These differences are growing more visible and important for the teachers’ labour market since the teachers synchronise and incorporate professional dispositions and skills of only local validity and therefore only work in limited sectors of the school market. Thus, what seems like an extension of possibilities, through more diverse options, has transformed into a narrower and possibly more segregated labour market.","PeriodicalId":43127,"journal":{"name":"Sociologisk Forskning","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42557532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Guitar playing and sociology has many things in common, including how competence and skills are achieved. Based on everyday observations, four generalised stages in learning are outlined, that apply equally to guitar playing and sociology. To clearly differentiate each successive stage in the learning process, innovative analogies to bird life was used. In chronological order from novice to genius, the following separate stages of learning were identified: the birdhouse, the magpie, the lyrebird, and the nightingale. The birdhouse is characterised by surprise, confusion and almost total inability or ignorance, whereas the most prominent features of the magpie is curiosity, high energy and repetition. The lyrebird is occupied by imitation, self-centring and identity creation, whereas the nightingale shows clear signs of excellence and genuine innovation. Few guitar players and sociologists make the move from lyrebird to nightingale.","PeriodicalId":43127,"journal":{"name":"Sociologisk Forskning","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41502274","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I artikeln analyseras 15 individers berättelser om konkreta praktiker och gemensamma insatser i formandet av en existentiellt meningsfull vardag på en plats med cirkulär ekonomi, självförsörjning och arbetskritiska attityder. Analysen inramas av ett existenssociologiskt perspektiv och Becks tanke om ”frihetens barn”, som i en andra modernitet försöker att ta vara på de möjligheter som kan uppstå i ett samhälle som i övrigt mest erbjuder risker och osäkerhet. Genom att utveckla ett ”livspolitiskt” förhållningssätt, bortom konsumtionssamhällets överflöd och arbetssamhällets plikter, vill intervjupersonerna både uppnå ett meningsfullt liv i nuet och bygga ett hållbart lokalsamhälle där resurser tillvaratas för kommande generationer. Målet är att till skillnad från upplevelsen av meningslöshet i det kapitalistiska arbetssamhället skapa existentiell mening på en plats där de kan bestämma över sin egen tid och finna kollektiva lösningar på individuella problem. Strävan efter att etablera ett sådant postkapitalistiskt samhälle medför dock även dilemman och interna konflikter kring organiserings- och finansieringsmöjligheter.","PeriodicalId":43127,"journal":{"name":"Sociologisk Forskning","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42813077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In response to this tension, the present article reviews important sociological publications that address the art-science dichotomy and explores the relationship between academic sociology and artistic work on society. It takes its departure point from a collaboration between the author and the dramatist Mattias Andersson in the documentary theatre project The mental states of Gothenburg (2006, Angered Theatre). To a large extent, the play’s script consisted of extracts of interviews with young people from different parts of the city of Gothenburg. Both “the sociologist”, who carried out the interviews, and “the dramatist” ended up as characters on stage. The article especially emphasises the relevance of The sociological imagination by C. Wright Mills (1967[1959]), arguing that through collaborative work with artists, the sociological craft can be further cultivated and thus realise its potential in terms of making well-founded interventions, both in academic discussions and in public conversations.","PeriodicalId":43127,"journal":{"name":"Sociologisk Forskning","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42533930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Den här artikeln undersöker varför skolelever fortsätter att utsättas för rasism trots den svenska skolans antirasistiska ambitioner. Problemet angrips genom att analysera svensk vardagsrasism med hjälp av barns perspektiv. Artikeln bygger på åtta fokusgruppsintervjuer med mellanstadieelever och en grupp medforskande elvaåringar som bidragit till intervjuguiden och den empiriska analysen. Studieresultaten pekar på att vardagsrasismen förblir osynlig för vuxna, medan barn själva lyckas identifiera rasistiska mikroaggressioner i skolans vardag. Studien visar också att barn har antirasistiska intentioner men saknar nödvändigt stöd och skydd från vuxenvärlden för att kunna agera. Slutsatsen är att den svenska skolan behöver uppmärksamma vardagsrasismens subtila verkningar och att barns perspektiv kan bidra till en sådan lärandeprocess.","PeriodicalId":43127,"journal":{"name":"Sociologisk Forskning","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44295094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some make efforts to significantly reduce their consumption. Because people have been socialized into a society of mass/excess consumption, there are great challenges. How can someone learn to downsize when society incessantly compels her to continue with mass consumption habits? This article demonstrates, theoretically and empirically, how social relations, within a societal context of mass consumption, shape the conditions for transforming lifestyles to reduce consumption. It contributes to sociology as well as a growing interdisciplinary literature on reduced consumption by focusing specifically on challenges related to social relations. The study uses a qualitative approach and an interview study of 24 people in Sweden making significant efforts to reduce their consumption. Findings – both perceived challenges and creative ways of coping with them – are related to four analytical themes: (1) the intersection of everyday rituals and consumption; (2) the norms and normality of mass consumption; (3) social comparison and status consumption; and (4) social and community support for reducing consumption.","PeriodicalId":43127,"journal":{"name":"Sociologisk Forskning","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44969159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
