Sanchez","doi":"10.1515/znw-2023-0014","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1515/znw-2023-0014","url":null,"abstract":"Abstract This article argues that many of Revelation’s ancient Jewish, Greek, and Roman audience members would have recognized a cosmic blood purification ritual at work in chapters 15–16. I contend first that many early audiences would have perceived the cosmos in Revelation as an operational temple (at least in Rev 4–16). I, then, expose similarities between the bowls of wrath and ancient blood purification rituals for sacred space. Zum einen wird ein Bezug zwischen dem alttestamentlich-frühjüdischen Motiv der Ruhe Gottes (Apg 7,48–50, vgl. Jes 66,1) und dem „Stehen“ Jesu (7,55–56) hergestellt. Der Beitrag richtet den Fokus auf die Funktion, die der Himmelfahrt im religionsgeschichtlichen Vergleich mit der Apotheose des Augustus – unter Berücksichtigung historiographischer, epigraphischer und numismatischer Zeugnisse – zukommt. Er verfolgt die These, dass Lukas eine medial verbreitete Apotheosevorstellung nutzt, um seinen griechisch-römischen Adressaten die universalisierte und fortdauernde Präsenz Jesu zu vermitteln. Ohne in eine direkte politische Opposition gegenüber der römischen Herrschaftsrepräsentation zu treten, entwirft er so ein theologisches Gegenbild. Der vorliegende Aufsatz widmet sich dem spezifisch lukanischen Gebrauch von σπλαγχνίζομαι und weist ein wiederkehrendes Erzählschema nach. Dieses besteht aus den Elementen visuelle Wahrnehmung, σπλαγχνίζομαι, Bewegung und Berührung. Das dritte Evangelium beschreibt das Erbarmen somit als einen körperlichen Vorgang. Dieser Vorgang lässt sich vor der Folie antiker hellenistischer Anthropologie plausibel erklären. Medizinische und philosophische Abhandlungen aus der antiken Welt begreifen den Körper als eine durchlässige Größe, die fortwährend äußeren Einflüssen ausgesetzt ist. Das Lukasevangelium teilt diese verbreitete Vorstellung und schildert das Erbarmen wiederholt als einen Vorgang, der durch einen visuellen Eindruck stimuliert wird, welcher in den Körper eindringt und dort eine Aktivität in den inneren Organen auslöst. Dieser innere Fluss kulminiert sodann in der physischen Berührung des Objekts des Erbarmens. In this essay, two forms of apocalyptic interpretation of Galatians are presented – a “perfected” and a “non-perfected” apocalyptic interpretation in relation to two key test cases: Gal 4,4–5 and 6,16. That discussion then requires a survey of Paul’s discourse of divine faithfulness in other undisputed Pauline texts. On the contrary, it can be shown that Luke views money with a clear-eyed realism, including a broad acceptance of the role that money plays in everyday human life. On the parabolic level, the importance of money is recognized even beyond its necessity for ensuring immediate survival, and monetary institutions such as earning interest or money changers are used as analogies. Even in texts with critical perspectives on money, no purely negative assessment is given.
