As water resources are scarce, it is necessary to treat wastewater and reserve it for utilization. The presence of heavy metals, such as mercury, nickel, lead, and chromium in wastewater causes severe chronic disorders in living beings. Several physical and chemical processes are available to reduce heavy metals, with adsorption being a less expensive option. Adsorbents such as activated carbon, sawdust, silica gel, zeolites, tree waste, and tea waste can be used in the adsorption process. In this study, tea waste was used as an adsorbent to remove chromium (VI) from industrial wastewater. The effects of various adsorption parameters on the removal efficiency were studied by varying these parameters to different values. The adsorption isotherms were fitted to experimental data to clearly describe the adsorption process. Based on the study of the kinetics of the process, it was found that first-order kinetics favor the adsorption process. This research concludes that tea waste can be a good choice as a biosorbent for removing heavy metals.","PeriodicalId":441295,"journal":{"name":"i-manager's Journal on Material Science","volume":"135 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123311804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The potential for combining reinforcements uniformly in the matrix via powder metallurgy is stimulating new research. In the present study, copper powder is used as the matrix and SiC and graphite are used as reinforcements for the fabrication of a hybrid metal matrix composite using the powder metallurgy route. Silicon Carbide (SiC) and graphite are used as reinforcements in copper Metal Matrix Composite (MMC). SiC is a ceramic material that increases the hardness of the composite by adding it as reinforcement, and graphite is a material that helps increase corrosion resistance when used as reinforcement. In each sample, SiC and graphite mixture reinforcement is in equal proportion, varying this composition from 0 to 10% of the weight percentage. These samples are investigated for Vickers hardness, densities, and electrochemical corrosion properties after being prepared by powder metallurgy with dimensions of 16 mm x 16 mm x 25 mm. The sample with 8% reinforcement showed good corrosion resistance and poor corrosion resistance for the 4% reinforcement sample. These composition samples were subjected to X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) characterizations, which showed good correlation for the hardness and corrosion test values.","PeriodicalId":441295,"journal":{"name":"i-manager's Journal on Material Science","volume":"159 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115130645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research aims to streamline starch paste usage, enable long-term storage without fungicidal additives, and enhance adhesive durability without compromising quality. The application of fresh starch paste and activated starch film elevated the pH levels in the coated samples compared to the adhesive-free controls. Following moist heat and light aging, the samples with activated starch films exhibited the highest pH. Fresh starch paste yielded minimal color changes (ΔE) after aging, whereas the activated starch film displayed the lowest Δ E. Tensile strength increased with the application of fresh starch paste and activated starch film. Although the tensile strength decreased after aging, the samples with adhesives exhibited higher values than the adhesive-free controls. The adhesion levels decreased after aging, with fresh starch paste displaying the highest adhesion after light aging and activated starch film demonstrating the highest adhesion after moist heat aging.","PeriodicalId":441295,"journal":{"name":"i-manager's Journal on Material Science","volume":"29 9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126064465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thermal Enhanced Oil Recovery (TEOR) techniques have been found to be effective in increasing the oil recovery from mature reservoirs. This paper compares the two most commonly used TEOR methods, In- Situ Combustion (ISC) and hot fluid injection, in the Sudanese Oil Field, Orion Field. The reservoir properties, operating conditions, production performance, technical challenges, and opportunities, including depth limitations, conventional completion problems, and reservoir heterogeneity, were analyzed for each method. Economic feasibility and environmental impacts are also discussed, including factors such as capital and operating costs, oil recovery rates, and carbon emissions. This study offers valuable insights into the practical aspects of implementing TEOR projects in the Sudanese oil field and can inform decision-making in the oil and gas industry, particularly in reservoir engineering, production optimization, and environmental management.","PeriodicalId":441295,"journal":{"name":"i-manager's Journal on Material Science","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126485644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The demand for concrete is increasing daily as a result of the expansion of urbanization and industrialization. To produce concrete, a lot of raw materials and natural resources are needed. A significant quantity of industrial waste, agricultural waste, and other types of solid material disposal are simultaneously creating significant environmental problems. The use of artificial wastes as supplementary materials, the source of which are both reliable and suitable for alternative preventive solutions, promotes the environmental sustainability of the industry by minimizing and reducing the negative effect of the concrete industry due to the explosive usage of raw materials. Recent use of such products to be utilized as a partial replacement for Portland cement (PC) in cementitious systems is investigated in terms of material qualities and the extent to which they can be replaced in cementitious systems. In particular, Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCM) can improve material qualities such as flowability, strength and durability. Conventional concrete was utilized as the design mix proportion, with 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% of the cement being replaced with industrial waste such as fly ash and hypo sludge. The test's 30% replacement level produced the best compressive stress when waste paper was used, where strength is less important or where the construction is only expected to be used temporarily, and design mix proportions up to 40% replacement can also be used. The optimal level of Rice Husk Ash (RHA) replacement in concrete is 10%, which has been shown to significantly increase compressive strength at 28 days when compared to the control mix. It reveals that the Palm Oil Fuel Ash (POFA) concrete, used as a concrete control in this investigation, has a higher compressive strength than Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) Concrete. This paper examines the potential application of industrial and agricultural wastes as additional cementitious material in the manufacture of concrete. It focuses on describing the engineering, physical, and chemical properties of these wastes to demonstrate the concept of using them. This gives an overview of the knowledge that is now available regarding the successful use of synthetic wastes in the concrete industry, including fly ash, slag, silica fume, rice husk ash, palm oil fuel ash, sugar cane bagasse ash, wood waste ash, and bamboo leaf ash.","PeriodicalId":441295,"journal":{"name":"i-manager's Journal on Material Science","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133686390","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
