A set of integrated modules which process the data and support retrospective review of the data and derived summary information has been completed. This prototyping effort has identified the need for more complex data processing in the second-generation information system. Enhancements include development of computer-based methods to assist with therapy assessment and outcome prediction, and installation of data communication links between the ICU and other sites.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439237,"journal":{"name":"[1991] Computer-Based Medical Systems@m_Proceedings of the Fourth Annual IEEE Symposium","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115405397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The student modes in most ITSs evaluate the student's current response and store an analysis. However, both earlier responses and immediate ones should be taken into account. It should also be recognized that students may show inconsistent behavior. Exploring initial implementation of CIRCSIM-TUTOR shows that this is a better approach to tutoring first-year medical students about the causal relationships between parameters in the cardiovascular system involved in regulating blood pressure using complex negative feedback process.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439237,"journal":{"name":"[1991] Computer-Based Medical Systems@m_Proceedings of the Fourth Annual IEEE Symposium","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133346097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method uses several image processing operators. The final classification results from contextual fusion of different clues. The overall flow of information among the active components of the cell description procedure (CDP) is outlined. The CDP is constructed and validated by a sequence of exploration and confirmation phases. Exploration takes place when a set of known images that is progressively improved until the results are satisfactory is worked out through the CDP. The confirmation phase may then start, working out a new set of images (of the same type but not analyzed before) and proceeding until acceptable sets of agents are generated. The completion of a first exploration phase has identified some major fields of improvement such as the identification of revision criteria for the refinement of the F-nuclei class.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439237,"journal":{"name":"[1991] Computer-Based Medical Systems@m_Proceedings of the Fourth Annual IEEE Symposium","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130689516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paradigms used were the back propagation, binary adaptive resonance theory, and fuzzy resonance paradigms. It appears, from the limited testing done, that the back-propagation network performs best. Also discussed is the need to standardize input data files to facilitate paradigm comparisons and minimize software system development time. A structure for network input data files that could contribute to a process of standardization is proposed. The work is part of an effort to develop a medical practice support system to be used in isolated environments such as submarines.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439237,"journal":{"name":"[1991] Computer-Based Medical Systems@m_Proceedings of the Fourth Annual IEEE Symposium","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116074999","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A comparison of circadian parameters obtained by LLS indicates similar characteristics between both groups. Differences were found, however, in a prominent 8-h ultradian component documented for the short, but not the standard-stature children. This procedure of multiple LLS rhythmometry is recommended for the modeling of nonequidistant and/or nonsinusoidal time series, as well as for simultaneous estimation of parameters from several periodic components.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439237,"journal":{"name":"[1991] Computer-Based Medical Systems@m_Proceedings of the Fourth Annual IEEE Symposium","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116220548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This spike detector uses a simple threshold detector to identify potential spikes that appear on four-channel bipolar chains within the montage, and then passes waveform parameters to a three-layer neural network for second-level detection. Results obtained for the neural network with output thresholds arbitrarily set of 0.5 have yielded sensitivities averaging 74% and selectivities averaging 54%. While the selectivities for these trials were only fair, it is noted that substantial improvements could be achieved by raising the output thresholds.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439237,"journal":{"name":"[1991] Computer-Based Medical Systems@m_Proceedings of the Fourth Annual IEEE Symposium","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122720817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such devices include laboratory analyzers, image generators, therapeutic machinery, and patient monitors. Nonembedded software might interact with such devices across a computer network. Typical nonembedded software includes clinical laboratory systems, radiology systems, and intensive car systems. These systems are chosen for analysis because changes in the regulatory system make them much more vulnerable to legal action under the 1990 act than under the original 1976 act. The analysis shows that up to this time many producers of nonembedded device connecting software have not complied with the food and drug act, and the FDA had the authority, but not the tools to compel compliance. The 1990 act gives the FDA the data collection and enforcement tools to track down unregistered manufacturers of device connecting software.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439237,"journal":{"name":"[1991] Computer-Based Medical Systems@m_Proceedings of the Fourth Annual IEEE Symposium","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127516628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
