The purpose of this project was to decrease the 30-day sepsis readmission rate of a single medical surgical unit by increasing nurses’ knowledge on the challenges of sepsis survivorship. Design: A quality improvement project with a pre/post-test design was used. Methods: Nurses’ knowledge on sepsis survivorship and 30-day sepsis readmission rate of the unit at baseline and immediately after an educational intervention were compared. The intervention was an online educational module on sepsis survivorship. The SQUIRE guideline was used. Results: Results of the final sample showed a statistically significant improvement in nurses’ knowledge on sepsis survivorship. The effect of the intervention on 30- day sepsis readmission rate was inconclusive given the effect of the pandemic on readmission rate.","PeriodicalId":437824,"journal":{"name":"Austin Journal of Nursing & Health Care","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121067756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The role of the nurse is important because when monitoring the pregnancy, the nurse cooperates with a doctorspecialist in gynecology and monitors the physical and mental condition of the pregnant woman. Quality communication between the nurse and the pregnant woman is very important in order to recognize possible complications. Midwives play a similar role because they also participate in the continuous monitoring of the course of pregnancy. Midwives provide predictable and adaptive care and give women the information and advice they need. The art of midwifery consists of sensitivity to the needs of women and families therefore the midwife must be able to meet those needs in the most appropriate way.","PeriodicalId":437824,"journal":{"name":"Austin Journal of Nursing & Health Care","volume":"78 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131302092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
