For many deaf individuals in Thailand who are born into hearing-abled families, access to the expert assistance they need to learn communication skills does not begin until their first years of compulsory education. By that time, academically, they are already many years behind their hearing-abled peers. The present study employed an experimental research design to investigate the influence of computer-assisted language learning technology, DeafReader, on the vocabulary skills of deaf students in Thailand. After a six-week intervention, one-way ANOVA analysis showed no significant difference in pre-test and post-test scores between the treatment and control groups. Additional analysis found a significant difference in performance between male and female students. Age differences in the acquisition of foundation language skills between genders were considered to be an influencing factor in the results of this study. The author concludes that students may have lacked the basic language skills needed for technology intervention to be effective. The author recommends examining the effects on an older age group and exploring the use of DeafReader as a learning tool for fingerspelling, sign language, and mapping text to sign.","PeriodicalId":43547,"journal":{"name":"SOJOURN-Journal of Social Issues in Southeast Asia","volume":"32 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89380698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, problems, like a lack of teaching experience, job turnover, low performance, satisfaction, etc. also come out. Based on this situation this study investigates the effect of perceived support on their work outcomes. This paper analyzes the situation of Chinese teachers in Thai schools through a questionnaire. Further, it explores the current situation and problems of Chinese teachers in Thailand combined with a literature research method. The results show that perceived organizational support has a significant positive impact on work outcomes. In contrast, it has a significant positive impact on job performance but no significant impact on job satisfaction. The influence of perceived supervisor support on work outcomes is also significant. Whether for Chinese teachers’ job performance or job satisfaction, it has a significant positive impact. Organizational-based self-esteem moderates the effect of perceived organizational support on work outcomes. However, it did not moderate the impact of perceived colleague support on job satisfaction. From the perspective of perceived organization support, we construct the conceptual model of perceived organization support, coworker support, superior support and job satisfaction and performance to reveal the impact mechanism of perceived organization support on job satisfaction, and performance. We also test the moderating effect of organizational-based self-esteem on the influence of independent variables on dependent variables.","PeriodicalId":43547,"journal":{"name":"SOJOURN-Journal of Social Issues in Southeast Asia","volume":"47 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79257380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Gems and Jewelry are products that have contributed to Chanthaburi’s long-standing renown but have not yet been recognized for GI. The principles are to 1) investigate the entrepreneurial viewpoints regarding the belief that GI will increase the value of its products, 2) contrast the views of those products toward the use of GI to boost value and inspire confidence in customers, 3) examine the link between variables influencing the value added of gems and jewelry products with GI. In-depth interviews were used as the research methodology. Data was gathered from 14 owners of Small and Medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in gems and jewelry businesses who were required to be members of the Chanthaburi Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (CGA). The finding revealed that entrepreneurs support and encourage the registration of GI for gems and jewelry products to increase the company’s reliability, boost product market value, and foster customer trust. Gems and jewelry entrepreneurs in Chanthaburi trust GI to add value; therefore, GI is a tool that may be utilized to enhance the worth of gems and jewelry products. Plus, it increases consumers’ trust in the product’s origin and quality.","PeriodicalId":43547,"journal":{"name":"SOJOURN-Journal of Social Issues in Southeast Asia","volume":"49 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79170447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper gives a case study of extra support provided by mobile special and rehabilitative educators to students deemed by their schools to need further assistance in reaching their goals but who are not recognized as having special needs in Bangladesh. A qualitative case study featured nine students and nine mobile CFP students who participated in the school throughout the 2017-18 school year survey. In this study, the author was interested in understanding the notion of inclusion and whether or not student assistance was currently in place would not only target additional professionals to assist the student, In the event of learning difficulties or special needs but also take into account the individual’s original environment (assistance to the child’s parents or guardians) and overall social inclusion. The present study evaluated the help and support given to students whose program orientation for students with special needs has not yet been determined but whom, according to practitioners, would benefit from additional support and incentives to increase their participation in the educational process. However, the paper discovered a fragmented view of inclusion and an emphasis on student participation. Despite positive results, developing less exclusive behaviors remains an Idabel obstacle.","PeriodicalId":43547,"journal":{"name":"SOJOURN-Journal of Social Issues in Southeast Asia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88595374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This concept is applied to gift giving strategies that used to establish positive consumer and brand relationships. However, these strategies may not result in pleasurable outcomes in all cases because they entail consumer psychological damage such as dissatisfaction and indebtedness. With a different perspective, this study investigates how negative gift giving experiences impact consumer and brand relationships. Online questionnaires were used to collect data in Thailand. Structural equation modelling results showed that negative gift giving experiences cause consumer dissatisfaction and consumer indebtedness. These feelings lead to brand hate and brand avoidance. The results also revealed the mediating role of consumer indebtedness. The results contribute theoretical insight into brand relationships and lead to recommendations on marketing practice.","PeriodicalId":43547,"journal":{"name":"SOJOURN-Journal of Social Issues in Southeast Asia","volume":"31 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83850900","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, educational technology has been affected in recent years (e.g., e-learning particularly, contemporary literature teaching and learning dimension). The study aimed to investigate Thai and American perspectives on implementing the instructional design in the Contemporary Literature course regarding content and teaching styles, and potential improvements in teaching and learning skills. The participants were two teachers from two institutes in Thailand and the United States of America who had experience in teaching literature for decades. A semi-structured interview was utilized to gather information about the participants’ views. Each interview lasted approximately 30 minutes. All interviews were audio recorded and later transcribed for analysis. Data were analyzed using a thematic coding method to find significant statements related to the research questions. The findings regarding content and teaching styles indicated that the American participant thought she put the focus on the technological aspect of educating students about the values of physical activity with connection to the indigenous authors’ lifestyles and lifelong learning to promote the learners’ dreams and enjoyment (i.e. self-awareness with global skills). The Thai participant emphasized encouraging the learners to develop good attitudes to become critical readers (i.e., 21st_ century skills). However, peer teaching, cooperative learning, direct instruction, demonstration, and feedback, personal responsibility were highlighted as implemented standards provided by the participants from both countries. Overarching learning goals of contemporary literature course are to initiate and encapsulate the key messages into the framework with transformative competencies; reviews the nature of the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that young learners will need; and ends with possible curriculum design principles.","PeriodicalId":43547,"journal":{"name":"SOJOURN-Journal of Social Issues in Southeast Asia","volume":"56 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72470645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
