Statistical analysis was performed using <em>p</em>-value. <em>Results:</em> A total of three hundred and seventy-five medical students were recruited, and more than half of them had acne vulgaris (<em>n</em>: 208; 55.5%) with less than one third of them being diagnosed by a physician. Most of the female students (<em>n</em>: 75; 61%) dealt with acne as a significant medical condition when compared with only third (<em>n</em>: 87; 34%) of the male students (<em>P</em> <!--><<!--> <!-->0.05). Eighty-nine female students (72%) believed more than male students (<em>n</em>: 104; 41%) that stressful environment played a significant role in acne vulgaris (<em>p</em> <!-->><!--> <!-->0.05). One hundred and twelve male students (44.8%) believed more than females (<em>n</em>: 39; 31%) that acne affects their marriage prospectus <em>p</em> <!--><<!--> <!-->0.05. <em>Conclusion:</em> Interestingly, more than half of our sample population was affected by acne vulgaris with two thirds of them not seeking for medical advice. {"title":"Pattern of skin disease in Hail region of Saudi Arabia","authors":"Fawwaz Al Shammrie, Amirah Al Shammrie","doi":"10.1016/j.jdds.2017.04.001","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.jdds.2017.04.001","url":null,"abstract":"<div><h3>Objective</h3><p>To know the most common types of skin diseases in Hail region and compare it with similar studies in other previous study in Hail region.</p></div><div><h3>Methods</h3><p>A 10 month retrospective study of the common skin diseases, which was recorded in King Khalid Hospital, Hail, Saudi Arabia, within the period started from 1–1–2008 to 31–12–2014 with missing two years during this period 2010–2011 for totally 5 years, from registration record of outpatient clinic.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>We recorded manually from registration record 13778 patients, comprising 5473 (40%) male and 8305 (60%) female within the study period. Eczema is the most common dermatological disease (37%) with atopic dermatitis forming (12%) among all eczema patients, followed by acne (20%), alopecia (8%),other pigmentary (7%) with vitiligo comprising (7%) which is the most common pigmentary lesion of the total, viral wart (7%), psoriasis (4%), leishmania (4%),Tinea (2%), other pilosebaceous (1%) and the other (3%).</p></div><div><h3>Conclusion</h3><p>Dermatitis, acne, vitiligo, alopecia, viral wart and psoriasis are the most common top six skin diseases in hail region compared to other previous study in Hail region. In conventional FUE technique of hair transplantation graft damage may occur due to various factors which can be eliminated by Instant Follicular Hair Unit Transplant (IFHUT), an innovative technique which involves extraction of hair follicle one by one from the safe donor area and implanting them immediately after extraction. <em>Methods</em>: 10 patients of andro-genetic alopecia were inducted to the study. It is caused by several pigmented fungi commonly seen in tropical and sub-tropical regions. Here, we report a case of chronic cutaneous chromoblastomycosis in a middle aged man from the southern part of Jizan, Saudi Arabia, who presented to our derma clinic with verrucous cauliflower like growth on the right hand. Later on, histopathological study showed pathognomonic characteristic brown colored spores (copper pennies or medlar bodies) of the fungus within dermal abscess. The patient was cured after a 6<!--> <!-->month combination use of itraconazole and cryotherapy. PF describes a clinico-pathological entity of dermal microvascular thrombosis associated with disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and perivascular hemorrhage occurring in the newborn period. Here we describe a newborn with PF due to severe congenital protein C deficiency. The lesions started 5<!--> <!-->h after birth but the infant was brought to our emergency department 20<!--> <!-->h later. The infant was admitted in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and treated with fresh frozen plasma (FFP), enoxaparin along with other supportive cares.
