When local production exceeds local consumption, this voltage rise may lead to overvoltage, i.e. violation of the EN 50160 standard. A number of solutions have been developed to mitigate the over voltage, thus increasing the hosting capacity of the LV network without violating EN 50160. Equipping a distribution transformer with On-Load Tap Changer (OLTC), can also solve the overvoltage problem in the LV network. A challenge for the OLTC control is to deal with different voltage profiles of downstream lines of the LV network. This paper evaluates a classical OLTC-based control to mitigate the overvoltage problem and analyzes the possible voltage violation at downstream of the LV network in a rural European LV network.","PeriodicalId":446482,"journal":{"name":"2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116756545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed SFCL improves the fault ride through (FRT) capability of DFIG and prevents the RSC from damaging fault currents. Because of using superconductor DC coil, there is not any power loss during fault or normal operation of system. The proposed SFCL does not have any considerable affect in wind turbine's operation during normal condition. It is not necessary to use any measurement and control systems, too. The SFCL returns to its normal operation after fault clearing in a very short time without any switching device. The modeling of proposed SFCL is presented based on analytical analysis. Simulation of a 2 MW 690 V DFIG with and without using the proposed SFCL is carried out by PSCAD/EMTDC software. The results show the excellent operation of proposed SFCL in improving the FRT of DFIG based wind turbine.","PeriodicalId":446482,"journal":{"name":"2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130878260","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The lightning performance can be difficult to understand without using simulation programs. PSCAD is powerful software was selected to develop the appropriate data required to investigate this phenomena. In this paper, a model of 500 kV transmission line is developed when lightning stroke hits the shield wire directly at the mid-span sag location of transmission line. This study emphasizes on lightning performance when stroke hits either top of transmission tower or position of maximum sag locations between towers. In addition, the effects of lightning strokes on overvoltage along transmission system are studied. The results revealed that the sag of transmission line has a considerable influence on fast transient flashover and induced voltages occurrences across line insulators as well as phase lines.","PeriodicalId":446482,"journal":{"name":"2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130043026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, a clear need exists to identify how the results of these pilots can be evaluated. By modeling the dynamic behavior of the load, the relationship between the change in the consumers' load and the factors that induce that change can be clarified. In this paper, the results of the Dutch smart grid pilot project Your Energy Moment are analyzed. The aggregated load of the installed smart appliances, i.e. smart washing machines, is modeled using multiple regression. Subsequently, the same modeling approach is applied to model the washing machine load of a reference group not taking part in the pilot. The differences provide insight into the effect of the so-called smart grid input variables used to stimulate load shifting. The latter is considered essential input for the implementation of load management strategies that aim at affecting the consumption patterns of end-consumers.","PeriodicalId":446482,"journal":{"name":"2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125360542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Hybrid Renewable Energy Complementary Systems introductory was to overcome the intermittency during the energy harvesting process. Therefore, solar photovoltaic and wind turbine generator has been seen as one of the most promising Hybrid Renewable Energy Complementary System to overcome the intermittency compare to a typical Hybrid Renewable Energy System. The integration of solar photovoltaic and wind turbine generator as Hybrid Renewable Energy Complementary System can play an important role to reduce the dependency on the fossil fuel for electricity power generation and are seen as a solution to improve the shortage of electricity due to increasing demand. Thus, the advantages of Hybrid Renewable Energy Complementary Systems have gained attention from many researchers around the world. Research to improve the complexity complementary system performance is necessary to achieve well design control and autonomous system operation and systematic energy management in the system. With that, this paper presents a new voltage-divider balancing switching technique to control the self-intervention switching for the Hybrid Renewable Energy Complementary System. The self-intervention control strategy of the Hybrid Renewable Energy Complementary System is coordinated using the Simulink/Stateflow process. The Simulink/Stateflow modelling performs under different preset conditions which are based on the analogue voltage reading from the input of the Hybrid Renewable Energy Complementary System resources. Simulation results demonstrate the validity of the proposed research to control the self-intervention of the Hybrid Renewable Energy Complementary System under the preset conditions.","PeriodicalId":446482,"journal":{"name":"2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123933593","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The methodology proposed aims to reduce the average service time, which is defined as the sum of the travelling time plus the execution time. The other concern refers to the priority of this type of orders, being the emergency orders of high priority when compared to the commercial ones. By first stratifying the historical data over five week days, from Monday to Friday, one can conduct a work order forecasting related to emergency services, to further discount these amount of time from the total workday hours of all available teams. A given case study has shown how one could apply this methodology to predict emergency order.","PeriodicalId":446482,"journal":{"name":"2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126359615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The engine was fuelled firstly with diesel fuel then with different diesel fuel-animal fats blends (5%, 10%, 15% animal fats content in mixture with diesel fuel). The main animal fat advantages - cetane number and calorific value close to diesel fuel, higher oxygen content it recommend a good alternative fuel for diesel engines. But, the high viscosity and poor vaporization characteristics of animal fats need prior their heating. The results of experimental investigations show the animal fats effects on auto ignition delay, on the combustion parameters and on the pollutants emissions level. Thus, at the animal fats content increase in mixture with diesel fuel, for same engine adjustments, were obtained the follow results: auto ignition delay increases with ~20%; maximum gas pressure decreases with 10%; gas temperature decreases with 8%; indicate efficiency decreases with 10%; NOx emissions level decreases with 30%; CO emission level increases with 28%; HC emissions level increases with 58%; CO2 emission level decreases with 3.5% and smoke emissions decreases with 65%. Was established the animal fats effects on the fuel auto ignition and combustion. Animal fats can be considered a good alternative fuel for diesel engine, assuring the replace of the fossil fuels and resolving the major problem of animal wastes.","PeriodicalId":446482,"journal":{"name":"2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127333813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Off-line methods are commonly used for their fault detection. These methods have associated costs derived from the necessity of taking the transformer out of service. The application of on-line methods reduces the expected costs and the possibility of unpredicted failures. In the present study, off-line and on-line methods are applied to the detection of short circuits in transformers, demonstrating the possibility of moving from off-line to on-line methods. Short circuits between sections in a transformer winding, between winding and core and between windings have been considered. PSPICE software is used to simulate the transformer for both detection methods. A comparison of the fault indication in both techniques proves the possibility of moving from off-line to on-line method. Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA) is considered an accurate technique for off-line tests. The changes in the windings inductance and capacitance affect the number of poles in the system response, so the number of poles will indicate the number of healthy sections. For on-line method, measurement of primary/secondary voltage/current is used to determine the measurable values which would result from a range of internal short circuit faults. From the simulated results, it is found that primary current can be used as the main indicator for the primary winding short circuits; a combination of secondary voltage and primary current is found to be useful for detecting secondary winding faults. Secondary winding voltage can be the main indicator for the cross windings short circuits.","PeriodicalId":446482,"journal":{"name":"2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"23 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125686601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This percentage error analysis will contrast the predicted (Eirgrid) capacity and actual wind energy output observations (Wind farm) and postulations that consider alternative prediction metrics are discussed. The findings suggest that in monthly like for like comparisons over a twelve month period, total MWh percentage errors of -0.36% and 5.7% are observed respectively for the actual generation and the forecasted prediction, when a monthly averaged window is considered. However if one considers higher frequency observations, such as those available through Eirgrid (15 minute periods), a mean absolute error of 28.5% is evident for the national wind generation capacity over the course of the same year. In the context of the proposed Irish wholesale and integrated single electricity market (I-SEM), an error of this magnitude could have severe financial implications for the wind energy sector; particularly if wind is to become the primary component of the future Irish energy mix.","PeriodicalId":446482,"journal":{"name":"2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130533187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed multi-period formulation takes into account realistic models of the different terms of the Heat-Balance Equation (HBE) applied to OTL conductors. These terms are appropriately incorporated in order to preserve the convexity of the OPF that, in this paper, refers to the case of real-time dispatching of a given number of generation units. In this respect, a linearized formulation of AC-OPF is used in the problem definition. The proposed methodology is tested using a small standard case study as well as the IEEE 24 and 118 buses test networks. The results show that the proposed methodology increases the security of the system in conjunction to the capability to decrease the operation cost.","PeriodicalId":446482,"journal":{"name":"2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124945661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
