In the evaluation of the angular dependence of reflection loss due to the human body, losses of approximately −20 dB to −30 dB were observed. The blockage loss by a human wearing a shirt and a human wearing a down coat was approximately −26dB and −23dB, respectively. In order to suppress grating lobes radiated from a slot array arranged at a spacing of one guided wavelength of the waveguide, it is proposed to arrange dual-ring MSAs with a circumference of approximately 5 wavelengths on the slot array with a dielectric substrate. In this paper, a dual-ring parallelogram MSA excited by an inclined slot on a narrow wall of the waveguide is designed as an element of a 45-degree linearly-polarized planar array by using ANSYS HFSS. The design frequency is 11.2 GHz and an X-band standard waveguide is used. The proposed antenna consists of two split ring patches arranged concentrically and a feeding L-shaped probe (L-probe) placed on a single-layer dielectric substrate. The two patches are excited by the L-probe and resonate at two different frequencies. In order to realize wideband operation, a thick dielectric substrate with a thickness of approximately 0.1 wavelengths is used. The design frequencies of the proposed antenna are around 9 GHz and 15 GHz. In this paper, the structural parameters of the proposed antenna are tuned by using ANSYS HFSS so as to obtain dual-band and wideband operation at the two design frequencies. The simulated results reveal that fractional bandwidths of less than −10 dB reflection for the two bands are approximately 10%. Two horizontal and stepped-impedance (SI) open-circuited slot structure as the radiator are etched in the ground plane and two T -shaped microstrip lines as the feeding line are placed above the horizontal open-slots. A vertical and SI open-circuited slot is also embedded in the ground plane to excite circular polarization around 2.4 GHz and to improve mutual coupling between the two horizontal open-slots. To enhance circular polarization at 5-GHz band, two pairs of two closed slots are etched in the upper and lower parts of the ground plane. From the measured results of the proposed antenna module, the −10 dB impedance bandwidths range from1.72 to 3.93 GHz and from 4.67 to 6.39 GHz. In addition, the in-band isolation is larger than 16 dB. The proposed antenna provides dual-band circular polarization, which covers the triple-band wireless local area network (WLAN) applications, including 2.4, 5.2, and 5.8 GHz.
