A Steiner inellipse, defined in a triangle, is the maximum-area inellipse of the triangle, and the ratio of the area of the triangle and its Steiner inellipse is constant. Also, the Steiner inellipse satisfies Marden’s theorem. In this study, we expanded the Steiner inellipse, which was defined in triangles, to a quadrilateral and researched its existence and properties—along with the absence of Marden’s Theorem. Through this study, the following results were obtained. First, we found that a quadrilateral in which its Steiner inellipse exists is a parallelogram. Second, we discovered that the Steiner inellipse of a quadrilateral is the maximum-area inellipse of the quadrilateral. Thus, we proved that there was a constant ratio between the area of the Steiner inellipse and the area of the quadrilateral. Third, we showed that Marden’s theorem of quadrilaterals holds. That is, the relationship between the four vertices of the quadrilateral and the two focal points of the Steiner inellipse was found. Fourth, we unveiled a method of drawing the Steiner inellipse of a given quadrilateral. It is expected to contribute to the development of mathematics by expanding mathematical concepts just as we expanded the Steiner inellipse—which was only defined in triangles—to quadrilaterals. In addition, it is expected that further research on the expansion of the Steiner inellipse will be actively carried out through this study.","PeriodicalId":436249,"journal":{"name":"Korean Science Education Society for the Gifted","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116095109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Teachers’ perceptions of students impact their decision on how they practice instruction in their classrooms. The issue of how to respond to the gifted students’ various academic needs within academically diverse classrooms is one of the central challenges of teaching. The purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions of undergraduate- elementary education majors at an elementary teacher education university. The 49 pre-service teachers who enrolled in the science gifted education course were involved in the survey. According to the finding of this survey, pre-service elementary teachers perceived that an effective way to identify gifted students is hardly to look for students with the highest grades. They depicted that in teaching gifted students, all students won’t need to use the same processes and don’t have to generate the same projects as well. They have a quite proper attitudes towards the science gifted education in general. However the pre-service teachers showed low confidence in teaching the science gifted students. The implications of the study concerning needs of gifted elementary teachers were discussed.","PeriodicalId":436249,"journal":{"name":"Korean Science Education Society for the Gifted","volume":"7 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128851925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this research, 94 students who received gifted education from March to December 2021 were surveyed by setting elements and criteria for evaluating satisfaction of gifted programs based on previous studies and revising and supplementing questions. As a result of factor analysis, five factors influencing the gifted program were derived: ‘Teaching contents’, ‘Teaching methods’, ‘Educational effects’, ‘Teacher’, and ‘Perception of the program’. As a result, multiple regression analysis was conducted to understand the relationship, the higher the educational effect and overall satisfaction. As a result of the interview, students were satisfied with the subject that science gifted programs dealt with new fields that they had never encountered in the regular curriculum, had a lot of self-directed opportunities to experiment on their own, and were familiar with class materials in real life. Based on these results, the directions to develop gifted programs in the future were suggested.","PeriodicalId":436249,"journal":{"name":"Korean Science Education Society for the Gifted","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125591140","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Any triangle or convex quadrilateral has an infinite number of inscribed ellipses (Agarwal, Clifford, & Lachance, 2015). In the case of triangles, there is an inscribed ellipse with the focus on any point inside (Park, Park, & Cho, 2020), while the set of points that can be the focus of the inscribed ellipse of a parallelogram forms a specific trace (Park, Park, & Cho, 2021). Therefore, in the case of convex quadrilaterals other than parallelogram, there was a question about how the traces of the focus of the inscribed ellipse were drawn, and among those quadrilateral, the nature of the focus was investigated for the inscribed ellipse of the kite. As a result, in this study, it was proved that these three propositions are equivalent to each other: the point is the focus of the inscribed ellipse; four points, that each is symmetrical to the point for one of the sides, lie on the same circle; the point is a square focus. Based on this, the traces of the focal point of the inscribed ellipse of the kite were shown to be the diagonal which is the axis of symmetry, and the arc that passes through incenter and two vertices that not on the axis of symmetry. Furthermore, using the traces, it could be proved that the only inner ellipse of the regular polygon with 5 or more sides was the incircle, which is meaningful in that it showed the uniqueness of the inscribed ellipse in a different way from the existing projective geometric approach (Agarwal, et al., 2015).","PeriodicalId":436249,"journal":{"name":"Korean Science Education Society for the Gifted","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133340301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, elementary school gifted students who are enrolled in the university-affiliated science gifted education institute and receive education have read and classified the inquiry questions among the questions written in the science, math, and information domains. Based on the results, the characteristics of the exploratory questions written by the students by gifted area and book were identified. In addition, through the evaluation scores given by four evaluators, the ability of elementary school gifted students to form inquiry questions was also examined. As a result of the study, it was found that the types of generative inquiry questions were different for each gifted field and the evaluation scores were also different. Based on the research results, implications related to book selection, prior guidance, and feedback of evaluation results were drawn in relation to the guidance of question-forming reading activities for gifted students.","PeriodicalId":436249,"journal":{"name":"Korean Science Education Society for the Gifted","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133774601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
