On retrouvera dans cet ouvrage, remarquable par la précision et l'acuité de l'introduction, le soin, le goût et la sensibilité habituels (mais dignes d'éloges renouvelés) apportés par les éditeurs de la collection « Classiques africains » à la notation des langues africaines et à la traduction juxtalinéaire. Pierre Smith examine d'abord les distinctions introduites par la langue rwandaise elle-même, pour constater que le découpage proposé du vaste domaine des récits n'est que partiellement satisfaisant. Non seulement l'attribution d'un récit particulier à tel ou tel genre {imigani : contes ou proverbes, ibiteekerezo : récits à vocation historique, etc.) fait problème aux oreilles des intéressés euxmêmes, mais surtout cette classification incertaine passe à côté des catégories réellement opératoires de la littérature rwandaise. Tel est le premier aspect de cette thèse brillante et paradoxale qui, par souci de définir la spécificité de la littérature, s'ouvre à l'intériorité secrète de l'expression. L'auteur écarte délibérément de son recueil la littérature savante (élaborée par des spécialistes autour du roi et des nobles) qui a déjà retenu l'attention de nombreux collecteurs et analystes (Kagame, Coupez & Kamanzi, en particulier). Cependant, il y inclut un certain nombre de récits d'origine savante, captés et déformés par la veine populaire. Une première caractéristique sociologique de ce corpus est sa remarquable homogénéité dans l'ensemble du pays, en dépit de l'inégale emprise du pouvoir central sur les régions périphériques : « Le Rwanda politique pouvait être divers, le Rwanda symbolique, lui, maintenait son unité profonde » (p. 18). En revanche, l'auteur note des différences considérables d'un conteur à l'autre, à l'intérieur d'un même terroir. Celles-ci ne sont pas d'égale qualité et Pierre Smith estime que le principe structuraliste de l'équivalence des variantes ne peut être appliqué à l'analyse littéraire proprement dite. The purpose of study was to calculate and to compare the energy values of onion hay, tofu waste and bananas skin. Twelve laying hens were randomly allocated to one out of three types of feeds. About 50 g of powder form of feeds were forced fed to the experimental hens. The results indicate that the gross energy varied within the tested feeds. The highest values of apparent metabolically energy (AME) and true metabolically energy (TME) were achieved by tofu waste, while the energy (AME and TME) values of onion hay were higher than those values in bananas skin. The values of TME were 10.04, 11.88 and 9.58 MJ/kg for onion hay, tofu waste and bananas skin, respectively.
