Game theory is a traditional tool of analysis in international relations and relevant game theoretic models include the prisoner's dilemma, and the North-South divide. The complexity approach to world politics, taking place on a highly interconnected global network of actors organized as agents and meta-agents, constitutes a multiplayer extension of game theory that may help with understanding and anticipating global events. Technology, interconnections, feedback and individual empowerment are important characteristics of the complex world of global politics. Evolution and adaptation are related to the concept of fitness of the actors in world politics. Many events of world politics constitute emergent phenomena of the complex international community of state and non-state actors and may be simulated with agent-based modeling, arguably the most prevalent method of simulating complex systems. Characteristic research works from social science, political science, defense, world politics and the global environment that utilize agent-based simulation, are reviewed. The paper is concluded with a recapping of the main points, suggestions and caveats for future directions.","PeriodicalId":433872,"journal":{"name":"2015 6th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129887473","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the game is to motivate primary school students to discover the buildings of tobacco warehouses of a city in western Greece, which have historical, architectural and cultural value, and explore their relationship with the economic, cultural development of the city. To achieve this, specific groups of students undertake three roles: the historian, the architect and the journalist. The game was designed in accordance with principles of the theory of situated learning and the theory of constructivism. The scenario of the game was evaluated by a group of five teachers and 21 students of primary education.","PeriodicalId":433872,"journal":{"name":"2015 6th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129588813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This transformation is heavily dependent on ICT, where a huge network of interconnected sensors and other devices is deployed to monitor many aspects of urban life in real-time. Recently, Solanas et al. [1] introduced the concept of Smart Health (s-Health) in which the resources of a smart city are exploited to facilitate the provision of healthcare services to citizens. In this position paper we explore the potentials of s-Health in stress management, providing a conceptual framework which could be used not only to monitor the stress level, but to provide more advanced ICT intervention.","PeriodicalId":433872,"journal":{"name":"2015 6th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA)","volume":"05 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129645255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is the reason why optimization of automation systems is deployed to improve productivity, quality and robustness of the production. The different existing goals of optimization as the control machine, management of the power consumption, design of electrical installation and prediction of motor faults lead to the necessity of estimating the induction machine parameters (the stator and rotor resistances, the stator and rotor inductances and the magnetizing inductance). To these ends, researchers and companies are investigating efficient methods to identify these parameters. In this paper, we propose an effective method for the induction machine parameters identification based on the new θ-NSGA III genetic algorithm. A comparison between a classic single objective genetic algorithm (GA) and two well-known multi-objectives GAs (NSGA II and θ-NSGA III) is performed. Our results show that the multi-objective GA θ-NSGA III provides a better estimation of parameters than the classic single objective GA and the multi-objective GA NSGA II.","PeriodicalId":433872,"journal":{"name":"2015 6th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125339229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both islands have a significant natural and cultural heritage and constitute part of the Natura 2000 Network. Zakynthos is protected for its biodiversity and its landscape and the Strofades islands belong to the National Marine Park of Zakynthos. The forest character of both areas constitutes a common base for a proposal for their alternative and sustainable development. Because of recurrent fires, the currently occurring degradation of woodland area at the west coast of Zakynthos demonstrates the importance of supporting and promoting natural and cultural heritage of the area, so as to ensure its protection and conservation, as well as its sustainable environmental and socio-economic development. Regarding Strofades, it constitutes a significant sequestered ecosystem, an important habitat for different species, hosting the only forest in Greece with Juniperus phoenicea. The present study mapped and recorded the environmental and cultural characteristics of Zakynthos and Strofades (ecosystems, biodiversity, landscape, soundscape, culture), to propose a compiled model for an alternative sustainable development.","PeriodicalId":433872,"journal":{"name":"2015 6th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA)","volume":"42 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126665860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We also accelerate this algorithm by following two completely different approaches. First, we split the initial grid structure into multiple partitions with uniform weather conditions, in order to reduce the complexity of routing through them. Second, we transform the initially used label setting multi-objective algorithm into a multi-objective A* algorithm and give an efficient heuristic function for doing so. Our experiments show that there is a significant speedup of the algorithm, especially in the second case, where the run time is reduced substantially.","PeriodicalId":433872,"journal":{"name":"2015 6th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126873072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The coupling of the communication services offered by the grid, with an administration layer and conventional web server programming, via a data synchronization utility, leads to the straightforward development of a web-based user interface that allows the monitoring and managing of diverse online distributed computing applications. Finally, we present some experimental results to underline the scale of experiments we view as indicative of such a platform. Our implementation has been developed and can be deployed over existing grid infrastructures without compromising security.","PeriodicalId":433872,"journal":{"name":"2015 6th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA)","volume":"131 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134327647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
