In order to estimate the power produced by a full-scale hydrokinetic turbine in prototype phase, it is necessary to study several similar models on a progressive scale and to test them on dedicated benches, in laboratory conditions. The characterization of increased diameter rotors requires larger models that often exceed the test capabilities of the hydraulic laboratory test benches. In this case, testing should be performed on-site, in real operating conditions. In this regard, a specially designed test system that can characterize the hydrokinetic rotors with larger diameters in rivers or channels with significant velocities has to be used. The main advantages of such a testing system are that the rotors are easily swappable, the electronic and electric parts are placed outside the water and there is no need for grid connection, due to low power requirements. Thus, the system can be deployed only by using a laptop and a battery pack, making it suitable for remote areas. The purpose of the experiments described in this paper was to determine the characteristic parameters like power, mechanical torque or power coefficient for hydrokinetic rotors with same geometry but different diameters. This testing method is fast and accurate and contributes to a better understanding of horizontal axis hydrokinetic turbines.","PeriodicalId":441906,"journal":{"name":"2022 8th International Conference on Energy Efficiency and Agricultural Engineering (EE&AE)","volume":"289 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115665873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Transport is one of the biggest polluters. Electric and hybrid cars together with renewable energy sources have the potential to ameliorate the transport ecology, but they still have shortcomings that can be improved. An analysis of the functioning of modern electric and hybrid vehicles, concerning inertia utilization, has been done. The conclusion is that the inertia is not used properly and thus the energy or fuel consumptions deteriorate. Тhe proposed solution has the potential to significantly improve the energy and fuel consumptions of electric and hybrid vehicles, and their operating costs, to extend the expensive battery lives and the run per battery charge of electric vehicles.","PeriodicalId":441906,"journal":{"name":"2022 8th International Conference on Energy Efficiency and Agricultural Engineering (EE&AE)","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121572642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sub-products obtention from waste of both industries can represent an opportunity if processes are technically and economically feasible. In this study, bioconversion of Lemna sp and Nejayote in biogas via anaerobic digestion was evaluated at short term as function of biogas production, as well as chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total solid (TS) removal. Lemna sp was collected from a pond system applied for wastewater treatment of pig farms, while Nejayote, the wastewater generated in the nixtamalization process of corn, was collected in a local corn processing store. Results indicated that the digesters with Lemna sp generated up to 32% higher biogas than that for Nejayote. This is also reflected in the biogas yield obtained, 0.31 L of biogas/ g COD and 0.46 L of biogas/ g COD for Nejayote and Lemna sp, respectively. Regarding biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) removal, the evaluation of the substrates indicated a greater removal of BOD present in the reactors with Lemna sp, reaching an average of 79% of BOD removed in 120 h, for a 37% removal in the reactors with Nejayote. On the other hand, an increase in the concentration of total COD was observed in both substrates, demonstrating the potential solubilization of the particulate material present in both substrates. Although the Lemna sp reactors increased the concentration of TS, a fraction may be attributable to the development of microorganisms typical of anaerobic digestion. On the contrary, in the case of digesters with Nejayote, a decrease in TVS and an increase in COD are observed simultaneously. This could be due to increase is closely related to the hydrolysis of the organic material present in the anaerobic digesters. In general, methanogenic viability were more suitable for the Lemna sp conversion at the conditions applied and the same COD load of both substrates.","PeriodicalId":441906,"journal":{"name":"2022 8th International Conference on Energy Efficiency and Agricultural Engineering (EE&AE)","volume":"294 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124347403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two cases are studied - when the suction is performed from \"Unlimited space\", as well as from limited space in the presence of a transverse wall. An indicator (coefficient kE) used to quantify the rate of improvement of the system energy efficiency by installing a suction element, evaluating what part is the particular improvement of energy efficiency based on the air suction pressure losses without installing an inlet body for improving suction, has been established. When using a suction cone, it is recommended that the taper angle be about 60o and a relative length L /D of not less than 0.2. Under these conditions, the reduction in inlet pressure losses is up to 0.9 compared to those without a suction cone installed. When using a smooth inlet, it is recommended that the relative radius should be R/D>0.1. For both studied methods of suction (from an unrestricted medium and from a transverse wall) the coefficient kE has values around 0.9.","PeriodicalId":441906,"journal":{"name":"2022 8th International Conference on Energy Efficiency and Agricultural Engineering (EE&AE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129574263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
