We aimed to describe the scientific production of medicinal plants in LAC, using bibliometric and co-words analysis for original articles from three databases published from 1970 to 2020. We analyzed 14,397 original articles from Web of Science, Scielo, and LILACS databases. Annual scientific production of medicinal plants in LAC increased from 2000 to 2010 but remained constant. More than half of the included articles had authors from Brazilian institutions, but articles with authors from Cuban institutions had the highest rate of articles per million country inhabitants. LAC countries mostly collaborated with the United States and western Europe. Ilex paraguariensis A.St.-Hil., Uncaria tomentosa (Willd. ex Schult.) DC., and Baccharis trimera (Less.) DC. are the most frequently mentioned medicinal plants. We observed the anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antitumor, and antioxidant activity of medicinal plants assessed in these studies, mostly from basic and laboratory research. Overall, the scientific production of medicinal plants in LAC increased and assessed most of its main therapeutic effects. However, more efforts are needed to increase regional collaboration and promote clinical and translational research. These results could be valuable information for decision-makers and scientists to determine future research prioritization and funding.","PeriodicalId":43282,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Scientometric Research","volume":"53 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76600135","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Design/Methodology/Approach: We analyzed 152,727 scientific papers published between 2017-2018 by researchers working in Brazil. Findings: The coverage of Brazilian papers by Mendeley is relatively high (87.91%) and 63% of Brazilian papers had citations in Crossref. In the Brazilian context, Mendeley readership is relatively high (average R 2 reaching 70% in some areas). Originality/Value: The correlation between readers in Mendeley and citations in Crossref of Brazilian scientific output is between moderate and high. This indicates that Mendeley and Crossref data can be relevant for evaluating Brazilian science. The data reveal that Mendeley readership can, in many fields, predict citations. These data are generally higher and mor homogeneous than those found in the international researches. The scientific communication of international context (based on international journals) and Brazilian (heavily published in national open access journals) and the information sources used in the studies may partly explain the differences between them.","PeriodicalId":43282,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Scientometric Research","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82947623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

His papers have been highly cited and provided novel pathways for future research. He has published several books which has been of immense value to the research community. Many of his works have become part of the pedagogy of this field. The intellectual depth of his work, clarity, and daring approach has characterized his research. He has played a seminal role in conceptualizing the citation behavior, and co-citation patterns among others, and had taken a critical stance whenever needed in arguing the relevance and validity of bibliometric indicators. He has worked hard to bring novel methodology, new tools, and techniques to the field at large. This includes the development of network analysis techniques for studying the structure and evolution of scientific collaboration networks. He also developed the highly useful ‘Science Overlay Maps’ method, which uses network visualization techniques to identify research fronts and emerging topics in science. The tools and methodologies that he has developed have been widely shared in open access for the research community at large. https://www.leydesdorff.net/software.htm is a wonderful site that provides a rich repository of his work, a link to the openaccess software developed by him for undertaking various bibliometric research, mapping, visualization, etc.","PeriodicalId":43282,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Scientometric Research","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87879745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Associations between scholarly awards and academic productivity in neurosurgery have not been thoroughly investigated. We explore associations between JST awards and measures of academic productivity to evaluate the relationship between scholarly output, fellowship training, and awarded recognition. Demographic information was collected from public data of 1671 academic neurosurgeons comprising 115 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education accredited institutions. h -index was queried from Scopus. The mean-Relative Citation Ratio (RCR) and weighted-RCR were gathered from the NIH iCite database from 2002-2020. JST award reception was determined from the JST official resource. RCR, h -index, and NIH funding were compared between neurosurgeons who received JST awards and those who did not, using multivariable linear regression. Analysis showed w-RCR was higher among award recipients (β=15.02; 95% CI:4.741,25.29; p <0.01), while m-RCR was not significantly different (β=-0.049, 95%CI 0.2214,0.1238; p =0.5336). h -index was higher among award winners (β=2.155; 95% CI 1.164,3.147; p =0.0008). Award recipients also received greater NIH funding ( p <0.0001) and were positively associated with Oncology/Skull Base, General, and Radiosurgery subspecialty training. Receiving a JST award may be correlated with a more productive research career and establishes benchmark metrics for JST award winning. To our knowledge, this is one of the first analyses on this type of award winning in neurosurgery using both the h -index and the more recently created RCR.","PeriodicalId":43282,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Scientometric Research","volume":"70 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84706064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was conducted to explore the growth, and global trend of e-learning during the COVID-19 publications and to evaluate them by analyzing various features of the research outputs. The global publications on e-learning and COVID-19, indexed in Web of Science (WOS), were retrieved and analyzed by bibliometrix package of R software. There were 491 publications retrieved and then exported in a plain text format to the bibliometrix software. The results showed that the publication on the concept of e-learning and COVID-19 started in 2020, increased rapidly after the COVID-19 pandemic, and thereafter has received increasing attention by researchers, particularly in 2021. We found that the USA is the leading country with the highest number of publications followed by India, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Jorden and the UK. Also, the findings show that\"Education”, followed by\"Students”, \"Impact” and \"Model”, have the highest frequency among keywords in the literature, indicating that e-learning is a general topic in many fields. Conceptual structure map analysis classified the e-learning and COVID-19 publications into four main clusters. This study aimed to presents a comprehensive scenario of e-learning and COVID-19 publications after the prevalence of the pandemic. The results of this paper, can contribute to the existing knowledge, via showing e-learning and COVID-19 research volumes and trends.
