction problem. For calculations, a Tesla K20m graphics card based on Kepler architecture and Radeon r9 280X based on Tahiti XT architecture were used. The results of computational experiments were compared with the theoretical performance of both GPUs, which allowed an assessment of actual performance. Our research gives suggestions for choosing the optimal design of algorithms as well as the right hardware for such a resource-demanding task.","PeriodicalId":448014,"journal":{"name":"Computer Assisted Mechanics and Engineering Sciences","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123679636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, the main idea of the implemented method is based on the structure of the so-called “edit distance matrix” (similarity matrix). Elements of this matrix are filled with a formula based on Levenshtein distances between sequences of sentences. The Levenshtein distance algorithm (LDA) is used as a replacement for various implementations of stemming or lemmatization methods. Additionally, the proposed algorithm is fast, precise, and may be implemented for analyzing very large documents (e.g., books, diploma works, newspapers, etc.). Moreover, it seems to be versatile for the most common European languages such as Polish, English, German, French and Russian. The presented tool is intended for all employees and students of the university to detect the level of similarity regarding analyzed documents. Results obtained in the paper were confirmed in the tests shown in the article.","PeriodicalId":448014,"journal":{"name":"Computer Assisted Mechanics and Engineering Sciences","volume":"2014 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133883424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The inverse problem was formulated, for the solution of which a population heuristics (Ant Colony Optimization) was used. In the inverse task, selected parameters important for the cell operation were reconstructed based on relatively easy to obtain temperature measurements within heat exchangers and appropriate measurements of electrical quantities. The heuristics used, reconstructs the estimated variables, minimizing the differences between data from the measurements and data calculated in the model for their determined values. Since inverse tasks, as ill-conditioned problems, are characterized by high sensitivity to measurement errors, the tests began with calculations based on numerically generated data in order to fully maintain control of their disturbances.","PeriodicalId":448014,"journal":{"name":"Computer Assisted Mechanics and Engineering Sciences","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125523985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The FD rules can be of arbitrary degree and in this paper the rules are applied up to fourth degree. It is shown that the method presented in this paper gives better results in comparison to the standard version of the DG method. The method is based on discontinuous approximation, which means that it can be constructed using arbitrary local basis functions in each finite element. It is quite easy to incorporate some global basis functions in the approximation field and this is also shown in the paper. The paper is illustrated with a couple of two-dimensional examples.","PeriodicalId":448014,"journal":{"name":"Computer Assisted Mechanics and Engineering Sciences","volume":"136 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121110711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The DG method is formulated in this paper with a non-zero mesh skeleton width, which leads to a version of the method called in this paper the interface discontinuous Galerkin (IDG) method. In this formulation, the mesh skeleton has a finite volume and special finite elements are used for discretization. The skeleton spatial calculations are performed using the finite difference or mid-values formulas which are based on the shape functions of the neighbouring finite elements. The Dirichlet boundary conditions are applied using a non-zero width of the material between the outer boundary and a finite element aligned with the boundary. Next, the paper discusses the mesh refinement of hp type. In the IDG method, the mesh does not have to be conforming. The Zienkiewicz-Zhu (ZZ) error indicator is adapted in the IDG method for the purpose of mesh refinement. The paper is illustrated with two-dimensional examples, in which the mesh refinement for an elliptic problem is performed.","PeriodicalId":448014,"journal":{"name":"Computer Assisted Mechanics and Engineering Sciences","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133329571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
