We employ a frequency-domain iterative DFE (Decision Feedback Equalization) denoted by Iterative Block-Decision Frequency Equalization (IB-DFE), which is combined with a Decision-directed (DD) Carrier Frequency Offset (CFO) estimator. This estimator produces a CFO estimate plus compensation within each iteration of the equalizer. We develop a model to predict the performance of IB-DFE receivers with joint detection and carrier frequency synchronization. Likewise, we propose a graphical tool allowing to predict the number of iterations needed to reach a given Bit Error Rate (BER) and the value of the BER for each iteration.","PeriodicalId":436215,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133079360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, its centralized implementation, with a fusion center collecting all the samples, is inefficient in terms of energy consumption, scalability, and fault tolerance. Previous distributed approaches reduce the communication cost, but not the lack of flexibility, as they require multi-hop communications if the network is not fully connected. We present two fully distributed consensus-based algorithms that are guaranteed to converge to the global results, using only local communications among neighbors, regardless of the data distribution or the sparsity of the network: CB-DPCA is based on finding the eigenvectors of local covariance matrices, while CB-EM-DPCA is a distributed version of the expectation maximization algorithm. Both offer a flexible trade-off between the tightness of the achieved approximation and the associated communication cost.","PeriodicalId":436215,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"241 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133579942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present first of all three techniques of blind frame synchronization based on the non-binary parity check matrix of RS codes. While the first two techniques involve the calculation of hard and soft values of the syndrome elements respectively, the third one perform an adaptation step of the parity check matrix before applying the soft criterion. Although RS codes are constructed from non-binary symbols, we show in this paper that it is also possible to synchronize them using the binary image expansion of their parity check matrix. Simulation results show that the synchronization algorithm based on the adaptation of the binary parity check matrix of RS codes has the best synchronization performance among all other techniques. Furthermore, the Frame Error Rate (FER) curves obtained after synchronization and decoding are very close to the perfect synchronization curves.","PeriodicalId":436215,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127804389","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim is to design transmitter and receiver beamformers for multiple secondary users (SUs) while ensuring interference leakage to multiple primary users (PUs) is below a prescribed threshold. We use an iterative approach to design the receiver beamformers and transmitter beamformers so that SINRs achieved by all SUs are balanced and maximized. Due to the limited cooperation between secondary basestation (SBS) and PUs, we assume the channel state information (CSI) between the SBS and PUs is imperfect. Hence a robust beamformer design has been used to ensure the interference leakage to PU is below the specific threshold for all possible errors in the CSI.","PeriodicalId":436215,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124196720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this article, we develop a comprehensive statistical framework to study the transmission capacity (TC) of the primary network in the presence of collocated CRN operating under self-coexistence constraint. Considering a system model based on stochastic geometry and the primary beacon enabled interweave spectrum sharing model, outage probability (OP) of a typical primary receiver is studied. Scaling laws for the OP of a typical primary receiver are established. With the help of simulations it is shown that TC of the primary network decreases with increasing number of secondary users and degree of the self-coexistence.","PeriodicalId":436215,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117185679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It allows full-rate and full-diversity communication and can be decoded with a linear complexity when using two transmit and one receive antennas. However, these advantages assume no interbloc interference (IBI) and no intersymbol interference (ISI) which occur only if the Guard Interval (GI) size is larger than the channel length. In order to relax this condition and to increase the effective flow, we adopt firstly linear channel shortening techniques to reduce the length of the channel at the length of the GI. We show here that this technique is not efficient for a 2 × 1 system and we propose a new non linear method based on the knowledge of the first emitted symbol.","PeriodicalId":436215,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123976408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The work presented in this paper is valid for both amplify-and-forward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF) relaying schemes. First, we drive a communication model in such a way that the destination can see the received signals during the relaying slots as direct retransmissions from the source. We then present a multi-slot communication model where transmission over relaying slots is translated into virtual receive antennas and examine the outage probability of different relaying schemes. Using simulations, we show that this schemes outperform each other depending on the relays location and demonstrate that the multi-relay transmissions provide better diversity gain than the conventional hybrid-Automatic repeat request (ARQ).","PeriodicalId":436215,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125865871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The properties of channel encoding are exploited to derive an iterative Wiener-filter-based estimation method using both time and frequency channel correlation. The proposed algorithm can use either soft information or hard decisions fed back by the decoder to refine the channel estimation, so as to improve the system performance at the expense of an increased receiver complexity. Simulation results under typical working conditions are presented to compare the proposed method with classical techniques.","PeriodicalId":436215,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128412741","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a novel cooperation protocol is developed based on adaptive complex-field wireless network coding. Sources transmit new information symbols linearly combined with symbols previously-estimated from other sources, and weighted using a link adaptive power scaling coefficient. Different from existing wireless network coding protocols, transmissions are not restricted to binary symbols, do not need to be simultaneous, and allow for errors when estimating symbols transmitted from other sources. In a network with N sources, the developed protocol can achieve a throughput up to approximately 1=N symbols per source per channel use, as well as a diversity order of N. Simulated results corroborate the performance analysis of the protocol, showing gains with respect to traditional multi-source cooperation protocols.","PeriodicalId":436215,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128429108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This strategy consists in denoising both the observed and the estimated source signals, and is based on the minimization of a regularized criterion which takes into account the Total Variation of the signal. We prove by the way that the method leads to a projection problem which is solved by means of projected gradient algorithm. The effectiveness and the robustness of the proposed separating process are shown on numerical examples.","PeriodicalId":436215,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128224721","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
