This involved laboratory evaluation of indirect tensile stiffness modulus (ITSM) on UTM25 test equipment in accordance with the Australian Standard AS2891.13.1-1995. The test was applied to dense-graded (10 mm) unmodified and BRA-modified asphalt mixtures at five different test temperatures: 5°C, 15°C, 25°C, 40°C and 60°C and three different loading frequencies: 0.33 Hz, 0.50 Hz and 1.0 Hz. The results showed that in the high-intermediate temperature range and at low frequency the resilient modulus of BRA-modified asphalt mixtures was higher than the modulus of unmodified mixtures. It was discovered that the viscoelastic behavior of BRA-modified asphalt mixtures was more pronounced than in the case of unmodified asphalt mixtures.","PeriodicalId":44000,"journal":{"name":"Roads and Bridges-Drogi i Mosty","volume":"101 1","pages":"315-331"},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2020-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89378010","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effect was an investigation along two railway line sections: on the first section the barriers were located less than 3.8 m from the track axis and considerable distress of the barriers was observed; on the second section barriers of the same type were located 4.6 m from the track axis and no distress was noted. A method for determination of displacement occurring under aerodynamic loading is presented, based on measurement of vibration acceleration and calculation of double integral. The obtained results are compared with measurements from an interferometric radar. Parameters for analysis and assessment of the magnitude of dynamic impact from passing trains are proposed. The results of the analyses performed on the two railway line sections are compared. The article also presents laboratory tests of an undamaged noise barrier panel. Conclusions are formulated regarding the use of noise barriers susceptible to fatigue due to alternating positive and negative aerodynamic pressure peaks.","PeriodicalId":44000,"journal":{"name":"Roads and Bridges-Drogi i Mosty","volume":"20 1","pages":"247-265"},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2020-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75152729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The capacity of the minor entries depends on many factors. One of them is the traffic flow pattern on the major street. In the case of slow-moving queue of vehicles on the main street caused by a downstream traffic signal, the capacity of movements on the minor street joining the queue of vehicles on the main street is significantly reduced. The surveys of traffic parameters were performed in three Polish cities: Wroclaw, Opole, and Krakow. On the basis of these studies, a simulation model representing the traffic conditions at such an intersection was developed. The influence of pedestrian traffic and the number of storage spaces in the median on the possibility of vehicles from the minor entries joining the queue of vehicles on the main street was examined.","PeriodicalId":44000,"journal":{"name":"Roads and Bridges-Drogi i Mosty","volume":"29 1","pages":"211-224"},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2020-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77055653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CKD was characterized chemically and physically. The results revealed that addition of CKD improved the mechanical properties of the base course significantly. The results showed a significant increase in California Bearing Ratio, from 234.5% measured for untreated base to 334.4%, 362.7% and 384.6% for CKD content of 5%, 15% and 25%, respectively. In terms of chemical composition, CKD is similar to cement. Scanning electron microscope images showed that the average particle size is approximately 0.5 microns. The granules are mainly spherically shaped, with cubic crystals of sodium and potassium salts. The leachability study of CKD in the base course revealed that heavy metal concentrations in CKD are fixed and insoluble in water.","PeriodicalId":44000,"journal":{"name":"Roads and Bridges-Drogi i Mosty","volume":"15 1","pages":"199-210"},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2020-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82440291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data for calculation of elements of the transition matrix from one condition to another are taken from visual evaluation as well as from instrumental reading. It is recommended to prepare data sets in the form of pavement management system data tables based on a representative sample of measuring sections. Discrete time intervals – of one year – are used when constructing the model of transition matrices. The procedure of forming Markov transition matrix with partially complete data sets is proposed also in paper. The basis of this procedure is information on the previous condition of the structure and the results of the instrumental evaluation, which enables correction of the predicted values. The final matrix takes into account not only the probability, but also the speed of transition from one condition to another. It is also possible to work with the initial data using appropriate databases or other software.","PeriodicalId":44000,"journal":{"name":"Roads and Bridges-Drogi i Mosty","volume":"32 1","pages":"225-242"},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2020-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82135640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Meandrically arranged thick ropes made from textile waste covered with soil mixed with randomly distributed wool and polyester fibres were applied for stabilisation. The ropes were installed on the slope in autumn. Hydroseeding was performed the following spring. Behaviour of the slope during several months was regularly monitored. In the first period – during autumn and winter – the ropes in combination with fibre-reinforced soil reduced the danger of local landslides and soil erosion. After hydroseeding the system provided water supply needed for seed germination. During grass growth the fertilising effect of nitrogen compounds released as a result of wool biodegradation was revealed. Finally, a stable slope covered with high grass grown in a relatively short time was achieved.","PeriodicalId":44000,"journal":{"name":"Roads and Bridges-Drogi i Mosty","volume":"122 1","pages":"169-181"},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2020-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90272477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If bentonite is characterised by high liquid limit, production of support fluid with sufficiently high density and accompanying low viscosity is impossible. The aim of the presented research was to verify the usefulness of loess for modification of bentonite slurries. Various bentonite-loess mixtures and suspensions activated with sodium carbonate were tested. It was noted that an addition of loess results in a decrease in liquid limit of the bentonite-loess mixture. Testing of suspensions produced from different bentonite-loess mixtures enabled determination of the optimum sodium carbonate content as well as the minimum bentonite-loess mixture content in the suspension ensuring the required density. The influence of loess content on viscosity and water bleed was then investigated, which enabled determination of loess content range at which suspensions with the required density fulfil also the requirements regarding viscosity and bleed. It was ascertained that an addition of loess enables production of bentonite-loess slurries with adequate properties. Based on the presented results, a patent was obtained and production of bentonite-loess mixture for use in technology of slurry walls was initiated.","PeriodicalId":44000,"journal":{"name":"Roads and Bridges-Drogi i Mosty","volume":"77 1","pages":"97-106"},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2020-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90461922","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Internal curing provided by superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) can address the problem by facilitating hydration process and controlling water supply in both fresh and hardened states. The paper discusses the influence of three SAPs on fresh and hardened properties of fibre reinforced mortars containing fly ash (FRM-FA). The analysis confirmed that SAP with smaller particle sizes (< 80 µm) has a dominant influence on mitigation of autogenous shrinkage and facilitates formation of denser and more durable cementitious matrix. Despite initial strength reduction caused by collapsing SAP, mechanical characteristics of mortars are significantly improved by the prolonged hydration, facilitated by SAP and refilling of SAP pores. The effect is much more pronounced for finer polymers (< 80 µm).","PeriodicalId":44000,"journal":{"name":"Roads and Bridges-Drogi i Mosty","volume":"99 1","pages":"149-163"},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2020-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85904935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
