It covers the Astronomers Royal who followed Airy at Greenwich: Sir William Henry Mahoney Christie, Sir Frank Dyson, Sir Harold Spencer Jones, and Richard van der Riet Woolley, who oversaw the completion of the move of the Observatory to Herstmonceux Castle in Sussex. This chapter looks at the early controversy over the mathematics curriculum at the Royal Naval College, and at those who were employed as professors and instructors during the lifetime of the College at Greenwich.
