However, the complexity of such infrastructure is a considerable challenge. It is common to see that multi-cloud infrastructure is divided into several smaller units to facilitate the management. The division criteria are geolocation, cost, security, etc. Therefore, how to manage application deployment in such partitioned environment is an intriguing topic of multi-cloud management. We propose a policy-based deployment in multi-cloud infrastructure, which contains policy evaluation and TOSCA standard based orchestration. The system architecture is introduced and a case study with two empirical scenarios is discussed. The results indicate that the proposed policy-based deployment is useful in finding suitable resource and improving deployment efficiency.","PeriodicalId":446929,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Cloud Computing and Services Science","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114734494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, we use a strategy to limit the velocity of particles and adopt a discrete position updating equation to solve the multi-objective time and cost optimization model. Second, we adopt a Gaussian mutation operation to update the personal best position and the external archive, which can retain the diversity and convergence accuracy of Pareto optimal solutions. Finally, the computational complexity of IMODPSO is compared with three other state-of-the-art algorithms. We validate the computational speed, the number of solutions found and the generational distance of IMODPSO and find that the new algorithm outperforms the three other algorithms with respect to all three metrics.","PeriodicalId":446929,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Cloud Computing and Services Science","volume":"102 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124302284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A possible approach to cope with the size of such data centers is to identify VMs exhibiting a similar behavior. Existing literature demonstrated that clustering together VMs that show a similar behavior may improve the scalability of both monitoring andmanagement of a data center. However, available techniques suffer from a trade-off between accuracy and time to achieve this result. Throughout this paper we propose a different approach where, instead of an unsupervised clustering, we rely on classifiers based on deep learning techniques to assigna newly deployed VMs to a cluster of already-known VMs. The two proposed classifiers, namely DeepConv and DeepFFT use a convolution neural network and (in the latter model) exploits Fast Fourier Transformation to classify the VMs. Our proposal is validated using a set of traces describing the behavior of VMs from a realcloud data center. The experiments compare our proposal with state-of-the-art solutions available in literature, demonstrating that our proposal achieve better performance. Furthermore, we show that our solution issignificantly faster than the alternatives as it can produce a perfect classification even with just a few samples of data, making our proposal viable also toclassify on-demand VMs that are characterized by a short life span.","PeriodicalId":446929,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Cloud Computing and Services Science","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126923671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a federated cloud storage architecture which involves multiple cloud storage providers, both the complexity and the importance of trust management increases drastically. A trust relation is established between a data owner and a cloud storage provider when the data owner subscribes to the service and service level agreements (SLAs) are established. In practice, this trust relation is seldom revised, only when serious infractions are discovered and made public. In this paper, we evaluate the potential of continuous and client-centric trust monitoring of cloud storage services. This approach leverages upon the statistical correlations between black-box performance metrics and reported white-box metrics, and identifies significant deviations between both. We evaluate in terms of (a) the effectiveness of correlating black-box and white-box measurements, and (b) the incurred performance overhead of the approach to continuously monitor for trust.","PeriodicalId":446929,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Cloud Computing and Services Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129417461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Even though many people believe that “Cloud” is just another buzzword for utility computing, this new computing paradigm is not only changing the design of modern computing platforms in technical level, but it also impels, from the market perspective, the creation of new value chains and business models. Beyond the great advantages of cloud technologies for scalability, elasticity and low operational cost, there are still many technical complexities and limitations on provisioning and management of applications with high QoS demands that disallow the wide adoption of cloud solutions. In this paper we present a novel cloud platform capable to support real-time interactive applications considering their full lifecycle including service engineering, SLA negotiation, provisioning and monitoring. This platform has been designed and implemented consolidating management and control of the infrastructure and services at all points in the value chain to support real-time interaction focusing on its business and commercial orientation.","PeriodicalId":446929,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Cloud Computing and Services Science","volume":"122 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127972319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The notion of trustworthiness, though, is actually subject to individual interpretation, e.g. organizations require confidence about how their business critical data is handled whereas end-users may be more concerned about the usability. These concerns manifest as trustworthiness requirements towards modern apps and services. Understanding which Software Quality Attributes (SQA) foster trustworthiness thus becomes an increasingly important piece of knowledge for successful software development. To this end, this paper provides a first attempt to identify SQA, which contribute to trustworthiness. Based on a survey of the literature, we provide a structured overview on SQA and their contribution to trustworthiness. We also identify potential gaps with respect to attributes whose relationship to trustworthiness is understudied such as e.g. accessibility, level of service, etc. Further, we observe that most of the literature studies trustworthiness from a security perspective while there exist limited contributions in studying the social aspects of trustworthiness in computing. We expect this work to contribute to a better understanding of which attributes and characteristics of a software system should be considered to build trustworthy systems.","PeriodicalId":446929,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Cloud Computing and Services Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130786810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In bioinformatics, many tools and databases requiring large resources for processing and storing enourmous amounts of data are provided by physically separate institutions. This article treats the problem of task scheduling in BioNimbus, a federated cloud infrastructure for bioinformatics applications. We propose a scheduling algorithm based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to perform an efficient distribution for finding the best resources to execute each required task. We developed experiments with real biological data executing on BioNimbus, formed by three cloud providers executing in Amazon EC2. The obtained results show that DynamicAHP makes a significant improvement in the makespan time of bioinformatics applications executing in BioNimbus, when compared to the Round Robin algorithm.","PeriodicalId":446929,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Cloud Computing and Services Science","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126962842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite undoubted advantages in term of scalability and cost savings, today there are still issues regarding its massive diffusion due to portability of applications. To address this problem, in this paper we propose a new approach for the development of portable applications for Platform as a Service (PaaS) systems. This is based on a Java library exposing a vendor independent API that provides an abstract intermediation layer for the most important middleware services typically offered by PaaS systems (e.g., NoSQL services, message queues and memcache). The current version of our library supports the portability of applications across Java platforms for Google App EngineandWindows Azure . We have conducted some experiments especially focusing on evaluating the performance degradation introduced by our library when executing an application on both PaaS. The experiments demonstrate that such degradation is not significant.","PeriodicalId":446929,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Cloud Computing and Services Science","volume":"397 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123390668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
