The industry-wide accepted method for constructing such domains is to use exploration-based wireframes, limiting the accuracy of the domains by the sparsity of the exploration holes. Update of the domains using blast-hole data is highly desirable to increase the accuracy of the models and enable better decision making for downstream mining processes. We discuss some of the practical and theoretical problems of using existing boundaries created using exploration drill-hole data. We also propose using the blast-hole data to adjust ore to waste boundaries. The proposed methodology is evaluated on a dataset from an iron ore deposit located in the Brockman Iron Formation of the Hamersley Province, Western Australia, demonstrating important changes in multiple boundaries in this real-world mining dataset.","PeriodicalId":43298,"journal":{"name":"Applied Earth Science-Transactions of the Institutions of Mining and Metallurgy","volume":"129 1","pages":"14 - 9"},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/25726838.2019.1686102","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46107669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our data indicate that these lithological indices are useful for delineating quartz, feldspar or mafic minerals. Correlation matrices generated for various lithological indices indicate that both Guha's (GMI) and Ninomiya's (NMI) mafic indices yield nearly identical results. In addition, Guha's quartz index (GQI) yields significantly better results than Ninomiya's quartz index (NQI) during the identification of the quartz content. This study also shows that GQI is comparable with the Rockwall and Hofstra's quartz index (RHQI) for the identification of the quartz content. Hence, ASTER TIR data-based remote sensing indices play a key role in lithological mapping.","PeriodicalId":43298,"journal":{"name":"Applied Earth Science-Transactions of the Institutions of Mining and Metallurgy","volume":"129 1","pages":"3 - 8"},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/25726838.2019.1684018","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44192901","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The belt, forming an arrow-head geometry, is bounded by the Youanmi and Edale shear zones on its eastern and western margins, respectively. The belt has a total gold endowment, including historic production, resources and reserves, of approximately 62 t (2.0 Moz). Most known deposits are situated within a central-southern ultramafic domain, although this is likely a function of exploration focus. The distribution of historical exploration efforts and domaining of deposit types, based on litho-structural controls on ore formation, highlight the potential for significant undiscovered deposits, hosted within arrays of shear zones parallel and adjacent to the lithosphere-scale Youanmi and Edale shear zones.","PeriodicalId":43298,"journal":{"name":"Applied Earth Science-Transactions of the Institutions of Mining and Metallurgy","volume":"128 1","pages":"136 - 145"},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/25726838.2019.1674540","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47895233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A phased modelling process in MATLAB is conducted from the injection well to the ore body and from the ore body to the extraction well. Then a parametric identification of the injection and extraction wells is made, as well as the ore body itself. In addition, the hydraulic-resistance dependence of the bottom-hole zone on the flow rate of an injected solution in an injection well is determined and a technique is suggested for determination of the flow-pressure characteristics of the extraction well.","PeriodicalId":43298,"journal":{"name":"Applied Earth Science-Transactions of the Institutions of Mining and Metallurgy","volume":"128 1","pages":"158 - 166"},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/25726838.2019.1674021","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46742748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study presents an integrated, knowledge-driven prospectivity mapping approach to exploration in the glacial till-covered region of the Quesnel Terrane in British Columbia, Canada. The Quesnel Terrane hosts base and precious metal deposits; however, a ∼20,000 km2 area consisting of variably thick glacial overburden truncates surface exposure, likely masking buried deposits. Through a combined fuzzy logic and index overlay approach, geophysical, structural, and geochemical criteria were integrated into a prospectivity model. Three concealed porphyry Cu targets were identified in the till-covered region and were validated by statistical analysis of lake and stream sediment geochemistry. The process of integrating various geoscientific disciplines and identification of targets has provided valuable insight for future exploration in covered regions. Moreover, the adopted approach leverages open-source public datasets, highlighting advantages of utilising such datasets for regional-scale exploration.","PeriodicalId":43298,"journal":{"name":"Applied Earth Science-Transactions of the Institutions of Mining and Metallurgy","volume":"128 1","pages":"181 - 196"},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/25726838.2019.1675403","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43863788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
