{"title":"Power dynamics in dance movement therapy","authors":"Rachele Preda","doi":"10.1080/17432979.2021.1994010","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1080/17432979.2021.1994010","url":null,"abstract":"ABSTRACT This article investigates power dynamics in dance movement therapy (DMT), potential blind spots layered into the discourse about power in the profession, and underexplored aspects of the manifestation of power in the therapeutic setting. The research highlights a tendency in the field of DMT towards oppositional thinking and suggests the necessity to hold space for a non-binary approach to the matter. Current studies have shown the importance of this inclusion to heal maladaptive relational styles developed by individuals in their childhood. This study, in which six couples participated, investigates the effectiveness of a pedagogical programme to promote kinaesthetic empathy (KE).
