It has the tendency to reoccur even after surgery, which is due to missed pathological tract or tissue during surgical exploration. An adequate pre-surgical mapping is a necessity for giving an excellent surgical outcome and choosing an appropriate surgical technique for treating various fistulas. So, medical imaging modalities like X-ray fistulography, endoanal ultrasonography, computed tomography fistulography, and the magnetic resonance fistulography were used for assessing fistula. Among these, magnetic resonance fistulography is the commonly preferred diagnostic medical imaging technique for interpreting the fistula as it has higher resolution on soft tissues, non-usage of ionizing radiation, which reduced the threat of radiation-induced cancer, and non-invasive imaging technique, which reduces patient discomfort and complications. The perianal region fistula is mainly classified into two types namely, park’s classification and St. James university hospital’s classification. Hence in this literature, we have reviewed the importance of medical imaging modality in interpreting perianal fistula, especially magnetic resonance fistulography, as an accurate preoperative, post-operative, and follow-up medical imaging modality for the perianal fistula’s imaging. The subtraction technique, dynamic contrast imaging, volume imaging, and percutaneous instillation of aqueous jelly into the perianal fistula tract are the latest advances in imaging perianal fistula.","PeriodicalId":444035,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Radiology and Imaging Techniques","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128169559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The diagnosis is often delayed due to fact that it is rarely seen in daily practice and patients exhibit non-specific symptomatology at the time of presentation. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography usually confirms the diagnosis when contrast extravasations are seen in the excretory phase. Establishing an early diagnosis is crucial to avoid several serious complications such as urinoma, abscess formation, urosepsis, and renal impairment. Herein, we report a case of spontaneous renal calyceal rupture secondary to ureteric stricture.","PeriodicalId":444035,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Radiology and Imaging Techniques","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127018573","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: Computed tomography (CT) and/or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations performed between January 2018 and December 2019 in musculoskeletal radiology section were retrospectively re-evaluated by an experienced radiologist according to age, gender, radiological classification and location. Results: There were 247 patients (106 females, 141 males) aged between 8 and 64 years (mean age 30.65 ± 15.7 years) with benign bone lesions diagnosed for the first time. Most common diagnosis was osteochondroma seen in 37% of the patients (n: 91). Mean age was 30.18 ± 17.7. There were a male dominance with 57 males (62.6%) and 34 females (37.4%). Respective mean ages for both sexes were 23.92 ± 12 and 39.22 ± 21.2. Lesions were most commonly located around knee joint. 35% of patients (n: 86; 47 female, 39 male) were diagnosed as enchondroma. Mean age was 34.9 ± 13.4. Most common location was femur. Fibrous cortical defects and non-ossifying fibromas, collectively known as fibroxanthoma or metaphyseal fibrous defect, were the third common seen benign bone lesion with a percentage of 18 (n: 45). There were no sex predilection with 21 females and 24 males. Mean age was 25.66 ± 13.7, 51% of cases were seen in femur. Osteoid osteomas were comprised 10% of the cases (n: 25). There was a male predilection (21 males and 4 females) and long tubular bones were most common locations. Other rare lesions were not included into the study for statistical purposes. Conclusion: Knowledge of the properties of benign bone tumors is important. Because they are rarely seen, the diagnosis may be delayed. Benign bone tumours are most frequent in children and young adults, although they may also present in later stages of life. The incidence of benign bone tumours varies depending on the type. The most common type is osteochondroma. Although plain radiography is essential for diagnosis, CT and MRI examinations provide additional information. Treatment is indicated for symptomatic patients and for the patients with a risk of pathological fracture or deformity. In conclusion our findings were overall consistent with the literature.","PeriodicalId":444035,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Radiology and Imaging Techniques","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121842996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dose area product is a product of surface area of patient that exposed to radiation at the skin entrance multiplied by the radiation dose at the surface. This research focused on a dosimetry, DAP, for specific X-rays examination which is known as Intravenous Urography examination. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 145 adult patients age above 16 years examined using IVU in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at two public and two private hospitals during February 2012-March 2012. The type of X-ray tubes with their outputs (measured using Unfors Ray Safe XI R/F detector) and the exposure parameters for each patients were recorded. The DAP to patients were estimated using mathematical equation. The recorded data was analyzed using statistical software. It was obtained that mean DAP (Gy cm2) per examination within hospitals ranged from 13.7 Gy cm2 to 32.9 Gy cm2. The mean value of this study DAP (24.7 Gy cm2) per examination which was greater than most of the published results and National diagnostic reference levels. These insure that the Intravenous Urography performed in the some of the hospitals were not capable of acceptable dose levels for patient safety. Therefore, to achieve a lower value of DAP per examination to a patient; a quality assurance program should be done in the hospitals to minimize the number of films per exam and to use appropriate exposure factors to get quality radiographic image for diagnosis.","PeriodicalId":444035,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Radiology and Imaging Techniques","volume":"412 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133271504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is also done to determine the cut off value of relative enhancement for non-liver impairment (NLI) and liver impairment (LI). Material and methods: A total of 112 patients who had MRI liver performed using Gd-EOB-DTPA from January 2014 to December 2018 in a local university hospital were identified and included in the study. Their electronic medical records were reviewed and the following data were attained: Total bilirubin, prothrombin time (INR), serum creatinine and sodium. MELD and MELD-Na score were used to estimate total liver function. Regions of Interest (ROI) were drawn on the right and left liver lobe for plain and porto-venous phase study to get the relative liver enhancement (RLE). Results: There is a significant moderate negative correlation for MELD and low negative correlation for MELD-Na score with Gd-EOB-DTPA liver enhancement (r = -0.37, p < 0.001; r = -0.21, p < 0.05), respectively. From the ROC curve, the cut off value of RLE between NLI and LI is 0.5994 with a sensitivity of 71% and specificity of 65% (AUC = 0.748). Conclusion: Liver enhancement in MRI can be used as a screening tool to determine residual liver function in patient with liver cirrhosis.","PeriodicalId":444035,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Radiology and Imaging Techniques","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121445870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and methods: A retrospective record-based study was conducted at interventional radiology department of prince sultan military medical city in Riyadh city. Medical files of all women above 18 years who underwent uterine artery embolization during the period from January 2015 to January 2020 were reviewed. All included women files were initially assessed for their data including age, puncture site, preand post-procedure size and location of the fibroids. Post-procedure size change and complications were assessed. Results: A total of 160 female who underwent uterine artery embolization records for symptomatic fibroid were reviewed and data extracted. Females ages ranged from 18 to 60 years. Fibroid size reduction of less than 50% of its initial size was detected among 38 (44.7%) cases while it was reduced by 50 to 75% of its initial size among 27 (31.8%) cases but 20 (23.5%) cases showed reduction in size exceeding 75% of its initial size. Conclusions: In conclusion, the study revealed that Uterine artery embolization is an effective less invasive, and safe therapy. The procedure efficacy was more among young females with initially small fibroid masses and the highest reduction (> 50%) in fibroid size was detected among females with fibroid at cervix (71.4%), fundus (70%) and lowest was for females with multiple fibroid (50%) with no statically significance (P = 0.432).","PeriodicalId":444035,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Radiology and Imaging Techniques","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127060744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Method: The FiTT analysis procedure was as follows: First, the TEC of the arterial input function (AIF) was fitted to the gamma distribution function. Next, we defined the residual functions (R(t)s) that assume various perfusion states of brain tissue, and theoretical brain TECs were calculated by convolution of the AIF and R(t)s. Finally, we determined a theoretical TEC with the least error from the observed brain tissue TEC, using the theoretical TEC’s perfusion parameters as the estimations for the observation point. The estimation accuracy of FiTT was comparing an academic analyzer (bSVD algorithm) and a commercial analyzer (Bayesian algorithm) using a digital phantom. The verification items were visual evaluation of parametric maps, the relationship between ground truth and estimates, the effect of R(t) shape, the effect of AIF type, and the effect of source image noise. Results: Parametric map findings: For the academic analyzer, Tmax was affected by mean transit time (MTT); for the commercial analyzer, MTT was modulated by delay; for FiTT, CBV was slightly affected by MTT. The global characteristics and effect of the R(t) shape: The academic analyzer underestimated MTT, and tracer delay varied; the commercial analyzer had a positive bias for cerebral blood volume (CBV); and for FiTT, CBV and tracer delay estimated close to ground truth, cerebral blood flow (CBF) and MTT were affected by the R(t) shape. The effect of AIF type: The academic analyzer was independent; for the commercial analyzer, CBF, CBV, and tracer-delay were affected; for FiTT, CBF and CBV were affected. The effect of source image noise on parametric map noise: The academic analyzer was affected slightly; the commercial analyzer was unaffected; for FiTT, CBF map was affected. The effect of source image noise on the estimation bias: All analyzers were independent. The effect of the source image noise on the correlation coefficients (ground truth and estimates): None of the analyzers showed obvious proportional relationships. Discussion and conclusions: The three analyzers were affected by one or more of noise, AIF type, and R(t) shape. Therefore, the estimates were overestimated, underestimated, biased, varied, and interacted. FiTT depended on R(t) shape and parametric map noise was affected by source image noise; however, estimates were close to ground truth and showed good linearity in many cases. Because clinical cases were not evaluated, the clinical behavior of FiTT is unknown. Within the scope of this study, we conclude that the estimation accuracy of FiTT is comparable to that of the academic and the commercial analyzer.","PeriodicalId":444035,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Radiology and Imaging Techniques","volume":"402 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114059683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
