IoT is facing performance issues in packet data transmission due to network congestion; with the conventional packet routing process, there is no guarantee that the patients’ health data will be properly routed to doctors on time. This leaves the remote medical treatment at risk with possible threat to patients’ lives. In this paper, we studied the current healthcare packet transmission process in IoT and its performance issues in congested IoT networks, then proposed a solution to prioritize healthcare data routing in congested IoT cloud networks. Our proposed system adds a healthcare data identifier in IP packet headers at the sensor level, modifies QoS software at the network router level, and prioritizes healthcare data packet routing based on the healthcare data identifier seen at router QoS. Test data shows promising results that may significantly benefit remote medical diagnostic process by reducing up to 80 percent latency. Additionally, it saves medical diagnostic cost, and more importantly, reduces the risk of losing human lives. From our analysis, further contribution includes opening up multiple avenues for research.","PeriodicalId":443582,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116010596","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The V2X communications enable various services included in the latest standard released by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). In V2X communications, resource allocation plays a crucial role to exchange information between vehicles and other equipment. To evaluate its influence on network performance, we firstly develop a network model for V2X communications in urban areas, and then various services are considered in the model. Simulation results reveal that the dynamic resource allocation specified in the current standard, while able to avoid transmission collisions, cannot provide guaranteed services needed by intelligent transportation systems (ITS), especially for the enhanced V2X services in urban areas. Consequently, a location-aware resource allocation (LARA) strategy is proposed to tackle the discovered issues. Compared with its standard counterpart, the proposed approach can effectively improve the resource utilization and boost the network performance.","PeriodicalId":443582,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116194211","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, these devices are mostly lightweight nodes with limited computing resources. Some access points, such as the sinks or gateways, can alleviate the computing burden of the lightweight nodes with the assistance of computation offloading, e.g., edge computing or fog computing. Whereas, this is mostly limited by the location, computing power, and quantity of such access points. An emerging method to solve this issue is to deploy appropriate servers to provide computing service in the network, since it is impossible to upgrade all lightweight nodes into resource-rich nodes. In this paper, we propose an intelligent deployment of the computing servers (IDCS) based on a genetic algorithm, which can achieve optimized latency and load balance in deploying the computing servers to form hybrid computing service providers in the IoT network. Extensive simulations show that IDCS can outperforms traditional schemes considerably in aspects of both latency and load balance.","PeriodicalId":443582,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126733923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such statistics can be estimated by the DSA/CR system based on the on/off decisions provided by the employed spectrum sensing algorithm, which can be processed to estimate the duration of the individual idle/busy periods of the primary channel and subsequently a broad range of activity statistics. Previous work has investigated analytically this estimation approach and provided closed-form expressions for the estimated distribution as well as its associated estimation error. However, existing analytical results are provided in an implicit form that requires some form of numerical evaluation and is not always well- suited for analytical manipulations. In this context, this work extends the existing results by providing mathematical models in an explicit form that can be evaluated directly and are applicable to several estimation strategies. The obtained mathematical expressions are validated with simulation results, showing a remarkable high level of accuracy.","PeriodicalId":443582,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127681396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the NFV scheme, network functions are placed on generic servers over the network. When a network service is requested, it will be implemented by chaining several Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) placed on servers to form a Service Function Chain (SFC). The deployment of SFC faces an unprecedented challenge: when several network services are requested, which servers should be chosen to form service function chains while minimizing the total cost? Many existing optimization models consider the feasibility of placing the SFCs or minimizing the resource consumed by the VNFs. However, activate and maintain a server to hold VNFs also consume a huge amount of energy, and it's possible to lower the total energy cost by carefully arrange the servers with low maintenance cost. Therefore, in this paper, to investigate the network function placement for service chains with server maintenance cost, we propose a heuristic algorithm, which firstly construct a server set that may accommodate all service chains with low server maintenance cost. Then it formulates a linear programming to find the schemes of chaining the VNFs (also called placement configurations) with minimum communication cost in the server set, and obtain its optimal fractional solutions. Eventually, we perform a rounding scheme to achieve integer solutions that out-performs the greedy scheme in many evaluations.","PeriodicalId":443582,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132593959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The construction method of girth-6 protographs for any code rate is proposed. We provide a theoretical lower bound on the syndrome former constraint length under condition of the protographs without 4-cycles in their Tanner graphs. Then we use periodic QC lifting method to search the QC-SC-LDPC matrices with larger girth based on the protographs. The minimum dimension size of QC-SC-LDPC codes is given to count the girth of QC-SC-LDPC codes with a semi- infinite binary-check matrix structure. The support of higher frequency bands with large chunks of contiguous spectrum was deemed essential to fulfilling IMT 2020 vision of 20 Gbps peak data- rate in realistic deployment scenarios. It is also expected that global IMT traffic will grow 10 - 100 times from 2020 to 2030 and in order to support such growth Terahertz spectrum provides an attractive choice. In this paper, we describe the challenges in power amplifier, analog-to- digital design and impairments from phase noise that is expected in such regime. Considering such impairments, we show that realistic power amplifier backoff ratios are strongly correlated with the choice of a waveform. We provide results to show that phase noise could be mitigated by an appropriate choice of waveform and reference signals for compensation while a judicious choice of frame structure can be used to maintain reasonable scheduling and processing complexity. In order to maintain simultaneous connectivity to multiple base-stations resulting in large timing differences at the receiver, the isolation between panels at the user equipment can be successfully used.","PeriodicalId":443582,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"208 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131585342","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With regard to the severe path attenuation of THz waves, the short-distance indoor scenario is an appropriate choice for THz communication. However, the THz signals are readily blocked by the indoor obstacles, leading to a communication interruption. To tackle this issue, an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) is proposed to control the propagation direction of THz beam and enhance the coverage performance by smartly adjusting the phase shifts of reflecting elements. For sake of a desired phase shift combination of IRS elements in the IRS assisted THz multiple-input multiple- output (MIMO) system, an efficient Taylor expansion aided gradient descent (TE-GD) scheme is developed by dynamically updating the step size during the iterative process, where the step size is determined by the coefficients of second-order Taylor expansion formulation. Simulation results shows that, in contrast with the exhaustive search method, the developed TE-GD scheme realizes the basically consistent spectral efficiency with ignorable complexity. Moreover, compared with conventional gradient descent (C-GD) with fixed step size, the developed TE-GD scheme achieves 4.3 bps/Hz spectral efficiency improvement and 80.17% complexity reduction.","PeriodicalId":443582,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128971551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many users with different interests in the Internet, and different users request diverse videos when they need them. At the same time, users are constantly moving, which will affect the distance of D2D communication. Therefore, the user's mobility and user's interests should be taken into account when designing the cache scheme. Based on user mobility and user interest, this paper formulates a problem of maximizing the energy spectral efficiency of joint user connection selection, bandwidth allocation and power allocation based on mobility and interest aware D2D cache in HetNets. This problem is a fractional form and not a convex problem, so it is hard to be solved directly.
