The main results of the paper are a characterization of a selfdecomposable distribution and a formulation of a Poisson random sum of power contractions. These results are established by incorporating a type of stochastic integral for a continuous in probability, homogeneous stochastic process with independent increments, and the same type of stochastic integral for a compound Poisson stochastic process with positive jumps. Interpretations of the results in treatment of risks threatening various systems are also provided.","PeriodicalId":43670,"journal":{"name":"Iranian Journal of Mathematical Sciences and Informatics","volume":"48 1","pages":"97-103"},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83972640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We assumed the relationships between the parameters of the population dynamics of interacting self-oscillators using the Kuramoto model and the fiber fuse propagation, and found an equation describing the power dependence of the periodic cavity interval. The experimentally determined cavity intervals at (P_{th} leq P_0 leq 5) W satisfied this equation. Furthermore, the experimental cavity intervals at (P_0 >6) W can be explained by considering the power dependence of the propagation velocity of the fiber fuse and the constant period of the Van der Pol oscillator.","PeriodicalId":43670,"journal":{"name":"Iranian Journal of Mathematical Sciences and Informatics","volume":"80 1","pages":"271-288"},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81546673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The given second order singularly perturbed delay differential equation is replaced by a pair of first order problems. These are in turn solved by initial value solvers. The integration of these initial value problems goes in the opposite direction. The applicability of this method is demonstrated by solving some model problems and the numerical results are compared with the exact solution. From the tables and figures, it is observed that the present method produces satisfactory results.","PeriodicalId":43670,"journal":{"name":"Iranian Journal of Mathematical Sciences and Informatics","volume":"14 1","pages":"289-297"},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86497144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Key in the analysis of the model is the derivation of the critical trapping rate, that is, the threshold above which extinction of the banana weevils is a possibility. The existence of the saddle-node bifurcation is investigated. It is established that the stability of the equilibria is dependent on the relative sizes of the intrinsic growth rate and the carrying capacity. It is also found out that when the trapping rate exceeds the critical value, the model displays chaotic behavior and the trapping of the adult banana weevils in isolation can only provide short term relief. Thus a management package that targets all developmental stages of the banana weevils would be more effective. Numerical simulations are performed and agree with the analytical results.","PeriodicalId":43670,"journal":{"name":"Iranian Journal of Mathematical Sciences and Informatics","volume":"45 1","pages":"173-187"},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2020-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84557590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through this technique we were able to deal with the random variable in the presence of a nonlinear function. The idea of this technique is based on assuming that the nodal coefficients are functions of the random variable. Then by discretization of the random variable and using fitting over the discretized values of the random variable, and utilizing the shape functions of the finite element method, we get the approximate solution as a function in both space and random variable. Some numerical examples, in different domains, are presented to show the effectiveness of this technique.","PeriodicalId":43670,"journal":{"name":"Iranian Journal of Mathematical Sciences and Informatics","volume":"40 1","pages":"233-246"},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2020-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81738607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
