Nowadays, the increasing popularity of smartphone devices equipped with multiple sensors (GPS, accelerometer, gyroscope) present an unprecedented opportunity to measure traffic, help users route around traffic jams and have a representation of the traffic conditions on the roads in real-time. In this paper, we present a new mobile application “Tari'ak” that intelligently learns about traffic conditions by turning every user into a traffic sensor. This takes place by measuring users' movement, speed, and location. By gathering all this data, the application can learn about traffic conditions in real-time and inform all users about the traffic conditions on the roads. This all takes place automatically without any user interference. If a user is not in transport, the application will power down its GPS use and therefore preserve battery power. Most importantly this prevents fraudulent reports by users reporting traffic manually as is the case with traditional and existing approaches. The result is an application that knows the traffic conditions on all traveled roads in real-time and offers it to users to help them avoid traffic jams. The traffic data can also be used to help users choose the fastest route between any two locations.","PeriodicalId":435905,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference and Workshop on the Network of the Future (NOF)","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131788034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In fact, client side storage can be achieved by external plugins, libraries or HTML5 APIS. It ensures a high user's quality of experience, offline application usage and server load reduction. In this work, we focus on the privacy and availability of confidential data explored by HTML5 Local Storage API. In our approach, the browser devotes to each user a secure space for data storage. Thus, all data will be stored safely in the client side before their synchronization over the different machines of the same user using the Cloud. As the HTML5 is standardized and adopted by the majority of recent versions of browsers, the data protection can be applied either on PC or on smart-phone for mobile Internet application.","PeriodicalId":435905,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference and Workshop on the Network of the Future (NOF)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116890852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first contribution is the introduction of a dynamic superframe size for efficient resource utilization. The second contribution adopts the use of a threshold concept and a flag metric, which jointly provide satisfaction and fairness among the requesting devices. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated and the results show that the proposed approach achieves good performance in terms of satisfaction and fairness.","PeriodicalId":435905,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference and Workshop on the Network of the Future (NOF)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123147412","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such a diversification in the computational context reinforces the need of personalized and adaptive media services towards better end-user experience. However, building context-aware media systems raises a number of challenges related to (i) context representation, management and provisioning (ii) binding context situations to services and (iii) performing context-driven service and content adaptation; and this in a dynamic, scalable and interoperable way. In this paper, we present a future Internet architecture1 that enables automated situation-driven media services' discovery, composition and delivery. The proposed solution relies on a new Home-Box layer among which the context-awareness and adaptation features are distributed.","PeriodicalId":435905,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference and Workshop on the Network of the Future (NOF)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122274755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the protocol itself is already quite old, its deployment has only recently picked up speed. Not so many Internet service providers offer direct IPv6 connectivity to their customers, yet. Clearly, when IPv6 is available to customers, they expect that IPv6 offers at least the same - or even better - stability of connections in comparison to IPv4. The main goal of this paper is to investigate whether this is true today. In our paper, we present up-to-date measurement results on the stability of IPv4 and IPv6 paths in the real Internet, based on machines that are distributed over a large geographical area, as part of the NORNET CORE testbed infrastructure for multi-homed systems. The measurements not only cover high-speed research networks, but also consumer-grade ADSL connections - i.e. the ISP connection types of “normal” end-users - as well as a broad range of different ISPs. The measurements show that IPv6 paths are less stable than corresponding IPv4 paths. We also find that the use of load balancing is more prevalent in IPv6 than in IPv4.","PeriodicalId":435905,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference and Workshop on the Network of the Future (NOF)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131643725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, we find it motivating to study the influence of TCP's initial window (IW) size on the response times of small flows. In our previous works, we proposed a function that determines IW-size for each flow based on its size; through game-theoretic analysis as well as experiments on real testbed, we observed that the size-based IW function (in comparison to a single constant IW size) shows considerable improvement in the performance of small flows, while at the same time not affecting the performance of large flows. In this paper, we share the experience of using some important open source tools for developing, experimenting and evaluating the proposed IW function. We implement the size-based IW function in the Linux kernel, version 3.7.4; we use ipfw/Dummynet for emulating links, open source tool called parallel for executing the application in parallel for generating TCP traffic, wireshark (along with lua script) for extracting metrics for performance analysis. Finally we evaluate the performance of flows using the IW function.","PeriodicalId":435905,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference and Workshop on the Network of the Future (NOF)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130728370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It requires an application to specify the desired transport protocol at the time of implementation. The drawback of this approach is: If new transport protocols are introduced, existing applications need to be modified in order to support them. Therefore applications should select abstract transport services rather than specific protocols. We propose Protocol-agnostic Services & Transport Enrichment (PASTE): An application-to-network middle-ware that pushes the protocol selection below the application layer based on the selected transport service. It also handles other networking functionality commonly done by applications, e.g., name-to-address resolution. To further enhance the offered transport services we also introduce intermediate Companion nodes within the network, to enrich different transport services with added functionality like, e.g., in-network data buffering or on-the-fly data compression.","PeriodicalId":435905,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference and Workshop on the Network of the Future (NOF)","volume":"343 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133071820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective is to enhance edge users' throughput and guaranty fairness among all users in the cell. Based on Reference Signal Receiving Power (RSRP) values collected from a set of collaborative base stations, users are classified into: cell edge or cell center. Then, a simple static power allocation technique is used. Neighboring cells coordinate their scheduling and resource allocation to improve edge users' throughput. To do so, we proposed a cooperation technique based on a dynamic Base Stations (BS)s clustering with a reduced signaling overhead. For scheduling purpose, we introduce a utility function which depends on users' classification, Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) feedback, interference generated by neighboring cells and fairness among users. The proposed ICIC and scheduling techniques present a trade-off between the implementation complexity, the overhead of signaling and the coordination level. Simulation results corroborate the efficiency of the proposed technique.","PeriodicalId":435905,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference and Workshop on the Network of the Future (NOF)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121844630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
