They are widely shared objects of cultural preferences because of their great diversity and the pluralization of the media that broadcast them. This article uses data from a 2017 national survey of taste and viewing practices for TV. The patrimonial range of the series is examined and shows that there is no longer a television culture shared by the general public. Factorial analysis of favorite series and those which viewers have stopped watching, shows that the worlds of tastes are characterized by a differentiation of preferences underpinned by a significant endogenous logic.","PeriodicalId":439880,"journal":{"name":"Loisir et Société / Society and Leisure","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124338366","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These seniors possess what Bourdieu calls Cultural Capital (habitus). This Capital promotes self-confidence and a sense of belonging. The main objective of this research is to better know and understand participation in a poetry festival in a seniors’ residence. It aims to compare the cultural leisure activities practiced during youth with those of today, as well as to understand the benefits that seniors derive from their participation in the poetry festival. Finally, it seeks to better define the cultural experience as lived by the participants. To achieve these objectives, a case study was conducted using a qualitative approach. The results show the importance of having a varied offer of cultural leisure activities, including poetry, for the safeguarding of Cultural Capital (habitus) among seniors in Quebec residences.","PeriodicalId":439880,"journal":{"name":"Loisir et Société / Society and Leisure","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115624003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, this study aimed to test the measurement invariance (MI) of the construct validity of the Perceived Freedom in Leisure Scale (PFLS). The research sample consisted of 1097 university students (480 women and 617 men). The MI of the PFLS was tested by multigroup confirmatory factor analyses that test the invariance of the covariance structures within the scope of structural equation modeling. The study yielded evidence which indicates that the measurement model defined for the factor structure of the scale provides MI in terms of gender. The fit indexes for formal invariance, which is the first phase of MI, are χ2 /df = 1.48; CFI = .97; NFI = .91; and RMSEA = .065. Meanwhile, the study observed that a value regarding metric, scalar, and strong invariances, which pertain to other phases of MI, is within acceptable limits (≤−.01 ∆CFI ≤.01). According to the results, we can deduce that the items on a psychological measurement tool represent the same psychological structure among groups.","PeriodicalId":439880,"journal":{"name":"Loisir et Société / Society and Leisure","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114217333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Trois types d’acteurs ont participé à La Vague : l’artiste professionnel, des membres du personnel des EIM et des participants. Les résultats montrent l’existence de la portée culturelle et sociale du projet. However, empirical understanding of how ICH migrates, and is transmitted within diasporic communities is sparse. This paper draws upon a qualitative study with middle-class British Indian families living in and around London to unpack the ways in which ICH is enacted, interpreted, and transmitted from across generation through the construction of diasporic leisure spaces. Based on interviews with parents and children and observation of festival sites, it is argued that the leisure–ICH nexus in the diaspora materializes through two interlinked processes: “transmission of ethnic cultural capital” and “place-making.” These processes draw upon and contribute to diasporic social networks. In exploring these intersections, the paper further draws attention to how the internal differentiations within diasporic communities inflect the (re)production of diasporic leisure and ICH in the context of contemporary urban multi-culture in London.","PeriodicalId":439880,"journal":{"name":"Loisir et Société / Society and Leisure","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132234535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since 2004, China has rapidly engaged with ICH and the associated practices stipulated by UNESCO. Based on a critical analysis of two cultural festivals in China, this study illustrates the impact of official heritage discourse on local communities. Heritage policies have adopted a particular understanding of “culture” that certifies and beautifies related cultural practices and products for commercial purposes. However, these processes of cultural reproduction transform community-based leisure activities into tourism consumption for an external public. Such changes legitimize and reinforce social inequalities within state-society relationships. The Quebec government is no exception. Since the incorporation of the notion of intangible cultural heritage in its Cultural Heritage Act, it has made the cultural and tourism industries not only an essential vector for its dissemination, but also a means of ensuring its continued existence. However, the rapid pace of consumption of cultural products, imposed by both the cultural and mass tourism industries, leads us to question the durability of certain forms of intangible cultural heritage, which can only be transmitted over time. Therefore, it seems appropriate to reflect on the integration of intangible cultural heritage in a combined perspective of events and mass tourism, important parts of the local economic development of Quebec.","PeriodicalId":439880,"journal":{"name":"Loisir et Société / Society and Leisure","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114880690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The importance of “encouraging all kinds of action to make the bearers of intangible heritage aware of the value of their culture and of the need to ensure its safeguarding and revitalization” is identified (UNESCO, 1993, p. 8). Ten years later, the Text of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (UNESCO, 2003) is adopted by the international organization. Article 2 paragraph 2 of the General provisions section of the Text identifies the five domains of ICH, namely (a) “oral traditions and expressions, including language as a vehicle of intangible cultural heritage”; (b) “performing arts”; (c) “social practices, rituals and festive events”; (d) “knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe”; and (e) “traditional craftsmanship.” The 9 articles in this issue relate to the second and third domains of ICH, as identified in the Text. Table 1 presents the different themes addressed and their authors according to the two ICH domains. This issue thus opens up discussion on the following themes: ludism and creation (Bartholeyns & Bonvoisin, 2011), civic engagement (Tornatore, 2017), or new forms of participation (Kamal, 2019) promoted by ICH, whose activities, not their products or supports, represent the object of study, in terms of values (Pietro et al., 2017), identity (Frangne, 2011), sense of belonging (Regulus, 2007), etc. The articles in this issue also invite reflection in terms of interpretation (Chaumier, 2010), appropriation (Linck, 2012), cultural mediation (Lempereur, 2008), in professional or amateur leisure practices (Euvrard, 2016), and in those of mass tourism (Massoud et al., 2019; Rodzi et al., 2013), ensuring the safeguarding of ICH (Brito & Pianezza, 2017), which “contributes to the enrichment of cultural diversity and human creativity” (UNESCO, 2003). The choice to focus this issue on “performing arts” and “social practices, rituals and festive events” is largely based on the idea that their transmission only occurs in “their manifestation, therefore, by those who experience them” (Le Coq et al., 2019, p. 171). This choice is also motivated by the fact that, paradoxically, cultural industries, in their economic logic of frequentation and the public, increasingly take place in these two related universes that are","PeriodicalId":439880,"journal":{"name":"Loisir et Société / Society and Leisure","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123043778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
