Therefore, the word green has very wide usage in language. Therefore, the word green has considerable wide usage in language. In the study, previous works containing expressions that use the word green were examined. The aim of this study was to contribute to the green terms by listing these terms and their definitions. We didn't limit the branches of science in the selection of studies in which the green terms were determined. Green terms have been compiled from many scientific disciplines such as Forest Engineering, Agriculture, Landscape Architecture, Politics, and Economy. Thus, it is aimed to contribute to the understanding of how widespread use of green terms nowadays. The common aspect of green terms is the creation of consciousness including environmental awareness, environmental problems, and their solutions. In this study, 133 green terms were determined from the green words in the examined articles, books, and virtual dictionaries and their definition was given. 103 green terms have been added to existing green words in literature. Finally, the use of the green word in Turkish has reached 518 with these added words. Renkler ve özelde yeşil rengi günlük yaşamdan siyasi alana, ekonomiden dine kadar çeşitli simgesel anlamlar kazanmıştır (Sevgi, 2020). Bunun belki de en önemli nedenlerinden biri de toplumun tarihiyle ilgili olabilir. Ufuk (2017)’nin aktardığı üzere; “dillerde 11 temel renk bulunduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Bu renkler sırasıyla beyaz, siyah, kırmızı, yeşil, sarı, mavi, kahverengi, mor, pembe, turuncu ve gri’dir. Ayrıca renk terimlerinin rastgele bir sıralamayla oluşmadığı bütün dillerin, tarihsel anlam gelişim süreci içinde 11 renk ismi temel sıralamasını takip ederek renk adlarını ürettiklerini keşfetmiştir.” (Ufuk, 2017:43-44) Yeşil sözcüğü bir renk olmasının dışında son derece zengin simgesel anlamı bulunmaktadır. Yeşilin simgesel değerleri olarak; yeşil rengi, bitkiyi, ormanı, baharı, sağlığı, alanı, siyaseti, zenginliği, işi, devleti ve cenneti simgelemektedir (Sevgi, 2020). Bu simgesel değerlerden siyasetin, işin ve devletin yeşillenmesi son dönemlerde belirgin olarak ortaya çıkmaktadır (Sevgi, 2020). Daha önceki yıllarda yeşil sözcüğü çevre hareketi kapsamında kullanılırken, günümüzde ise yeşil çevre hareketini de aşan siyasi bir harekete dönüşmüştür. Türkçede sözcüğün biçim, anlam ve kavram alanında yeşil renk adının geçtiği renk (105 adet), hayvan (50 adet) ve bitki adları (28 adet); kimya (4 adet), tıp (17 adet) ve doğa (3 adet) ile ilgili terimler; yeradları, kişi, su adları ve özel adlar (98 adet); deyim ve atasözü (15 adet); mecaz (15 adet) olmak üzere toplam 339 adet farklı kullanımı belirlenmiştir (Bayraktar, 2014). The forestry education formed by the French expert Tassy was carried out in French language. As a result, the concepts and terms used for technical forestry are also given in French. After the 1877 Ottoman-Russian war, French Foresters left our country and forestry education started to be carried out by the local experts. Migirdic Hekimyan and Hoca Ali Riza Efendi prepared the publications related to forestry in a short time and started to use the forestry terms in Ottoman Turkish. In this study, some forestry terms in Ottoman Turkish used in the early forestry practices and education in our country were presented. {"title":"ON THE MIXED NAMES AND MIXED PLACE NAMES","authors":"S. Köse","doi":"10.31451/EJATD.640000","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.31451/EJATD.640000","url":null,"abstract":"As is well known that there several elements play role on transformation of place names which bear precious information about history, culture, and the place where speakers of the given language live. Some of these elements are phonetic harmony (Izmir < Smyrna), meaning copying (Krasnoyarsk < Kizyaryar), renaming (Aydin) and wrong semantic transformation (Anadolu, Adilcevaz). One of these transformation types is to use different types of words from a contact/donor language with which is interacted through social, political, or geographic reasons. When any name belonging to the source language is adapted and combined with a new lexic or morphological element of the recipient language, a two-part mixed structure appears. Such structures are covered by the terms hybrid (Lat.), mixed name (Eng.), Mischname (Ger.) and гибридное имя (Rus.). Our study is about these mixed place names. Within the scope of our study is given theoretical knowledge about these structures which can be seen in various types of proper nouns, and several examples from Turkey have been examined. In the conclusion part, melez yeradi, as a new term, is suggested for such structures. The other results of the study are as follows: the fact that a place name consists of two parts each of which belong to different languages are not enough to consider it a hybrid. These parts must reflect different layers in the place name. Regarding with their Turkish names, important differences were recognized in scientific literature and traditional use. The purpose of the paper is to discuss the Turkish names of the evergreen oak species in the scientific literature and public, and to offer suggestions for the development of a common language for the use of Turkish names of these species. In this context, Turkish names “cakpelit” and “kaba pirnal/piynar” for Quercus ilex , “dikenli pirnal/piynar” or “kara pirnal/kara piynar” for Quercus coccifera and “boz pirnal” for Quercus aucheri should also be used as the Turkish names for these oak species. Because of this variance, the concept of space has been altered over time and appears before us in different forms. In this study, we examine the word “mâbeyn,” meaning “between two entities,” as an architectural term and explore how it has come under the influence of economic, political, social and cultural factors to ultimately contribute to the varieties of meanings given to the changes in style in the use of space. The diverse use of the mâbeyn offers various data that can be traced to Ottoman homes, pavilions, mansions and palaces, especially to the structure of three significant royal palaces. Our study starts from the use of the mâbeyn as a residential space and then evaluates the process of its transformation and its place in the structure of the palace, assessing this on the basis of various types of construction, in an effort to discover how the term has acquired so many layers of meaning, including significations that have not found their way into dictionaries.
