Works carried out within this scope deal with multiple topics and from different theoretical perspectives. Many epistemological debates have taken place on the definition of historical archaeology and the use of different sources of information. Conceptualizations should not be imposed uncritically, as local processes vary greatly. The topics developed in Argentina during the last 25 years reflect its maturity in the country and the diversity of problems that can be studied by this field of knowledge.","PeriodicalId":43560,"journal":{"name":"Post-Medieval Archaeology","volume":"54 1","pages":"211 - 228"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/00794236.2020.1812299","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45432430","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Besides discussing the disc’s possible provenance and age, the emphasis of this study is put on the signs. It is suggested that even if zodiac symbols were the main inspiration for carving signs onto this disc, the purpose was not to depict only the zodiac circle itself but the meaning of the whole composition derived from Early Modern astral magic. Thus, the main function of the disc was most probably to solicit the help of some spirits and secure benefits for the owner of the disc.","PeriodicalId":43560,"journal":{"name":"Post-Medieval Archaeology","volume":"54 1","pages":"121 - 132"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/00794236.2020.1812288","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42889341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study draws a detailed biography of the Officers’ Barracks at Tilbury Fort, analyzing the importance of its domestic terraced form and highlighting the relevance of this case study to broader study of barrack buildings. The approach considers the building inextricable from its inhabitants and archaeological analysis of the fabric, internally and externally, reveals an institutional structure transformed into a ‘home’ by the privilege of the officers’ rank. The slow but steady development of a building constantly in use is etched into the fabric, as is the transient and diverse community that occupied it. The date and phasing of the structure is rethought as a consequence. This study demonstrates that this architectural type which is often presumed homogenous is actually subject to complex themes of social status and gender.","PeriodicalId":43560,"journal":{"name":"Post-Medieval Archaeology","volume":"54 1","pages":"186 - 210"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/00794236.2020.1812292","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46329441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most notably, there was an increasing demand for ever larger areas of high-quality plate glass, for which the company became a significant supplier. The excavations provided the first opportunity to examine the material remains of a plate glass-works in Britain (and possibly the world) and, in particular, investigate the various technological and production processes involved.","PeriodicalId":43560,"journal":{"name":"Post-Medieval Archaeology","volume":"54 1","pages":"133 - 164"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/00794236.2020.1812289","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46237697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multisource methods such as triangulation of written documents, historical maps and archaeological evidence are used to study the living conditions, vulnerability and marginalization of boarders and inhabitants of rural slums from an environmental justice perspective. Being poor also meant being more exposed to risks than people with greater resources and having fragile safety nets. Marginalization could offer new possibilities to the poor, but also weaker security nets and increased vulnerability.","PeriodicalId":43560,"journal":{"name":"Post-Medieval Archaeology","volume":"54 1","pages":"165 - 185"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/00794236.2020.1812291","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42851739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
