Since then, going to the doctor’s office has been mandatory and strictly necessary only in urgent or emergency situations. The objective of this work is to present, through a literature review, the main occurrences of the kind in the specific context of orthodontics and the COVID-19 pandemic, also discussing their clinical implications and the future perspectives of professionals and patients who are undergoing treatment. Its conclusion is that the reinforcement of biosafety practices and the development of alternative tools were of great importance in reducing the spread of the novel coronavirus.","PeriodicalId":432599,"journal":{"name":"Revista Naval de Odontologia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125883029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With a cross-sectional population-based design, a questionnaire was applied to residents, composed of socioeconomic data (social class, education, profession and income), demographic (sex, skin color, age and marital status) and behavioral (alcohol consumption, physical activity and morbidities), in addition to self-perception of health, housing and safety conditions. The data obtained were tabulated and expressed in frequencies. In total, 373 individuals were evaluated, with a mean age of 48.9 years. The most were women (73.2%) and white (63.5%), with incomplete middle school, and average family income of R$ 1,928.25. At the time of collection, 32.2% were unemployed. Regarding quality of life, 57.6% rated it as good. Among the health conditions and behavioral habits, the cases of hypertension stood out (42.0%) and cigarette smoke (70.0%). Regarding housing conditions, the most (n = 265; 76.0%) reported being “satisfied” and “very satisfied”, while regarding safety during the day and at night, the answers focused on the category “sometimes”, in both. We concluded that the profile of the sample analyzed is consistent with that of localities that have a certain degree of satisfaction, but that still lacks improvements in several aspects, such as those social, economic and infrastructure. Our study may be useful for directing actions of the organizations responsible for the most urgent demands of this community.","PeriodicalId":432599,"journal":{"name":"Revista Naval de Odontologia","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121581439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition to these, there is also the so-called paraneoplastic pemphigus, which occurs especially when there is a link to malignant neoplasms with emphasis on lymphomas. Only the vulgaris and vegetans types can affect the oral mucosa, with pemphigus vulgaris being the most prevalent one. The pathophysiological mechanism of the disease is characterized by the action of autoantibodies against the desmoglein proteins of the desmosomes found in the epithelial cells, thus triggering the formation of intraepithelial clefts and blisters. The management of patients with oral pemphigus vulgaris is quite challenging, especially in cases of older individuals and patients with comorbidities. This study discusses contemporary aspects of oral pemphigus vulgaris and elucidate the case of an old woman affected by the disease, highlighting all the propaedeutics used in her care and the treatment employed, with the use of systemic corticosteroids and constant follow-up of the patient’s condition, since pemphigus vulgaris is a disease that has no cure.","PeriodicalId":432599,"journal":{"name":"Revista Naval de Odontologia","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131458685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this reason, the search for effective irrigating solutions in endodontic therapy of deciduous teeth is frequent in research and it demonstrates the need to find substances with lower toxicity and greater efficiency. Thus, this study aims to analyze the different irrigating solutions and protocols in the endodontic treatment of deciduous teeth, in order to build a clinical approach. For this, a literature search was performed in the Databases PubMed/ MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, SCIELO, Portal de Periodicos CAPES and VHL using the combination of the terms “deciduous tooth,” “root canal irrigants,” “pulpectomy” and their derivatives, associated with each other by the Boolean operator “AND” and adapted for each database. The searches were carried out from July to August 2020. In total, 192 results were found. After a critical reading, eight studies were selected. The review included studies addressing the most common irrigating solutions: sodium hypochlorite, chlorhexidine digluconate, citric acid, and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) in endodontic therapy of deciduous teeth. EDTA and chlorhexidine digluconate have low toxicity and the 1% sodium hypochlorite combined with 6% citric acid have the most prosperous combination. The association of these two substances proved to be more efficient in cleaning root canals and removing the smear layer. However, more studies are necessary, mainly clinical ones, to confirm the best irrigating protocol for the endodontic treatment of deciduous teeth.","PeriodicalId":432599,"journal":{"name":"Revista Naval de Odontologia","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121066385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cross-linking agents has been proposed to reduce this degradation. The aim of this literature review was to analyze the action of different cross-linking agents on MMPs. The search was conducted in the PubMed database. The final sample consisted of 40 studies published between 2018 and 2010. Current studies have shown cross-linking agents (cabordiimide, glutaraldehyde, proanthocyanidin, riboflavin / UV-A and chitosan) present some advantages as nonspecificity to type of MMPs, collagen fiber’s toughness development and prevent bonding to the cleavage site of the enzyme. For this reason, it is necessary to know the action of the available cross-linking agents. It was observed that  Cabordiimide, riboflavin / UV-A, glutaraldehyde, proanthocyanidin and chitosan presented positive results in reducing degradation of the adhesive interface. Carbodiimide and riboflavin / UV-A are non-cytotoxic, unlike glutaraldehyde. Proanthocyanidin incorporated into the adhesive interferes with the polymerization of the adhesive monomers. Chitosan is able to reinforce collagen fibrils. Thus, it was possible to know more about the action of the available cross-linking agents.  However, there is a need for more research on these agents.","PeriodicalId":432599,"journal":{"name":"Revista Naval de Odontologia","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126340775","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, dental discrepancies such as conoid teeth could affect negatively one’s life and, as long as the patient desires, intervention should take place. Conoid teeth have significant alterations of basic anatomy, size and shape, which lead to a non-proportional smile. This case report regards to a reshape of a conoid lateral incisor, using direct composites, in order to help the orthodontic work. The chosen technique to provide this reshape was developed by the Styleitaliano® group, in order to simplify the restorative steps, using only three composite shades (one for dentin, one for enamel and one for optical effect). This case report emphasizes that different dentistry areas, such as Cosmetic Dentistry and Orthodontics must perform together in order to achieve good results, especially in cases that require shape changes.","PeriodicalId":432599,"journal":{"name":"Revista Naval de Odontologia","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131688580","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, a new subtype ofdysplasia that affects primarily middle-aged black women and promotesexpansion of the involved cortical bone has been reported as ExpansiveOsseous Dysplasia. The aim of this article is to report two cases ofFlorida Osseous Dysplasia with expressive expansion and perforationof the osseous cortex involved. The first case reports a 46-year-oldblack female patient whom was attended at the Naval Dental Centerrequiring indirect restoration in one tooth. Clinical examination showeda hard and increased volume at lingual portion of alveolar ridge in theregion of the lower incisors. In the panoramic radiography two mixeddensity images were observed with predominance of radiopaque areasin the apical region of the anterior inferior teeth and in the first lowerleft molar. The computed tomography showed the buccal cortex thinningand the expansion and perforation of the lingual cortex in the incisorregion. The second case presents a middle-aged brown skin patient whosought dental care to monitor a mixed lesion in the apical region of theanterior inferior teeth, lower premolars on both sides and in the thirdright lower third molar. In cone beam computed tomography, expansionand thinning of the vestibular cortex in the anterior inferior teeth wereobserved. Based on the current literature and the characteristics of bothlesions, the diagnostic hypothesis was Florida Osseous Dysplasia withexpansive aspect. The patients were advised on the importance of oralhygiene and the need for an annual follow-up of these lesions.","PeriodicalId":432599,"journal":{"name":"Revista Naval de Odontologia","volume":"13 9","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114047872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was to perform a retrospective analysis of the origin and prevalence of malignant lesions of the oral mucosa as well as the potentially malignant disorders on patients assisted at the Stomatology and Oral Pathology Clinic of the Naval Dental Center (Odontoclinica Central da Marinha-OCM), from May 2011 to April 2018. The method used was the analysis of the clinical digital charts during this period. Independent variables were gender, age, skin, tobacco use, alcohol use; while dependent variables were the existence of malignant or potentially malignant disorders. Forty-five malignant lesions and 177 potentially malignant disorders were recorded. Among them, 25 malignant lesions and 136 potentially malignant disorders were diagnosed at the OCM. This study showed the importance of active search for lesions of oral cavity and the detection of several lesions of oral cavity by the diverse areas in Dentistry.","PeriodicalId":432599,"journal":{"name":"Revista Naval de Odontologia","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127771691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Numerous skeletal and dental profiles associated with Class III maloclusions can result from mandibular prognathism, maxillary retrusion or association of both. After growth is ceased, treatment of these conditions is limited to dental compensation or orthodontic-surgical treatment. This article reports the case of a patient with Class III skeletal and dental malocclusion, treated with orthodontics and bimaxillary orthognathic surgery. This treatment plan was chosen due to the impossibility of orthodontic camouflage and to improve aesthetics and function. Data were collected through a review of medical records, study models, radiographs, cone beam computed tomography, and intra and extraoral photos. The treatment achieved the desired functional and aesthetic results, with adequate intercuspidation between the dental arches, increased volume of the face’s middle third region, and reduction of chin’s projection.","PeriodicalId":432599,"journal":{"name":"Revista Naval de Odontologia","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132392031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
