The effective management of procurement processes is crucial for ensuring that money is spent wisely and there is an efficient service delivery. However, the paper-based procurement systems have been plagued by inefficiencies.Objectives: To address the challenges of paper-based procurement systems, the study developed a digital procurement framework. The development of a digital procurement framework for the South African public sector represents a strategic response to these challenges and aims to leverage cutting-edge digital technologies to revolutionise the way that the government procures goods and services.Method: The study followed a qualitative research methodology in which content analysis was used to identify themes. Subsequently, a thematic analysis was conducted to formulate the components of the proposed framework. In South Africa, over 3.5 million people live with disabilities, making up about 6.6% of the total population. People with disabilities face numerous challenges of prejudice, and increasingly, digital exclusion is also becoming a concern.Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the extent and challenges that People with disabilities (PwD) have in accessing digital technology, assess the level of the digital divide, and propose measures to narrow this gap. Data were collected using survey questions, and the target population were people with disabilities located in various districts of KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa.Method: The study utilised a quantitative approach and analysed the findings using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).Results: The results indicated that people with disabilities are marginalised and have limited or no access to technology. The research concludes that there needs to be a targeted approach towards assisting people with disabilities, and stakeholders involved need to combat the digital divide for disadvantaged individuals to promote positive social change.Conclusion: More needs to be done to increase society’s sensibilities towards people living with disabilities. The study acknowledged the significance of healthcare informatics such as Smart Card Technology (SCT) in today’s dynamic health systems.Objectives: This study aimed to investigate factors that influence healthcare professionals’ intentions to use SCT in public healthcare.Method: The study adopted a quantitative research approach using questionnaire surveys as a means to collect data from a total of 406 healthcare professionals from hospitals in Tshwane.Results: The findings showed that all of the variables based on the diffusion of innovation (DOI) theory, including behavioural intention (BI), social influence (SI), service quality (SQ), user satisfaction (US), compatibility (C), system use (SU) and information quality (IQ), as well as the health unified theory of acceptance of user technology (HUTAUT), DeLone and McLean’s Information Systems Success (DM ISS) model, had a positive impact on the intention to use the SCT. Continued use of SCT was positively correlated with user satisfaction and found a favourable correlation between BI and all of the factors.Conclusion: The healthcare professionals’ intention to utilise SCT was notably impacted by various factors, including SI, SQ, US, C, SU and IQ. These factors collectively influence the intention to utilise the SCT. In addition, these findings show that BI has an impact on the intention to utilise SCT.Contribution: The results offer a more profound understanding of the variables that impact the use of SCT to improve patient outcomes. In developing countries, public hospitals can enhance their technology acceptance by utilising the SCT adoption framework. Furthermore, this study only included healthcare professionals who worked for public hospitals; to provide a more complete picture of both sectors, future research might concentrate on a target group of healthcare professionals who worked for both public and private hospitals. This article is about how the City of Tshwane (CoT), a South African metropolitan municipality is using data collected from its various information and communication technology (ICT) projects to improve decision-making.Objectives: The study aims to identify the type of Big Data generated by South African municipalities and to establish ways in which knowledge, expertise and suitable management techniques impact the efficient application of Big Data in these municipalities.Method: A qualitative approach, a case study method and Semi-structured interviews were deemed fit to collect data while thematic analysis was employed to identify patterns and themes associated with participants’ experiences. Structuration Theory was used to analyse existing social structures that govern how Big Data is used in the CoT.Results: There is a lack of data integration and a Big Data management system in the CoT. The healthcare technology landscape continues to grow in complexity, yet the availability of real-time information for decision making is limited. A Live Healthcare Console has been proposed to keep key stakeholders informed using real-time information by connecting existing healthcare resources.Objectives: The objective of the research was to identify and evaluate five eHealth design models to determine whether they can be used to design a Live Healthcare Console. The evaluation of the models considered the Batho Pele Principles, which was created by the South African government to promote service delivery.Method: A literature review was conducted to identify relevant eHealth models. The models were evaluated and scored using a custom evaluation framework. The models were also scored against the eHealth model aims (combine, communicate, collaborate and connect) identified in this research.Results: The average score of the five models was 70%, with none fully satisfying the unique South African contexts such as the Batho Pele Principles.Conclusion: A new design model needs to be created as the foundation for the Live Healthcare Console, as no model which caters to the South African context exists.Contribution: A custom evaluation framework for eHealth models considering the unique South African contexts was created. As most banking services are nowadays performed online, alarming fraudulent activities occur daily. The online banking frauds are increasingly and commonly being experienced globally and are damaging to both banks and customers.Objectives: The goal of the study was to investigate issues in online fraud detection in the banking sector from South Africa and Spain.Method: The study followed the Design Science Research (DSR) methodology. Data were collected through the qualitative approach particularly using focus groups and semi-structured interviews. The study followed non-probability sampling since it focussed on a specialised area of online fraud model. In total, the population size consisted of 17 participants, which included fraud technical managers, fraud investigator specialists, fraud technical specialists and data scientists.Results: In the South African context, the study established that there is a lack of online fraud experts in the banking sector. The findings reveal that the lack of online fraud expertise may lead to banks having weak detection systems. In the Spanish perspective, the study revealed that there is a lack of law regulation that poses a high risk.Conclusion: Given the lack of online fraud experts in the banking sector, banks are urged to acquire and develop online fraud expertise. This investigation addressed the commercialisation dynamics research gap of entrepreneurial universities.Objectives: To investigate commercialisation dynamics of a strategic information management (SIM) system to facilitate the CoI process of an entrepreneurial university.Method: This paper presents the qualitative component of a larger mixed method complex action research strategy. Data were collected through an in-depth face-to-face interview and analysed through descriptive content analysis.Results: The results highlight successful CoI practices fulfilled through the signification framework for the SIM system for commercialisation dynamics of entrepreneurial universities. The system is based on various components deemed suitable for commercialisation.Conclusion: This study has the potential to guide the University of Johannesburg (UJ), as well as other higher education institutions (HEIs) and institutions involved in entrepreneurship, innovation, and commercialisation, in creating an entrepreneurial environment for their innovators.
