Malik, Raiha Aftab","doi":"10.22442/jlumhs.191810604","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.22442/jlumhs.191810604","url":null,"abstract":"OBJECTIVES: The study explored the moderated mediating role of gender on the relationship between positive and negative beliefs about rumination mediated by emotion oriented coping. METHODOLOGY: The research was a short survey. Data was collected from various institutes of Islamabad and Rawalpindi during 2015-2016. A total of 514 employed professionals from different organizations participated in the study. The questionnaires method was used. Responses were collected on Positive Beliefs about Rumination Scale, Negative Beliefs about Rumination Scales and Emotion Oriented Coping. Correlation analysis showed significant positive relationships among study variables (ranging from .32 to .40; p < .01). RESULTS: Results showed that direct path between negative beliefs about rumination and positive beliefs about rumination was found mediated by emotion oriented coping. The direct effects between positive beliefs about rumination and negative beliefs about rumination (β = .31, p < .01, ∆R= .23), and the indirect effects between positive and negative beliefs about rumination through emotionoriented coping (β = .10, p < .05, ∆R = .18) disclosing mediating effects of emotion oriented coping. CONCLUSION: Emotional coping was thus found to be a process through which individuals can ‘let go of’ factors that may be causing them stress and they can attain a temporary sense of calm. Previous research had hinted upon the cathartic nature of emotional coping but it wasn’t clear whether the relationship would be significant or not. The current research is step towards providing empirical evidence for this relationship. Secondly, the article specifies the direction of the relationship between positive beliefs about rumination, emotion oriented coping and negative beliefs about rumination.","PeriodicalId":43685,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77967992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

METHODOLOGY: Data were collected by a researcher-made and standard questionnaires based on HPM and added constructs of self-regulation, counter-conditioning, and stimulus control questionnaire regarding stretching exercise behavior among office employees working in comprehensive service centers affiliated to SBUMS. A multistage cluster sampling from May to Sep 2017 was done. To determinants the factors which effect on doing stretching exercise behavior; regression analysis was done through using SPSS 19 software. RESULTS: Totally 420 office employees with mean age of 37.1±8.03 years participated in this study. Perceived barriers to action (B =-0.106, P<0.001), could prevent the studied participants from engaging in SE. However, perceived self efficacy (B = 0.172, P < 0.001), commitment to a plan of action (B = 0.173, P=0.016), interpersonal influences (B = 0.099, P=0.003), and stimulus control (B = 0.193, P=0.007) were significant determinants for SE behavior. CONCLUSION: This study showed that the office employees who were more perceived self efficacy, commitment to a plan of action, interpersonal influences, stimulus control and less perceived barriers were more likely to perform stretching exercise.","PeriodicalId":43685,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences","volume":"35 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86508415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was conducted in the antenatal care clinics of three allied hospitals of Rawalpindi medical University, Rawalpindi. A total of 400 pregnant women in third trimester of pregnancy, attending antenatal care clinics were included in the study through consecutive sampling. Antenatal knowledge was assessed by a valid (scale-content validity index=1.00) and reliable (Cronbach’s alpha=0.90) questionnaire developed for this purpose. SPSS 22 was used for data analysis. RESULTS: Out of 400 pregnant women, majority 148 (37%) were in the age group of 23-27 years. Mean age was 26.5±4.8 years. Mean antenatal knowledge score was 28±6.2. Two hundred and sixty-eight (67%) women had poor (˂70% score), ninety-six (24%) had adequate (70%-80% score) and thirty-six (9%) had good (˃80% score) level of antenatal knowledge. Three hundred and sixty (90%) women had poor nutritional and gestational weight gain knowledge. Antenatal knowledge scores were significantly associated with education, number of antenatal care visits, locality and monthly household income. One to one education was preferred format by most (53%) of women. Doctors were the preferred source of information by 80% of the participants.CONCLUSION: The findings of the study indicate that most of the pregnant women lack the adequate antenatal knowledge while one to one education given by doctors was the preferred mode of health education by the majority of the participants. METHODOLOGY: The descriptive-analytic studywas conducted in which medical students of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences were participated. To collect data, a two-part questionnaire was used, included 18 questions about how bad news were communicated, and 40 questions based on scenarios of students' skills with bad news communication according to the SPIKES step protocol. Data were analyzed using SPSS software and independent T-test. RESULTS: The findings showed that students had the most proficiency in the fifth step of the SPIKES (recognizing and expressing sympathy with patient), and the least skill in the 3 phase of the SPIKES (examining the patient's readiness to receive all or part of the news). A statistical significant difference between skill and performance based on work experiences was observed (F=3.98, P=0.02). However, the data show no significant difference between skill and performance based on characteristic factors i.e. age and gender. CONCLUSION: According to the SPIKES, students' skills in informing “Bad News” are not at an optimal level. They did not receive the necessary training to notify bad news. Sophisticated students, with more work experience have more skill in informing “Bad News”. The training of the “Bad News” informing skills should be on focus to education professionals.","PeriodicalId":43685,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90291722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
