The initial structure of the Green 13 report and its sub-teams did not include a social equity section. This structure was modeled upon sustainability plans borne out of the climate change debates of the 1990’s. Fortunately, some communities that are years ahead in sustainability planning have since revised their initial plans to include societal components. Some are designed specifically to engage all citizens in the processes of governance while others focus on how to equitably meet the basic needs of all people. This section seeks to address both of these areas.","PeriodicalId":441470,"journal":{"name":"Comprehending Equity","volume":"163 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132282690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pursuing a comparative approach, the chapter aims to show how high sustainability of production systems is achieved by tribespeople through employment of ecological knowledge, customary laws and reciprocity. The purpose of ethnographic case studies is to highlight the centrality of equity in terms of equality in opportunities and access to natural resources which the highlanders nurture and take benefit from.In order to contextualise and situate the ethnographic illustrations from Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh in the realms of equity and sustainable development, the chapter presents a brief appraisal of pertinent literature on equity, sustainable agriculture and sustainable development discourse with focus on indigenous knowledge and environmental ethics.","PeriodicalId":441470,"journal":{"name":"Comprehending Equity","volume":"148 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122861433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
