Ecrivain malade, souffrant d’une douleur chronique a la nuque et d’un manque tout aussi chronique d’inspiration, le Zuckerman de La Lecon d’anatomie se tourne vers la lecture de textes sur la maladie, le mal et la souffrance, qui se revelent etre des remedes inadaptes mais de bons revelateurs du rapport irreverencieux qu’entretient le texte de Roth au canon de la litterature europeenne. Cet article s’efforcera de cerner plus precisement la nature de cette irreverence litteraire, en montrant comment l’incorporation d’une influence suppose chez Roth une forme de destruction partielle a travers la transformation parodique ou burlesque. Nous tenterons neanmoins de montrer que la dynamique irreverencieuse de l’ecriture n’empeche pas une forme de sacralisation attachee a certaines zones de texte et d’experience.","PeriodicalId":43827,"journal":{"name":"REVUE FRANCAISE D ETUDES AMERICAINES","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79325975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The energies of the Love Instinct are pit up against the forces of the Death Drive in the arena of a constant confrontation of harrowing obscenity and transgression juxtaposed with distressing representations of the haunting of death and forebodings of suicide. Highly destabilizing, the text thus locks its reader in a theater of rejection and sympathy that does not leave him/her unscathed, and ultimately produces an experiment in form that helps understand why Roth considered it his best achievement.","PeriodicalId":43827,"journal":{"name":"REVUE FRANCAISE D ETUDES AMERICAINES","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80217778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Au travers, principalement, de l’etude d’une nouvelle de Sam Apple publiee en 2015 et d’un roman graphique publie par Anya Ulinich en 2014, on s’interessera a la facon dont les successeurs et disciples de l’auteur s’emploient a le mettre en scene et a le reinventer dans leur fiction, suivant un processus qui tient tout a la fois de l’hommage respectueux et de l’irreverence parodique. La demarche, par-dela toute anxiete de l’influence, procede d’une reflexion ironique sur les rapports entre fiction et metafiction ainsi que sur les ambiguites et les paradoxes inherents a toute representation de soi-meme et d’autrui.","PeriodicalId":43827,"journal":{"name":"REVUE FRANCAISE D ETUDES AMERICAINES","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79588566","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The secret which the narrative inquires about and discloses is not a mere, nor a unique reality, but an always already duplicated and complex one. Zuckerman’s novel, embedded in Roth’s, is the narrative of a passion that is not unrelated to what Jacques Derrida calls “the secret without secret” of literature. Nathan is a homodiegetic narrator whose witnessing and connection to the character of Coleman eventually takes on an unexpected and growing place in the narrative.","PeriodicalId":43827,"journal":{"name":"REVUE FRANCAISE D ETUDES AMERICAINES","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90491520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
