It hypothesizes that alliances were formed among parties that are ideologically compatible and could not individually overcome the electoral threshold. Contrary to the established theory in the field, the data collected and analyzed from February to May 2018 reveal that ideological and programmatic similarities were not the primary factor that influenced the party leaders’ decision to cooperate with others. {"title":"The Challenge of Unintelligible Life: Critical Security Studies’ Failure to Account for Violence Against Queer People","authors":"Alexander Stoffel","doi":"10.22151/POLITIKON.38.3","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.22151/POLITIKON.38.3","url":null,"abstract":"This article grapples with the inability of Critical Security Studies (CSS) to see and account for violence against queer people. It locates the absence of theorizing on anti-queer violence within existing critical security approaches in the failure to apprehend them as intelligible subjects or livable lives. It demonstrates these theoretical limitations through an exploration of Foucauldian frameworks within CSS, which inform dominant approaches to understanding violence. It also argues that the inability of CSS to account for anti-queer violence can be traced back to the presumption of an intelligible subject of violence on which any theoretical framework necessarily relies. The impossibility to account for anti-queer violence, due to the very nature of ‘queerness’, provides fruitful avenues for thought within CSS. Even though the country receives 2400mm (average) rainfall per year, the use of rainwater is undermined by the water governance system and by the increasing dependence on contaminated groundwater. Based on this argument, this paper explores how can rainwater be used to reduce the freshwater crisis problem in coastal Bangladesh? This paper focuses on the climate-induced water poverty approach based on fieldwork experiences in Chilla, coastal Bangladesh. The findings indicate that the majority of the population living in Chilla, like many other coastal communities, has been facing severe freshwater poverty which, in turn, makes them economically poorer. Brito","doi":"10.22151/politikon.37.2","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.22151/politikon.37.2","url":null,"abstract":"This paper engages with the philosophical underpinnings of the Beijing Conference on women’s rights that took place in 1995. Drawing on Derrida’s concept of undecidability – which becomes here both a method of analysis and a political strategy – it critiques the universalising aspects of Beijing’ 95’s. In so doing, it aims to provide a remodelled strategy for a feminist global politics, one that be able to maintain feminism on the undecidable terrain of the binaries ‘Woman/Man’, and ‘Woman/women’. This strategy, it is argued, allows the project to be at once open to difference/particularism and always prepared to universalise its aims, offering women the possibility of fighting as ‘humans or women’, and as a ‘universal woman or particular women’.
